Chapter Five

838 Words
It had gone past midnight and I had now been sitting here from before six o’clock, making sure their routine didn’t change any from what I had observed over the last week. There were no longer any lights on in the flat, and there hadn’t been for the last hour and a half. This signified that the target and roommate were fast asleep. This was my cue, it was time to take my kill. I made my way across the grass and quietly opened her window, which I had made sure to oil the night before when I had also made sure it was unlocked. The last thing I wanted was to alert the friend to my entrance because of a squeaky window. That would just be unprofessional and monumentally stupid, and I was neither of them. I hadn’t made the number of kills I had by making stupid little mistakes. Standing there for a moment in silence, I made sure I hadn’t disturbed anyone or anything that might cause me to get trapped. I wore black clothing from my head, right down to my feet, as it makes it harder to be spotted in the dead of the night by curtain twitchers, or even late-night dog walkers. I knew nothing had been heard, and I was certain I hadn’t been seen. The warm night was silent and perfectly still, there was no movement in the trees either. I lifted one booted foot over the ledge and into the room slowly and carefully, making sure I didn’t knock anything or make a noise. Once I had climbed in fully, I turned around and shut the window gently behind me. The last thing I wanted was a gust of unexpected wind to suddenly come and smash something in the room. The flatmate is a light sleeper and would come to see if everything was OK. If that happened, then I would have to kill someone else. Not that that would be a problem, a lot of my harder kills came with collateral damage. Turning around on the spot, I leaned down and carefully switched on the bedside lamp, knowing that it wouldn’t be seen by anyone important. I looked down and, as always, next to the lamp were the two bottles of pills I was planning on using to kill my target. There was even a bottle of water sitting by them. I love it when my targets make my job that little bit easier for me. Turning back, I looked down at my prey. She was lying on her back, one arm hung over the edge of the bed, the other clutched the quilt up under her chin. Her long red hair was fanned out over the pillow; it was so clearly dyed as there were dark roots and it didn’t match the girl’s olive skin. I sat on the edge of the bed, the girl snorted and shifted her head in her sleep. I waited a moment to make sure she had settled back down before lifting her into my arms so that her head fell against my shoulder as she slumped forwards. I pushed her head backwards; her mouth fell open and I picked up the first bottle of tablets. I opened the bottle one-handed and tipped the bottle to her mouth, the contents of which I poured into her mouth and down her throat. Her natural reflexes kicked in and she began to swallow and choke on the foreign objects. She started to writhe in my arms as if she were having a bad dream. Her eyes began to flicker as she tried to force herself awake. Her brain knew that there was something wrong. I pinched her nose so that her mouth was forced to open again and I poured the other bottle of pills in as well. Her eyes opened in a panic as I forced her to drink the bottle of water, some of which dripped down her chin. I let her drop to the bed and held my hand over her mouth and nose so that she was forced to swallow what she had in her mouth. This hadn’t quite been how it was supposed to have gone, but I needed to do something now, just in case she got herself to the hospital and survived the ordeal. She flailed under my grasp for a while, trying to get free, but I clasped both her small wrists in my free hand so she couldn’t escape. Finally, after a few minutes, the struggle weakened, before completely stopping. I let go, checking the girl's pulse. It was weak, but I knew now that she wouldn’t come around now. I smiled. One down, only six more to go. I would have to do this all slowly, I didn’t want people to catch on and realise who I was going for before I could finish them off. I would take up a job or two elsewhere first before I move on to the next one.
