Chapter 1
Chapter 1
She watched him from afar, not that she was afraid to be around him it was more the fact that he was an ass to her. Being on the same team that he lead wasn’t easy especially since it meant that she had to follow his orders no matter what. Angelic wasn’t an i***t, she was a Sterling. The last one at that, her father and her mother died years ago. She was the one who killed them although it was an accident during a training. They were forcing her to use her powers more and more at a young age. Angelic was only 28 now but its taken her a long time to get to this point. That and it didn’t help that David looked at her like she was some kind of alien her powers were different then the other para scientists. She was able to control elements and creatures like puppets. She continued to load the stuff into the vehicle all the while ignoring David screaming about something. Suddenly her head shot up as a bag came flying at her head, she turned her head to see a smirking Sam looking at her.
“Sorry Angel” his remark sounded sarcastic but she kept accommodating the bags properly.
Angelic closed the door and pushed past Sam, she knew all of them disliked her for any given reason. Mostly because it would cause them to become obsolete within the group. Angelic could sense the changes made by anyone and she could become extremely stealthy thanks to the hell her parents put her through. Not much has been released about exactly what happen all those years ago thanks to the General keeping things under wraps. That was at-least until David wouldn’t accept her into the team without knowing why the General was tight lipped about her past. Yet Angelic knew David wasn’t just being nasty with her for no reason, he wanted her to blow to create a scene so that the General had no choice to put her in solitary away from anyone. Even the other para scientists were afraid of her and honestly she was afraid of herself at times too. There was a darkness inside of her that her parents were trying to nurture through the training she endured with them. Could she even call it training at this point in her life. The creatures she was locked into rooms with were at times 3 times stronger then her and she was beaten countless times because of it. Enduring it night after night until she could kill the damn thing. At those times she herself could feel a darkness emerge from deep inside of her and unleash itself from what ever it was that contained it. Then it was at that point her parents would sedate her and experiment on her. She would awaken at times during the procedures and scream in agony.
She climbed into the cab of the truck and waited for the others. Not really caring that they were taking their sweet time to load so that they could depart. She placed her headphones in and began to listening to music to distract from the sudden feeling of doom. She wanted to alert David but then that would be to good for him and the rest of the team. The last one to board was David and he turned on the truck, Lisa was on the passenger side with the file of the location and the artifact they would be acquiring. Angelic didn’t even bother asking to look at it, the General ensured that she received her own copy. He understood that the rest of the team wasn’t to keen on befriending her but he needed her amongst them. So he supplied her with the necessary tools and information to minimize the stress between her and the rest of the team. Interestingly enough he wanted her to be the main agent on this mission, once she saw the file she understood. This wasn’t going to be a normal extraction this location was dangerous and she was unfortunately needed.
She closed her eyes before she opened her backpack. She pulled out the file once more and sighed softly. They were going to a ruin where many people have been left to be sacrificed to whatever creature was there. The creature in question was vile and The General knew that Angelic had faced it before even if she had only been 16 at the time. She knew the weaknesses of the creature and because David really didn’t want to acknowledge her other then to yell about how useless she was, The General bypassed David in making her the main part. Only difference her file held more info then Davids. Based on the killings and the amount of destruction at the ruins she could gauge that this creature wasn’t a newborn but possibly one of the older of the creatures. She knew if she wasn’t careful her entire team could perish, but she also knew that The General was testing her to see how much of her isolation computed to how she responded. The simulations could only account but for so much of her personality. Understandably they needed a baseline. She closed the file and pulled off her headphones too listen to the useless rattle of David. She looked out the window not really caring anymore about what he wanted to do in this mission to keep them safe. She had her own mission and that was to kill that thing before it killed them.
Angelic needed to see what the campsite would look like so she could calculate how she would be able to sneak away to the ruins. Then she needed to know how far of a radius she would have to place the silencing spell to keep the noise down. Her head snapped up at her name from his mouth.
“Tell me exactly what use do I have for you Angelic?” He watched her with the rear view mirror as she rolled her eyes.
She let her powers flow and begin sensing the area as they travelled undeniably she made sure to make the truck windows rattle with force to give him her answer. She continued her scan with more freedom as she wasn’t held by the standards of the compound anymore. She kept her eyes on the window never glancing at David while she could feel his glare. Ironically she wanted to know why he hated the para-scientist himself. David stood at an impressive 6’3”, a well built 275lb muscular body his hair was always neat and clean he sported no facial hair unless he was on a mission. She did ask The General about David and he said he would get her the info in time. She was starting to wonder if he wanted her to find out herself instead. Angelic wasn’t one to socialize with anyone again her years of isolation and then the intense training when she was found didn’t help. She knew no one wanted to be her friend, but then again she didn’t know how to make friendships either. Her only source of communication was just what she saw from afar. Angelic's barrier ran into an intense wall of something pushing back, her powers felt as if they ran into a void of emptiness. She looked up to try to catch Davids attention knowing they were going to run into some serious trouble. She began to pull her powers back and began to encase the truck instead. Whatever she just hit was coming at them and quickly. She began to work a spell for a shield to wrap them all in as she began to shake slightly from her adrenaline spiking. She could see the sky becoming darker as she heard David curse.
