I read Quiana’s last email over and over. She is finally coming to join the Pack. I cant wait to tell my dad. I made the mental note to announce her arrival to my parents right after dinner hopefully when they’re lushed from the table wine. I met her at the coffee shop while I was visiting New Orleans for the annual Pack Alliance Retreat 2 years ago. I knew then she was my mate. And my wolf has not let me forget since. “When will our mate arrive?!” Kodak, my wolf, was anxious to meet her wolf. Even though she has gotten her wolf yet we anticipated it. I knew once she would get her wolf she would find her mate. And hopefully she would accept me as her mate. I knew the story of her parents from my dad Alpha Eric. Her father was an Alpha but when his Luna left him for another man, he was set on hunting her down and killing her. So she took their baby and ran, no one found Luna Aries since. As the years went by the former Alpha’s health was declining, unable to produce another heir, my father Beta Eric at the time took his rightful place as Alpha and cared for the former Alpha until he died peacefully. Now it’s my turn to become Alpha. I turned 24 last spring and the pack believes that I am finally ready to lead. In my heart I know I am, but I can’t imagine to do it without my Luna.
As I walk in the living area to greet my family, my lil brother Carter runs up to jump in my arms. “Harper you’re home! Finally I wanna beat you smash bros one more time!” Carter was so ecstatic to see Harper, he nearly knocked over the lamp on the end table. “Carter!” my mother yelled, “Go sit your behind down before you rearrange the furniture!” My Luna mother was strikingly beautiful. Her almond skin has a yellowish undertone that made her glow like gold. She herself was half human. Daughter of a Choctaw chief and Silver moon pack Alpha Queen. Everyone was so shocked when they found out my mother’s mate was a beta. But as my father would tell it, she could spin straw into gold. And that’s exactly what she did with my father. She prepared him knowing one day he would lead our pack. This strong staple of a woman reminded me so much of Quiana. They carried nearly the same scent but Quiana’s was stronger. It led me right into the coffee shop the day I met her.
Flashback:
“Welcome to Brown Bean. Would you like to try our new salted caramel latte?”
“Is that one of your favorites?”
“Well I add chocolate syrup to mine. I call it a salted caramel mocha latte, if you will”
Wow she speaks so eloquent! My wolf nearly howled. Mate! Mate! Mate! It’s our mate! What?! You are crazy she can’t be no more than 16! I don’t even think she is wolf. Do you not smell that?! Yes it’s probably coffee. No, it’s not! It’s her. I can already smell her wolf! Her wolf? She hasn’t even gotten her wolf yet. Oh she’s there and I want her! Shush! She’s coming back.
“Here you are sir! That will be $3.95.” Quiana looked at me baring the most heavenly smile I have ever seen.
“Your perfume is very alluring, what is the name of it?”
“I’m flattered, but I am not wearing any.”
My eyebrow raised, I was instantly curious as Kodak had already claimed her as our mate. I leaned in to whisper to her ear “Which pack are you apart of?”
“I don’t have one!” She whispered back.
I handed her a Ben franklin and my card and left with the most delicious latte I ever had.
A rogue, Kodak! Stupid wolf, our mate is a rogue! She is not a rogue! How do you know? You don’t remember her? I remember her? I never met her before! You definitely met her! But you will find out soon. Kodak went into his realm, leaving me to get my own answers.
