Kat got back on the road. It was only a few miles to the farm and she was looking forward to getting there and having a nice bath. She was tired and sticky from a journey and a nice soak would be more than heaven.
After a couple of miles of driving, Kat realized she was lost. She tried replaying the directions Stacey gave her but it was useless. Looking around still driving and trying to a sign or anything to help she spotted a truck parked on the side of the road. She drove to it and parked behind it and got out.
"Hello," she called out as she rounded to the front of the truck. The hood was popped open and clanking sounds could be heard.
"Excuse me," she called again this time the clanking stopped and a dark-haired head popped out from under the car. It was a man but she could only see the dirt-covered face and messy dark brown hair.
"Um... Hi there!" Kat greeted with a smile.
The man slid his body all out shook the dust off himself of dust then slowly lifted his head appraising her from her feet until he met her stare with his ocean blue eyes. His stare was quite intense and made Kat self consciously pat her skirt before speaking.
" I am very sorry to bother you but I'm kind of lost," she said politely though slightly disturbed by the man's stare. He kept looking at her with now a frown on his handsome face. And he was handsome in a rugged way that left her quite breathless, especially with the way his blue eyes looked at her.
He looked her up and down again before opening his mouth to say "What kind of i***t comes to this place wearing those death traps?"
"Excuse me?" Kat chocked out in shock. Who was this guy and what was his problem?
."Who are you anyway?" The guy asked dismissively looking back in the hood of his truck and continuing to fix his truck.
“I am sorry! What?” Kat asked shocked. The man was downright rude for no apparent reason.
"No sane person comes here dressed like they have a stick up their butt,” he continued without looking at her.
" You are from the city right? I hope you are just passing cause we don't like your pompous types here ," he told her nonchalantly not even bothered with Kat's gasp of outrage and wide eyes.
Appalled by the rude and dismissive way he was talking to her Kat was at a loss for words. People from small towns were known to be friendly, albeit nosy, but still friendly. What was wrong with this man? Kat asked herself.
"What's the matter darling cat got your tongue?" he taunted finally looking at her with a smirk on his face.
Kat wondered what the man's problem truly was. He was as rude and arrogant as he was handsome.
Kat shook herself from her state of shock and yelled "What's your problem?. I just want to ask for directions."
", Oh my bad! Where do you want to go your highness?" he asked though it felt like he was making fun of her.
Deciding not to give in to his taunts she replied "Old man Mason's farm," giving him a tight-lipped fake smile.
He paused fixing the car and looked at her again and then sighed
"Go back down the road when you reach the fork road take the left drive down a bit and you will start seeing farms. The one you want is the second one."
"Thank you,” Kat told him wanting to be the bigger person. He kept quiet and went back to fixing the car. Taking that as dismissal she left him and got back on the road.
"Finally" Kat breathed out as she parked in front of the grey house. It was just as she imagined, not too big and very country with the vines growing up on its side.
To Kat, it was the most beautiful house she had ever seen. She was probably biased because it was to be her new home. She took a deep breath of the fresh air, smiled, and sent a silent word of gratitude to the heavens before walking to the front door ready to start a new life in Lambertville.
