I walked to my seat and took my place to the left of my father and across from my mother. The alphas sat closest to us, followed by the betas and the gammas sat at the other end of the table. This was set up so that each respective pack members could talk about similar things they may be dealing with. The seat next to me was marked for the Timber alpha and my face fell. That seat would remain empty which meant I wouldn’t have someone to talk to apart from whatever conversations my father might be having. The Timber pack stopped showing up to events 20 years ago even though they received an invited for every single event hosted by every other pack. It would be a risky move to not invite the strongest pack and there was no need to anger their alpha unnecessarily. Next to my mother was alpha Richard of Blue Moon and his mate and next to him was Crescent Moon’s alpha and mate and New Moon sat next them. After the empty seat next to me, Eclipse’s young alpha sat next to me. He was only 25 and still unmated. Jameson was his name, and his reputation was one of lots of broken hearts and one-night stands. He didn’t particularly capture my attention, but I could see why some girls would swoon over him. His pack was also the closest to Timber relationship wise according to my father. I didn’t even know what that meant except maybe that if we were on good terms with Timber then we could also count on our relationship with Eclipse. Snow moon and their family sat next to Eclipse followed by the Full Moon alpha and his mate as well as son, Aaron.
It sucked that Aaron was on my side of the table. I wouldn’t be able to look at him for the whole dinner. This meal was going to be a bore.
Telling myself to suck it up, I turned my head towards the conversation. I last about a minute before I start rethinking my encounter with Jax. His hair looked so soft and the way his jet-black hair held perfect waves made wonder if it was as soft as it looked. I wonder if his wolf was black, too. Hm, I wonder what pack he’s from. Maybe he’ll be joining in on the run tonight and I could see what his wolf looked like. I know Aaron’s wolf was sandy brown, a few shades lighter. The Full Moon pack was almost entirely composed of sandy colored wolves. Maybe because their pack existed in the desert and the moon goddess wanted them to be able to blend in.
My zoning out came to a stop when the room all the sudden became very quiet. I looked up at my dad who was stock-still, staring at the doorway. I turned to see what he was looking at to find that everyone was staring at the door, completely mute. When my eyes finally landed on what everyone was staring at, I was surprised to see it was Jax and two other men I didn’t recognized. Between his wide shoulders, clenched jaw and serious expression, his demeanor looked like one of a killer.
Then he spoke in a tone I had never heard out of him. A tone of an alpha.
“Stand.”
