Breakout

They arrived at Steampeak`s gates, it`s defenses were just walls made out of rock and one wooden gate that was spiked at the top.      “Well this is pretty anti-climactic,” said Hugo who was being disappointed after all those stories he heard, but it wouldn`t last for long. The gates weren`t going to open any time soon, even more, they would not open for any outsiders other than the governor's orders but Liza had away, there was a culprit in the whole mechanism of how the gates worked that she could exploit. She simply knocked on the gate searching for where the sound could change, she knocked a couple of times on different places until the sound changed and sounded hollow, Liza gathered force and struck the same spot with the handles of her daggers. The mechanism inside clanked and clicked as the cogs inside moved the whole mechanism. She opened the gates and it seemed as she opened a window into a new world. Their eyes were honored by the great sight in front of them. The glory of the rocky brown canyon that had wooden bridges with ropes connecting the two ends of the canyon, the wooden houses that were built into the canyon walls, the zeppelins that flew between the empty space of the walls, the giant wooden structure that was held in the middle of the empty space by ropes, the river at the bottom that flowed straight into the sea. And behind all of that the clear blue skies and the clear blue sea refracting the rays from the white sun.       “Woah…” Hugo was left speechless now.      “Get him some help, I`ll be back,” said Liza.      “Where are you going?” asked Francis.      “Have to sort out some private things,” said Liza as she moved down the road that led to a bridge, and then that bridge connected with other bridges like a nervous system.      The group walked by on the middle wooden promenade of the city, there were merchants chanting and inviting customers, blacksmiths working with the hammer and anvil and people meddling in the ways of science, overall it was a productive and busy society, so busy they could never bother themselves with the whole prophecy and The Watchers.      “Excuse me, our friend needs help,” Hugo walked toward a random person as the man looked at Franco`s wound and showed them the direction to the infirmary.      “What happened?” asked the nurse. “Did he spray himself with a poisonous element or acid?” she left them confused and had no idea what to say. “Or perhaps he hurt himself with the hammer?”      “Umm… a wooden beam fell on his head,” said Francis.      “What?” Hugo looked at him as Francis had no idea what to say and just blurted out the words.      “Right… the worst is brain damage, but you said he can talk so I would say concussion. Nothing like a bit of painkiller and days rest wouldn`t fix,” said the nurse.      “Excuse me, what are painkillers?” asked Francis as Cristina stomped on his foot as hard as she could and looked at him angrily to stop asking questions so that they don`t expose themselves.      “Stay with him, don`t leave his sight,” said Aelizia. “I need to find a library, we need to find out how to destroy the sigil.      “Be careful,” warned Hugo as Aelizia nodded at him and left the infirmary.            “Excuse me, sir,” a small boy walked up to an armored guard that held a spear. “That lady over there needs help,” the boy pointed toward a hooded figure that laid in the sand, the guard walked up to her and stopped, he was careful. He pointed the spear toward her and slowly moved forward.      “Miss are you okay?” he asked as he touched her by the shoulder and shook her but still no response, he took the spear and poked her in the shoulder but the lady grabbed the spear and yanked it off from the guard as she struck him in the face with the other end knocking the guard out.      “Nice job kid,” the lady threw him a pouch with golden coins. “Now go on, and you`ve never seen what happened here,” the boy just nodded and ran away as Liza removed the cape and revealed her face to the guard who was waking up. She covered his mouth with the palm. “Don`t scream,” she warned him. “Do you remember me?” the guard nodded. “Now then… If you want to live you`ll answer me some questions, where is my sister?” the guard pointed toward the building he was guarding. “I know she is in the asylum, what room?” the guard mumbled. “I am going to remove my hand if you so much as scream I will pierce your throat with this,” she grabbed the spear with her other hand.      “Room 205A,” said the guard.      “Good, things are easy when you cooperate,” she smiled as she knocked him out again and tied him up just as an insurance in case he was lying. The asylum was located outside of Steampeak, it was a small castle on its own, made with wooden not so tall walls and surrounded by nothing much but a desert, the ground was barren and dried out and the little trees that were there, were also on the brink of death all dried out and the leaves long are gone.      Liza tied up the guard in the middle of the desert and put a cloth in his mouth so he wouldn`t scream. She chipped away a chunk of rock with her daggers and tied a rope around it. She moved to the least guarded part of the wooden walls as she swung the rope and threw it over the walls, the rock that was tied to the rope jammed itself between the space of the wooden wall. She pulled on the rope to make sure it`s secure and slowly climbed the wall. Upon reaching the top she peeked for any guards but there were not that many, besides the two that stood at the very entrance into the building. She tore a piece of her clothing and wrapped it around her palm as she grabbed the dagger by its pointy end and smashed on the rock that broke in two pieces. She unwrapped the cloth and placed it on the wooden walkway, she struck the pieces together creating a spark that set the cloth ablaze, she broke the spear in half and picked up the cloth by the other end that was not burning and wrapped it on the end of the stick creating a torch that she threw in the hay. She waited a couple of seconds until everybody noticed the fire. The panic got everyone on their feet, the fire quickly spread to other parts of the makeshift castle considering everything was wood, the guards and the doctors that worked there were running around with buckets of water trying to put out the fire. Liza slipped by unnoticed and walked up to room 205A she stopped and looked through the metal bars. Her smaller sister was there starring at the walls or rather what she engraved on them: ‘The Voyagers are coming.’ ‘We must warn everybody.’ ‘The Watchers are watching.’      “Lora…” said Liza quietly at her sister who was facing her with her back, she turned at her and starred without saying a word. “Lora,” repeated Liza with tears in her eyes.      “Sister…” she said weakly.      “Lora! Don`t worry I am getting you out of here,” she broke the lock with the spear and opened the door. “Come on!” Liza grabbed her sister and pulled her out of the cell as they ran out of the asylum. They found themselves up on the wall walkway, Liza realized that she broke the rock and could not use the rope to get themselves down.      “Stop them!” a guard noticed both of them as they were escaping.      “We`ve got to jump,” Liza looked at her sister, Lora just nodded grabbing Liza`s hand they jumped together.
