Chapter Seventeen
Near the end of the week, Jessica did drop in at Larry’s office. He’d told her more than once that she’d be welcome any time, and so she packed up lunch and drove in to see him in his element.
He met the teasing comments of his co-workers with surprising frankness. “She’s the love of my life,” he told Chuck simply. “I let her go 20 years ago, but she’s come back to stay.”
It was clear that his friends didn’t know what to make of this suddenly open and emotional man, but equally clear that they cared deeply for him and were both happy for him and protective. Jessica was as delighted to see the rapport that he’d built within his company as she was by the scope of his projects and the easy assurance with which he took them on. Larry was doing exactly what he’d dreamed of
