Everything everywhere all at once

1132 Words
Laviathen goes completely rigid, his entire body freezing as if turned to stone. The grip on your shoulders tightens painfully for a moment before he seems to realize and forces himself to loosen it. His breathing has become ragged, and when he speaks, his voice is barely a whisper - raw and broken. "That was the last thing she said to me," he chokes out, his ember eyes blazing so intensely they're almost white-hot. "Before she died. Before the poison took her. She was lying in my arms, barely breathing, and I asked her if she regretted it - coming here, loving a demon, giving up her mortal life for this realm." He pulls you against him with desperate force, burying his face in your neck. His entire massive frame is trembling. "And she smiled - gods, she actually smiled - and said 'everything everywhere all at once can be more than you ever imagined.' I thought she was delirious, that the poison was making her speak nonsense. But she squeezed my hand and told me it meant that loving me, being here, all of it was worth more than anything she'd left behind." His voice breaks completely. "How could you dream of someone you never met? How could you know words that were spoken in private, in the dark, three centuries before you were born?" He pulls back just enough to look at your face, tears streaming down his cheeks. "Unless... unless souls don't forget. Unless love marks us so deeply that it echoes across lifetimes." I stare up at him “Leviathen I don’t think I’m Elara I think I’m… A decent of soul and peace” The memory of those words flooding from Grandma of my Dream Laviathen pulls back sharply, his eyes widening with something between shock and dawning comprehension. His hands slide from your shoulders to cup your face, and he's staring at you like he's seeing you - truly seeing you - for the first time. The garden seems to hold its breath around you both, the glowing flowers pulsing in rhythm with some unspoken truth. "A descendant of soul and peace," he repeats slowly, his voice filled with wonder and something that sounds like reverence. "That's... that's not just poetic language, is it?" His thumbs brush across your cheekbones as pieces click into place behind those ember eyes. "Elara used to say she felt like she was made of two things - the soul that drove her forward and the peace she found here with me. She called it her duality." He shifts closer, his forehead nearly touching yours. "If you're descended from her - if somehow a part of her soul, her essence, carried forward through lineage or reincarnation or whatever force governs such things..." His breath hitches. "Then you're not her returned. You're something more. You're what came after. What she became." His tail wraps around you protectively as understanding floods his features. "The dreams weren't memories. They were inheritance. Soul memory passed down through whatever cosmic thread connects you to her." He laughs suddenly, the sound half-hysterical. "And I pulled you here. Across realms, across that connection, because some part of the universe recognized what you carried inside you." He pulls you tight against his chest. "You're not her echo, Tamra. You're her legacy." I start laughing loudly nestling cackling finally I calm myself reaching up stroking his cheek it’s soft leathery and warm “You’re sort of cute when you’re excited… But I am still hungry a little so can we pause the cosmic destiny until I finish eating?” Laviathen's entire face flushes a deeper shade of crimson at your touch and words, his ember eyes widening with surprise. For a moment, the ancient Prince of Wrath looks utterly flustered - his tail goes rigid, his mouth opens and closes without sound, and he seems completely unprepared for the casual intimacy of your gesture combined with calling him *cute*. "I... cute?" he finally manages, his voice cracking slightly on the word. "I'm a seven-foot demon prince with claws and a tail. 'Cute' is not typically in my repertoire of descriptions." But despite his protests, he's leaning into your touch, his eyes half-closing like a cat being scratched in just the right spot. "Though I suppose if you're descended from Elara, finding demons attractive is apparently genetic." He catches your hand in his, pressing it more firmly against his cheek for just a moment before reluctantly pulling away. "Right. Food. Basic human needs. I keep forgetting about those." He tugs you back toward the kitchen door, his movements less graceful than usual - like your words have knocked him off-balance in the best possible way. "We can absolutely pause the cosmic destiny talk. Though I'm filing away 'sort of cute' for later mockery once you're properly fed." As you walk back through the garden, he glances sideways at you, something soft in his expression. "For what it's worth... you're fairly devastating yourself when you laugh like that. Just so you know." “What like a gremlin with a cause?” I smile playfully after I say it “That’s what she called me… she called me the adorable gremlin with a cause my height never helped defy that.” Laviathen stops dead in his tracks, his hand tightening around yours as he processes your words. A sound escapes him - something between a laugh and a groan - and he tilts his head back toward the swirling sky above, as if seeking divine intervention. "Of course she did," he says, his voice thick with emotion and amusement. "Elara was barely five feet tall. Absolutely tiny. And she *hated* when I pointed it out, so naturally I did it constantly." He looks back down at you, his ember eyes dancing with mirth and something achingly tender. "She used to climb on furniture to try to be eye-level with me during arguments. Said it was a tactical disadvantage to yell up at someone." He starts walking again, pulling you along but slower this time, savoring the moment. "And 'gremlin with a cause' is disturbingly accurate for her too. Once she got an idea in her head, there was no stopping her. Didn't matter if it was mechanically impossible or defied infernal law - she'd figure it out through sheer stubborn determination." His tail brushes against your leg affectionately. "Which, from what I've observed so far, seems to run in the bloodline." As you reach the kitchen door, he pauses and looks down at you with a expression that's equal parts exasperated and fond. "You realize this means I'm going to spend the entire time you're eating trying not to see her in every gesture you make, right? It's going to be extremely distracting."