“Angelic you crazy witch, what are you doing?” He screamed as he stopped the truck on the road.
He turned to look at her before climbing out of the truck opening her door as well. He pulled her out as well and began to point towards the sky. Angelic continued to look around as if waiting for the attack blocking out David so she could continue to search. The truck door closing and locking caught her attention as she saw David lock her out with a smile on his face yelling for her to stop messing with the weather. She began to pull at the handle on the door it not budging. Her sudden sense of dread got worse as she continued to encase the truck desperately trying to get back in.
“David” she yelled as she continued to pull.
The sense of cold and quiet came over her as she watched her teammates grab their weapons. The look on their faces meant that whatever it was that she had felt made it’s physical presence known to them. She took a deep breathe before calming her nerves as best as she could and turned around. The creature was at minimal 8ft tall more then a good 3tons and it looked like it was a walking mountain of corpses. The awful smell it emitted was even worse then its appearance. She slammed the shield around the truck as she stepped away from it closing the gap that was still there waiting for her. Her hand engulfed in flames as she watched the creature sizing her. She knew that she looked fragile and an easy target. She also knew this creature could feel the massive waves of energy rolling off of her. She wasted no time as she threw up a cage around the creature encasing it. She heard the team attempting to get out of the truck, their screams of anger filling her senses momentarily before she began to shrink the cage on the creature. The thing let out a piercing scream as she watched the cage get smaller. The creature fighting against the bars as she used her powers to begin to dismember the thing. She could feel the darkness flowing through her as it took joy. The pain the emotions running high from her teammates. Angelic no longer cared what was happening, her powers were doing what it hadn’t been allowed to do for a while. She surged her powers once more as the creature exploded into a cloud of guts, blood, and limbs. David finally managed to get his door open as he marched to her and spun her around to face him.
David looked at the girl in his hand. Her expression was blank as if she felt nothing, even worse was that the color of her eyes had changed to black. He had certainly been guilty of watching her get worked up as she was tormented by the rest of the team. He was even guilty of joining in but at the expense of knowing he was putting the potential of being friends with her at stake. David grabbed her wrist and began to pull her towards the truck. He screamed in immense pain as he looked back to her and watched as her flaming hand was wrapping itself around his wrist to pry his fingers off of her. He groaned as he could feel the skin begin to blister before placing his fist into her face effectively knocking her out cold. He caught her with great difficulty as the rest of the team ran to him to grab her and tend to his wounds.
Angelic groaned as she grabbed her head. She winced as she felt the giant knot on her head, she could barely remember anything as she groaned again. What the hell happened she wondered? The last time she felt like this was the night The General rescued her from the inferno that was her parents lab. She let out a scream as the images flashed before her eyes the creature, David locking her out of the truck, burning his arm. She heard feet rushing into the tent.
“Your awake Angelic” she heard his voice and groaned even more.
Not that she would have expected anything less then him yelling at her but currently her senses were on overload and it was killing her to feel her head splitting from the pain. She felt someone’s hand on her shoulder pushing her back to lay down.
“You need to rest we are at the campsite we’ll talk tomorrow when your feeling better.” There was a pause “I’ve alerted The General he’s on his way”
Just her luck it would seem. Her head hurt too much to even care and she laid down willingly as she drifted back into the darkness. Angelic began to stir as she heard the murmurs of voices around her. Nothing that she did would take her back into the abyss of darkness and silence. As the voices became clearer she could also hear what she could only assume was a beeping of a machine. She began to move her arms alerting them that she was conscious once more. She suddenly felt hands and flashing lights around her. Angelic struggled to sit up as she began to distinguish voices. She could distinctly tell The Generals and Davids voice. She slowly opened her eyes and began to look around, she was on a cot and the beeping she heard was from the scanners searching the area ensuring they were alone.
“Why am I here” she whispered softly, as she pulled the sheets off of her.
David was at her side immediately, he needed to ensure that she had her footing before pulling away. Angelic pulled from his grip and stood straighter. She looked at all the people in the tent watching her. The pain she still felt in her head was dull now but still present.
