Home Sweet Captivity
When I woke up, my tiny 8 by 8 concrete cell was cold, dark, and I could hear the water dripping from the crack in the corner, all as per usual. Ah, home sweet captivity. The cell smells like mildew, and the sickly sweet scent of mold. I was kept in this cell for exactly 8 years; from the day I turned 10, to the day I turned 18. However, even though I woke up to the same old same old that morning, I didn't know that everything would change. You see, I am a werewolf. At 18, we gain the ability to shift and hear our wolves. And that day was my 16th birthday. Even though that day was my birthday, I started my morning as usual. I walked to the wall across from the concrete slab where I slept, and carved another line into the wall next to the hundreds upon hundreds that marked how long I had been in that cell. I had been in there for so long, I was numb to it. I didn't feel hopeless, or angry, or depressed. I just felt resigned, because I was completely sure I was going to spend the rest of my life staring at these same four walls, smelling the mold, and listening to the steady drip drip drip from the crack in the ceiling. After marking off another day, I saw walked back to my slab and nicely folded the small thin moth eaten gray blanket that was given to me for sleep. I put it at the head of the bed, and then started my morning work out. 100 push ups, and 100 sit ups in two sets followed by yoga, and a 2 minute plank. During my workout is when I first heard my wolf. "Wow. How weak are you? Only 200 push-ups? We are a wolf. We should be able to do at least 1000." "Thanks wolf," I replied. "For your information, we have been stuck in this cell for 8 years. We are underfed, underweight, and weak because of it. I'm doing what I can." "Fair point," My wolf replied. "My name is Joy. And today is the day you finally escape." "Escape?" I asked. "What the f**k are you talking about? We can't escape. We don't know the layout of this prison, we don't know where we are, and we are too weak to fight the hundreds of full grown wolves that surely make up this pack." "You will see how in a little while," Joy replied. "Just trust in me, and we WILL get out of here today." And then she fell silent. I had no idea what the f**k she was thinking. I couldn't escape! All attempts were severely punished by broken bones, bruises, and burns. Assuming of course, you actually made it past the tiny cell door that they never opened. However, I was not given long to wonder what she had meant, because about five minutes later, for the first time since my last escape attempt 6 years ago, my cell door opened.
