Valentine's Day was supposed to be special. Amanda had been looking forward to it, hoping it would help mend the rift between her and David. Despite the awkward silence that had hung between them since their last argument, David’s invitation for a romantic evening gave her a flicker of hope. David picked her up, and they headed to a rooftop restaurant, the city lights shimmering below them. The atmosphere was perfect—intimate and elegant. For a while, as they talked and laughed over dinner, it felt like old times. After dinner, David suggested they go to a hotel room he had booked for the night. The room was beautifully decorated with rose petals and soft candlelight, creating an ambience of romance. Amanda felt a mix of excitement and nervousness as David poured them both a glass of champagne. David pulled Amanda close, his eyes shining with affection. "I wanted tonight to be perfect for us," he murmured, brushing a strand of hair from her face. Amanda smiled, feeling the tension between them ease. "It already is." He started into her eyes and then her lips, running his tongue over his plump lips and almost on impulse, he asked, " Can I kiss you, Mandy?" to which Amanda shyly nodded giving him the green light. But as the night progressed, David's intentions became clearer. He started kissing her more insistently, his hands wandering in a way that made Amanda’s initial comfort turn to discomfort. When he suggested they move to the bed, her heart raced with anxiety. "David, I think this is moving too fast," she said, gently pushing him away. David's face tightened with frustration. "We've been talking for a while now, Amanda. I thought you wanted this, too." "I do, but not like this," Amanda replied, her voice trembling. "I need more time." David's persistence turned to desperation. "Why are you pulling away? Don't you trust me?" Amanda felt cornered, the romantic evening unravelling into a nightmare. She managed to push him away more firmly this time, grabbing her things. "I can't do this, David. I'm sorry." She left the hotel room in tears, the sound of David calling her name echoing in her ears. The Uber ride home was a blur of emotions—anger, hurt, and confusion. Was that really all he wanted her for? In the days following the disastrous Valentine's evening, Nina avoided David's calls and messages. She threw herself into her work and tried to find solace in the company of her friends. One evening, while she was out with her friends at a local café, she saw Daniel. He noticed her and walked over, his usual confident demeanour softened by concern. "Hey, Amanda. Mind if I join you?" Amanda forced a smile and nodded. Her friends, sensing the need for privacy, excused themselves to give them some space. Daniel sat down, his gaze steady on hers. "You look like you could use someone to talk to." Amanda sighed, pushing her drink away. "Yeah, it's been a rough few days." Daniel leaned in, his voice gentle. "Want to tell me about it?" Amanda hesitated but found herself confiding in him. She told him about Valentine's evening, about how pressured and cornered she had felt. Daniel listened, his expression darkening with anger. "David was out of line," Daniel said firmly. "You deserve better than that." Their conversation lingered, and as the night grew late, the atmosphere between them shifted. Daniel's comforting presence felt like a balm to Amanda's wounded heart. They talked about everything—music, life, and their complicated relationships. At some point, Daniel moved closer, his hand brushing against Amanda's. She looked up, met his gaze, and saw something there that made her heart race. How had she been so silly? Before she could process what was happening, Daniel leaned in and kissed her. The kiss was intense, a mix of forbidden desire and pent-up emotions. For a moment, Amanda kissed him back, lost in the sensation. But then reality crashed down, and she pulled away, breathless. "Daniel, we can't," she whispered, shaking her head. "It's not right." Daniel looked pained but nodded. "I know. I'm sorry. It's just... hard to ignore how I feel." Amanda stood, needing to put distance between them. "We need to not do this again. For everyone's sake." Daniel sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "You're right. But it's not easy." Despite the tension, Amanda tried to move on. She avoided both David and Daniel, focusing on her studies and spending more time with her friends. She needed space to clear her mind and heal from the emotional turmoil. A few months passed, and life started to feel more stable. Amanda had thrown herself into her work, slowly finding her balance again. One evening, as she was unwinding at home, her phone rang. It was Daniel. "Hey Amanda. Can you come over? There's something David and I want to discuss with you." Amanda's heart raced as she agreed, unsure of what to expect. When she arrived at the twins' apartment, Daniel greeted her warmly, but David was noticeably distant, avoiding her eyes. They sat down, and Daniel started speaking. "We’ve been thinking a lot about our future and realized we need someone to help manage our career. You have a great sense of organization and a good ear for music. We think you’d be perfect for the job. What do you say?" Amanda was taken aback, a mix of surprise and excitement washing over her. She glanced at David, who still avoided her gaze, then back at Daniel. "I’d love to help you guys. Thank you for trusting me with this." Daniel's face lit up. "Great! We know you can help us reach the next level." As they discussed the details, Amanda noticed David’s silence. His distant demeanour was a stark contrast to Daniel’s enthusiasm, and it left her feeling uneasy. She hoped that working together might help bridge the gap that had formed between them.
