Chapter1
In the Grand Canyon of Arizona in 1900, there was a group of people known as the "Underground People," described as large, human-like creatures. They had 2 enormous eyes with 1 small eye in the middle, they smelled like rotten eggs, and they were very hairy and had huge hands. They didn’t like normal humans and would kill or kidnap them, and no one knew what happened to them when they took them down the massive hole. Nearby was an Indian village. The people were called the Cherokee tribe. The village was surrounded by mountains that glowed red and orange. In the daytime there were lots of cactus plants and massive rivers. They had to make a barrier around the village for protection to stop the underground people from killing them, stealing their animals, or kidnapping them. They had massive walls with spikes on them and a tower with guards on it. Their only defense against these massive underground people was fire, but they didn’t really know that much about the underground people yet. They tried everything else — spears, swords, arrows — and it did not affect the underground people. Their skin was like leather and armor, but it would melt if it were on fire. The Indians were a tribe that were brave warriors and would fight to the death. The leader, Big Wolf, was a powerful leader. He was tall, with long black hair and had scars all over his face. He was beaten as a child by his parents, and when he got older, he killed both his mom and dad. He was getting angry with the underground people, so he made a plan and set up a team of his best men. 3005 men were brave enough to be on the team, as the other ten thousand were too scared and said it was a death sentence and would have no part in it. So Big Wolf sat in his wooden chair that was covered in feathers and skulls and thought of all the other options he had, and he could not think of anything. Then, suddenly, he thought about the cowboys, and even tho they were enemies, they had the same problem with the underground people, and maybe they would help this one time. It was a big ask, but if they were to beat the underground people, they would need to join and need as much personnel as possible, and weapons. Big Wolf gathered the Cherokee tribe around the fire and told them about the plan and that he needed at least 10 people to travel to Texas and hand them the message, and that it would take them 20 to 30 days on horseback on an 826-mile journey. The next morning, Big Wolf picked ten people for the long journey. He chose Thunder to be the leader. Thunder was very young but strong and handsome and very loyal. Big Wolf knows he will get there safely and deliver the message. Thunder did not want to go. What if they kill us, Big Wolf said, u are not gonna go into the cowboy village? You will send a homing pigeon with a message saying what the plan is, and if they agree to send one messenger back, to give you the answer, you wait in the distance. The next morning, Thunder and the other Indians got all their gear and supplies together, said goodbye to their wives and kids, and started their long journey. They traveled ten miles, and everything seemed to be fine; the surroundings now had some trees and were beautiful, the weather was nice, they were enjoying the journey so far, and everything was fine. After another ten miles, it was time to stop and set up a camping spot for the night and tie the horses to a tree. They started a fire and cooked food, they had a drink, then they went to sleep, as they knew it was going to be a long day the next morning. They were all in a deep sleep, and suddenly, they all got woken up by loud screaming. They all jumped out of their tents to see what was going on, and in the distance they could see one glowing eye with a floppy human on its shoulder; it was an underground person with one of their Indian soldiers. They quickly grabbed their weapons, and Thunder grabbed a big wooden branch to set it alight on the fire. They charged towards the underground person while screaming with anger. The ground person turned around and ran, taking the Indian with him. They couldn’t catch the person around; he was too quick, and one step was like ten steps to a normal human. They couldn’t believe the underground person was so stealthy when attacked at night; they now knew they were more intelligent than they thought they were, and could be stealthy, and must hunt at night mainly as their middle eye lights up like a torch. They were very upset that they had lost one soldier, but this made them angrier and more determined to get to the cowboys and hopefully get some help, as the underground people were growing bigger in numbers and killing their people, kidnapping, and stealing animals. Thunder said Pack up our stuff, we are moving again, and from now on we have someone stay up while sleeping, and we take it in turns to sleep and stay awake, so we are ready for any more sneak attacks. Off they went, they felt terrible, they couldn’t save their friend or go looking for him, but they were far from home and had a long way to go; there was no time to grieve, and they were all silent as they galloped along. Big Wolf gathered the 3005 Indian warriors and got them to train. They had to be prepared and strong for the future attack on the underground people. Once finished, he told them to meet by the fire to talk about the next day’s plans. They all gathered by the fire, and big wolf sat down on his massive wooden feather seat. Everyone was talking, he hit the bell and shouted Listen up Everyone stopped and went silent and looked at him. Big Wolf told them in the morning, I want you to cut down some trees and make some massive nets. They must be massive to trap underground people and be very strong, so the ground people can’t get out. We need plenty of nets, lots of fireballs, and firesticks and fire arrows so that when the time comes to attack them, we are prepared. I’ll make a plan for the day we go to war, draw out the plans on paper, and set positions for the attacks. We will be ready for when Thunder gets back, and hopefully he is with the cowboys. Thunder and the other eight Indians had traveled fifty miles and were exhausted. They didn’t want to stop, but decided they had no choice. The horses were exhausted and couldn’t move as fast as they needed water and food, and were overworked. Thunder and troops set up camp and set a fire. Thunder said, I’ll stay awake first to stand guard and keep a lookout so you guys get some sleep. I'll wake one of you up in two hours. Thunder looked all around, keeping guard. There was nothing but darkness and coyote sounds. He was getting tired but only had a bit longer in till he could go to sleep. Finally, it was Thunder’s turn to get some sleep. He woke up one of the Indian warriors and could finally get some sleep. The next morning, they all woke up fresh and got moving again. The horses were feeling good again, and they had to pass through a river soon, so they could get fresh water. The journey was finally going to plan, with more rivers and food to hunt, they were now happy. Big Wolf and the Cherokee tribe had been busy; they made all the traps, weapons, and nets they needed. Now, all they needed was more troops to fight the underground people. They got another 800 people to join them against the underground people and are hoping more will join. Big Wolf will give another speech in the morning to the Cherokee tribe to see if anymore will join. Big Wolf didn’t force his people, but he knew how to make them feel bad if they didn’t fight for the tribe. He is certain more will join, and nearly all will join by the time Thunder is back, and hopefully with the Cowboys as backup. The next morning, he gave his speech. He told them, This is live or die. If you do not join us when it is time to fight, leave the tribe forever. The tribe looked at him; they were shocked. They had never seen Big Wolf speak this way to them. Another 3050 joined. Big Wolf was laughing in his head, he wouldn’t really kick them out, he just used a tough approach, he knew he needed to try different approaches. Big Wolf thanked everyone who had joined him, told them it would be worth it, and that we would be victorious, and screamed We will put the underground people’s heads on a spike. The Cherokee people cheered and chanted, big wolf, big wolf. This is it we are ready for this war this is make or break. Big Wolf got a few homing pigeons and sent them to a little tribe 200 miles away. They were related to the Cherokee tribe, but they just fell out with each other and formed the Crow people tribe. He hopes they will join to fight against underground people.
