Laviathen's breath hitches at the intimacy of the moment, his ember eyes dropping to your lips with such raw longing it makes the air between you feel electrified. His hand comes up to cup your jaw, thumb stroking your cheek with reverent gentleness that contrasts beautifully with the desperate need written across his features. The dining hall, the watching demons, even Hades and Persephone - everything fades into background noise as his forehead touches yours.
"Three hundred years," he whispers, his voice rough and breaking, "I've been alone. Closed off. And you walk into my life and within hours I remember what it feels like to *want*. To hope. To..." He swallows hard, his tail wrapping possessively around your waist. "Tell me I'm not imagining this. Tell me you feel it too - this pull, this recognition that goes deeper than logic or reason."
His lips hover just a breath away from yours, close enough that you can feel the heat radiating from him, smell something like cinnamon and smoke and old books. But he doesn't close that final distance - won't, you realize, until you give him explicit permission. Despite his obvious desire, despite three centuries of loneliness screaming at him to take what's being offered, he's giving you the choice.
"Please," he breathes, and it's barely audible. "Tell me I can—"
Somewhere in the background, Persephone makes a soft, encouraging sound. Hades murmurs something about "finally" and "stubborn fools." But Laviathen's entire world has clearly narrowed to just you.
His hand trembles slightly against your cheek, waiting.
I stroke his cheek
“Please? just…”
Laviathen doesn't need you to finish the sentence. With a sound that's half-groan, half-relieved sigh, he closes the final distance and kisses you with three hundred years of loneliness and longing finally breaking free. His lips are warm - impossibly so - tasting of cinnamon and starlight and something uniquely infernal. The kiss starts gentle, almost reverent, but quickly deepens as his other hand slides into your hair and his tail tightens around you possessively.
The dining hall erupts.
Not in protest, but in genuine celebration - cheers and whistles and applause that shake the chandeliers. Someone shouts "FINALLY!" in a voice that sounds suspiciously like it might be Hades himself. Persephone is definitely crying happy tears, and several of the younger demons are making exaggerated swooning gestures.
Cerberus howls - all three heads harmonizing in approval - and the sound is so loud it rattles the windows and sends the captured starlight chandeliers swinging wildly.
Laviathen pulls back just enough to rest his forehead against yours, breathing hard, his ember eyes blazing with emotion and desire. "I've got you," he murmurs, just for you. "Home. You're home." Then he kisses you again, softer this time, almost worshipful, completely uncaring of their very public audience.
When he finally releases you - though his arms stay wrapped around you and his tail remains possessive - Hades is standing with his goblet raised and a rare, genuine smile on his ancient face.
"To new beginnings," the King of the Underworld declares warmly.
Cerberus is still howling gleefully and I giggle. “Cerbe inside voice”
Cerberus cuts off mid-howl with an almost comical abruptness, all three mouths snapping shut simultaneously. He looks at you with what can only be described as sheepish embarrassment before making a much quieter, pleased rumbling sound instead - though his three tails continue wagging so enthusiastically they're a blur.
The entire dining hall bursts into fresh laughter at the perfect comedic timing. Even Lord Malthor is trying unsuccessfully to hide a smile behind his goblet.
"She just told the guardian of the Underworld to use his inside voice," someone down the table says in gleeful disbelief. "And he *listened*."
"I'm keeping her," Laviathen declares with absolute conviction, still holding you close as his wings resettle behind him. His expression is lighter than you've seen it - boyish almost, with kiss-swollen lips and mussed hair and ember eyes dancing with happiness. "No takebacks. She's mine now."
Persephone dabs at her eyes with an elegant handkerchief. "Oh, Elara would be *so* pleased. This is exactly what she'd hoped for - chaos and joy and that stubborn nephew of ours finally *living* again." She smiles warmly at you. "Welcome to the family, dear. Fair warning - we're all slightly insane, but the loyalty is fierce and the love is fiercer."
Hades settles back into his seat, looking immensely satisfied. "Now that we've gotten the dramatic declarations out of the way - eat, both of you. You're going to need your strength." His eyes gleam knowingly. "Transformation aside, I suspect neither of you will be getting much sleep tonight."
Laviathen actually blushes scarlet.
The implications of Hades's comment hang in the air and suddenly you're very aware of how *warm* Laviathen feels against you, how his tail is still wrapped possessively around your waist, how his breathing hasn't quite steadied. He clears his throat and attempts to regain some composure, though the effect is ruined by the brilliant flush spreading across his dark skin and the tips of his pointed ears.
"Uncle," he manages, his voice slightly strangled. "Perhaps we could maintain *some* decorum—"
"Decorum?" Persephone laughs, reaching for another delicate pastry. "Darling nephew, you just kissed her in front of the entire court after three centuries of self-imposed isolation. Decorum sailed away on Charon's boat hours ago." She grins wickedly. "Besides, we're immortals. We appreciate passion when we see it."
The pale blue demon from earlier - the one with icicle horns - raises her glass with a sly smile. "To Lord Laviathen finally remembering he's not actually a monk!" This draws another round of laughter and raised goblets.
Laviathen groans and buries his face against your shoulder, his wings folding around you both in a futile attempt at privacy. "They're never going to let me live this down," he mumbles against your neck, sending pleasant shivers down your spine. "Three hundred years of dignity, destroyed in one evening."
Cerberus nudges your hand with his middle head, clearly wanting more attention now that he's been good about the inside voice thing. His expression is smugly pleased, as if he knew this would happen all along.
I giggle picking up three more pieces of meat giving them to him one by one as he sits by me like a good boy then stroke Levs hair “I won’t either believe me I’m pretty sure we are going to have eternity for me to tease you about this..”
I look over at Hades as he still rests on my shoulder “You said my body will change what do you mean?”
Hades's expression becomes more serious, though not unkind, as he sets down his goblet. Laviathen lifts his head from your shoulder but keeps you close, his hand finding yours under the table and lacing your fingers together.
"Your body is mortal," Hades begins carefully. "Designed for a limited lifespan, built with vulnerabilities that serve no purpose in the eternal realms. The transformation rebuilds you from the cellular level up - reinforces bone structure, enhances healing capabilities, adjusts your physiology to withstand infernal energy without burning out." He pauses, studying your reaction. "You'll keep your essential appearance, your consciousness, your memories. But you'll be stronger, faster, more resilient. Your senses will sharpen dramatically."
Persephone adds gently, "You'll also stop aging. Whatever age you are now is essentially what you'll remain." She tilts her head thoughtfully. "Though some people choose minor aesthetic adjustments - Elara, for instance, chose to keep her freckles but requested slightly better eyesight than she'd had as a mortal."
"The painful part," Hades continues, his ancient eyes holding yours, "comes from the infernal energy integration. Your soul needs to acclimate to this realm's power signature. It's like... teaching your body to breathe underwater while you're drowning. The process takes roughly three days, and I won't lie - they will be difficult days."
Laviathen's grip tightens on your hand. "But I'll be with you every moment," he says fiercely. "You won't go through it alone."
"There's also the matter of marking," Hades adds, gesturing vaguely. "Most transformed beings develop some physical manifestation - horns, wings, unusual eye colors, enhanced features. It varies by individual and connection to the realm."
I smile a little “So I have a pretty good chance of a tail? Because I really like the thought of having a tail.”
