Jax’s POV
When we arrived at the celebration, I decided I didn’t want to make my announcement to everyone just yet, so we went around to the back and joined the party in a more low-key manner. Just as we settled into the crowd, I noticed a couple going into the forest. No doubt the guy was having a hard time keeping it in his pants, his girl looked good in that dress. Or at least from behind she did. It made me smirk. I walked around and used my alpha hearing to eavesdrop on conversations, none of which caught my attention until I faintly heard an, “ow! What the f**k Addison?” I looked around for who could have about to argue. Whoever Addison was, her tone was one of anger as she lit into this guy. I chuckled at how wrong I was initially when I saw them going into the trees. The girl in the silver dress stormed out of the woods. Were they not actually a couple? Does this mean she might not have plans tonight after this ridiculous party was over? My curiosity was peaked. I was standing on the edge of the crowd on the patio as the girl stomped right toward me. She was scowling looking at the ground. Her hips moved so enticingly, she managed to walk through grass with heels on quite well I must say. I waited for her to look up at me but instead, her shoulder hit my chest and she just kept walking as she mumbled a half-ass apology.
Get her, my inner wolf’s command was all I needed to convince myself to go after this girl. Just as she was about to enter the house, I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her to the side. I didn’t want to go inside yet, and I didn’t want to make a scene, so I kept pulling her until we had a bit more privacy behind the corner of the house.
When I looked down at her face, her expression was one of shock and annoyance.
“Uh, who the f**k do you think you are?”
Her tone caught me off guard. I wasn’t used to people not knowing who I was because I was always in my own territory. I had purposely not introduced myself so I probably should have gone about this in a different way. I tried to flip her question instead.
“I could ask you the same thing. Who do you think you are to just blindly run into people and not even stop to see that they didn’t get hurt?” I stared down at her and started to realize how perfect she looked. Her eyes were icy blue, almost white and her golden hair was perfectly fallen around her face. I wonder what she was thinking as she looked back into my grey eyes.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Her question brought me back to the present.
“My name is Jax. And I was enjoying a nice beverage when you rudely ran into me without so much as stopping to make eye contact to apologize. You’re not very well-mannered are you?” I tried to come off as playful, hoping to keep my alpha tone out of my voice. I didn’t want to assert myself over her…yet.
Realization hit her and then she lifted a brow. “I’m sorry. Did my little shoulder bump hurt you or your ego more?” I chuckled. This girl is funny.
“Most definitely my ego considering you haven’t told me your name.” Her right eyebrow arched up again.
“I do apologize but I believe dinner will be served very shortly and I’m needed,” she stated and then quickly walked past me. I watched her hips roll side to side, appreciating the view of her ass.
I like her, Bane, my wolf, said as I watched her head inside.
Yeah, me too.
Addison’s POV
My eyebrow arched. “Most definitely my ego since you haven’t told me your name.” Was this guy serious? He was at my ceremony. Was he just crashing the party? My patience was wearing thin.
“I do apologize but I believe dinner will be served very shortly and I’m needed,” I stated, unamused and a bit irked, and strutted past him into the house. Just as I found my parents, dinner was being called. Ranked members of the packs were to eat inside and the omegas of the pack would be eating outside. I headed to the bathroom first to freshen up. When I looked at my reflection, my annoyance was evident. f*****g Liam. What was he thinking? I just shook my head and tried to focus on fixing my hair. God, was it this bad when that guy pulled me aside? What was his name? Jax? I didn’t recognize him from the earlier greetings and since he didn’t seem to know who I was, I’m guessing I missed him for initial introductions.
As I put the finishing touches on my hair, I started to think of Jax’s eyes. I knew his dark grey eyes had watched me walk away, I could feel his gaze follow me. The strange part was that I actually liked that he watched. I wonder what he thought.
Maybe it was the dress that caught his attention enough to feel that he needed to talk to me after I had barely bumped into him. My 5’6” stature would hardly cause any real damage to his 6’2” and he didn’t seem upset when he was talking to me. I wonder who this Jax is and where he’s from.
My thoughts were cut short by another girl walking into the restroom and I quickly straightened up and look a final look in the mirror before heading back to the dining area.
“Addison, right?” A tall burnette male fell into step with me in the hall as I was heading towards the room where the high-ranking wolves would eat. He must be 5 or so years older than me and at least six inches taller.
“Uh, yes. And you’re…Aaron, from…uh, s**t. I’m sorry, I’ve meet so many people tonight and I can’t keep everything straight.” He chuckled and nodded as we continued down the hall.
“Well, you got my name right. And the Full Moon pack.”
“Damn it! I was going to say that!” I laughed.
“Yeah, I just wanted to come over and say hello again since when we arrived, the alphas were already discussing politics and I didn’t get to introduce myself the way I wanted to.”
This guy was kind of sweet, yet he seemed he could easily control a room with his presence. His shoulders were wide.
“Your father is Brayden?” He shook his head and I continued, “Well then an early congratulations to becoming the new alpha mister Aaron. Your take your spot next week, don’t you?” He smiled and nodded his head. He must’ve pleased that I was able to make the connection for myself.
“Why, thank you very much but tonight is to focus on congratulating you, Addison. Gaining your wolf is one of the best things we get to experience.” He smiled brightly down at me and it made me smile in turn.
“One of the best? Any other experiences I should be looking forward to?” I sweetly asked. One might even say I was starting to flirt.
He bent down towards my ear and softly spoke, “Well, I hear when you find your mate as an alpha, it’s quite an enjoyable experience as well.” He winked at me as he straighten back up again. His whispers were giving me butterflies, and not the kind in my stomach. No, these butterflies were more south than that. I smirked at him.
“Well, Aaron, are you speaking from experience?” He was quick to shake his head.
“No, just something the Elders have brought up a few times.” I smirked inwardly. Good. That meant he was available.
We were at the table now. “Well, I should take my place, Aaron. I hope we can talk later tonight.” I gave him a little wink and walked toward the head of the table. His smirk in response to my wink made me feel like we were about to have a dirty little secret and I was looking forward to it.
