Sudden realization dawned on Rune's face as his security showed up and started setting up a parameter. Two of them tried to take hold of Damien, but he waved a hand and said,
"Keep an eye, but don't touch him. We need more information and at the moment he's been more of an ally than a threat. "
The security looked uneasy, but complied.
"Follow us back to Miss Rain's home and set up a security detail there. Take any of the deathwalkers into custody for questions that are not dead and dispose of the bodies of those that are."
The security spread out, spoke into walkies, and set out to carry out his instructions.
Tempest looked around perplexed.
"Time to go home and have a talk with your mother." Rune said, clear irritation in his voice.
Tempest slipped her hand into Damien's casting a wary eye on the security detail and led him towards the house. Rune scowled, giving her the cold shoulder for the moment. At the moment she didn't care. Her first priority was to make sure Damien stayed in her sight and away from the glaring security. The hairs on the back of her neck raised and she glared back at them. That ever-insistent voice in her head growling This is Mine to Protect Back Off. Rune's audible growl expressed his disgust, which irritated her on a level she didn't quite comprehend.
Rune knocked on the door, and the lights in the rooms flickered on, making a trail to the hall.
Cassandra opened it and let out a surprised gasp at the surrounding security and something in the distance that Tempest could not see.
"So it's begun. Come in, I'm sure you have alot of questions Master Erikson." Rune was not expecting this response. He entered in cold silence.
"You may bring one of your men inside, Rune. The rest must stay out. I have a perimeter in place around this point, nothing can come within 300 yards of this house without me knowing, and nothing can enter that space without my permission." Rune nodded his understanding. Tempest was more confused as ever. "Tempest, take them to the Lounge, I will follow with Tea."
The Lounge was a center room towards the far end of the house. It had no windows, boasted a fire place, and had a dark library quality to it. There a desk at one end and beautiful antique couches and chairs in a comfortable wide circle. There was a dark red carpet in the center before the fire place making the wood floors more bearable in the winter. Next to each seat was some type of end table, miss-matched, but still managing to compliment eachother with a chaotic artistic grace.
Rune sat in a chaise across from Damien and Tempest, a stubborn, icey glare on his face. Tempest sat on a couch next to Damien a protective hand placed firmly but gently on his leg, arm threaded through his. The security guard stood behind Rune, in dark suit, with dark eyes, expressionless, standing up straight, hands in front, eyes staring forward.
Cassandra entered gracefully holding a tray full of tea cups on her shoulder, banquet style and carrying one of those foldable tray holders. She set down the tray holder with one hand and motion. Expertly she placed down the tray without spilling a drop. The air in the room was frigid with tension. She ignored it. Pouring the Tea and handing a cup and saucer to each person in the room. When everyone was served she leaned on the desk and surveyed the room taking a sip.
"Do you have a first question, Master Erikson, or should I lead?"
"Why didn't you tell her?" He asked anger dripping from her voice.
"She knows. She just doesn't remember. " She replied.
"Tell me what? What is going on? What were those things?" Tempest asked clearly unsettled. Her mother took a vial of glowing dust from her skirt pocket and went over to Tempest, sprinkling some in her tea.
"Drink your tea, my love, and the memories will return gradually over the next few days. But for now, I will answer what I can. What is happening is the Demons are rising, to prevent the dragon throne from being restored. And... You've met your mate, or I should say mates." She glanced between the two men, who then both looked at her horrified. "And your power is fighting the shield your brother gave you. If you don't wear it for few days you should be able to shift again. But I would advise you to wait, until some of your memories come back. "
"She can't shift right now? What shield?
You suppressed her memories? She has more than one mate? What have you done Cass!" Rune had stood up and was shouting now. Ice stemmed from his feet and started freezing the floor and climbing the walls. The whole room started to darken.
"Calm Down, Knight and know your place!" Cassandra's voice was steady and stern, and had an air of authority impossible to resist. The darkness was shattered almost instantly. Rune immediately stepped back and bowed his head. He took a deep slow breath, and the ice began to retract. Tempest was beyond perplexed and took a sip of tea hoping for some type of clarity.
"To answer your questions, Master Erikson, she hasn't shifted since she was 10. Her brother gave her an enchanted necklace for her 10th birthday. It was to shield her power so she could have a normal experience in high-school and not be burdened with the weight of her heritage until she was ready. She is young, most dragon queen's don't take the thrown until well into their second century. We were secluded here, there was no reason to supposed that we did not have more time for training, and growth and life experiences. I did not find her father until well into my second lifetime. I did not suppose she would find one of her mates so soon. The soul is not so simple as so many have deemed it to be. You are encouraged to pursue the first mate you find, that connection is rare and it often takes so long to find one part of your soul many never find the rest of theirs. Tempest has been lucky to find two parts of her soul in the same town, at the same time. The ancient history has revealed that they're are some that find as many as five parts. So slow your jealousy, and rejoice that her soul can be so satified. Furthermore, keep an open mind, because there may be others." She paused fir emphases taking in the two men staring daggers at eachother. "And your final question: I did what I felt was best for all involved. Do not"
