Chapter 38

Delilah face lit up with happiness at seeing Queen Ruby walking down the hall. She couldn't help but run over, and was going to bow to her when Ruby captured her in an embrace. She was surprised by the hug, but couldn't help but return it. She could hear the pain in Ruby's voice as she spoke. "I thought you were dead. You don't know how happy I was to hear you were found alive." She pulled back away, and saw actual tears rolling down her cheeks, and felt Ruby's hand on her cheek wiping her own tears. "I wanted to die, and sometimes begged you for death. I didn't know if I would ever escape." Ruby smiled at her, and sighed softly. "I don't know how your Mom knew, but she kept telling me you were alive while others were saying you were dead." She saw concern flash across her face. "Delilah, did they take your wings?" She nodded gently as she picked up her hair, and turned around. She felt Ruby move the back of her dress, and she hissed when she stroked the stubs of her wings, and they moved slightly. "They grabbed me, and cut them off immediately before I was taken hostage." She was surprised to hear a growl coming from Ruby. "I swear by the elders, if my father doesn't find them and kill them, I will personally do it. I am sorry Delilah, they are so badly damaged and infected. You will need to get the rest of them removed." Delilah couldn't help but look at Raz with a frown, but he just smiled at her. "They can't be mended?" She turned around to look at Ruby, and she shook her head. "No, I am sorry Delilah, once they're removed they can't be mended. We will have to take you to Spring to have the rest of them removed." She couldn't help the whimper that left her, as she felt Ruby wrap her arms around her. She could feel the pain from her words fade slightly. "Wings or no wings, you always have a home in the realm." She couldn't help but sob despite the soothing feeling washing over her. "Delilah, I really think you should return to the realm at least until we find who has your father and brother." She heard the worry in her mother's voice as she looked over at her. When she was held hostage by Alpha it's all she wanted to do was go home, and now she felt almost torn. She pulled away from Ruby as the stubs of her wings tried to flutter, and she felt pain. Her mother reached out for her, and she couldn't help stepping away from her. "I don't know if I want to go home." She didn't even realize she had stepped close to Raz until she felt his arm around her. Delilah turned into Raz, wrapping her arms around his neck, and buried her face in his chest. "I don't know what to do." He gently rubbed her back soothingly, making sure to avoid where her wings were. "It's your choice, Delilah. I won't keep you here if you want to go home, but know you have a home with me. I do think you should return until we catch Alpha. I can't hunt for him without leaving you alone, and I don't want to do that." She looked up at him as he reached a hand out, brushing some of her curls behind her ear. "If you are in the realm he can't get to you right?" She nodded with a soft hiccup. "Why don't you go there, and once we find him you can either come back or stay. I just want you to be safe." She rested her face against Raz's chest, cuddling close to him, and she didn't want to let him go. She felt a hand on her shoulder, and looked at Ruby. "I am leaving for the Realm in the morning. You have until then to decide." She could live with that, and nodded her head. It would give her time to decide, and a little longer with Raz. She leaned up to whisper in Raz's ear. "Can I still sleep with you?" He chuckled gently, as he whispered back. "You just want to seduce me." She couldn't help but blush, as kissed her cheek. "Of course you can stay with me." Delilah stepped away from Raz as a familiar face approached, and she couldn't help but watch as Psych quickly approached Kai. "Gamma Kai, what brings you here?" She watched Psych smile at Kaz in his arms. "Hello little Alpha." She noticed the girl was now wearing gloves. Kai looked at Raz. "I got a strange phone call on the way here. It seems an Alpha is looking for his lost mate in your pack. He wanted me to invade your pack, and take his mate back. I told him I wasn't in the business of kidnapping, and I was once a trained assassin, but I'm not in that line of work anymore. He wouldn't give me his name, or pack. He just grumbled that I had wasted his time, and hung up." She looked up at Raz as he frowned. "He must know you have me." Raz looked down at her with a soft nod. "I guess he does, and I would not feel safe leaving you alone in my pack." She sighed deeply, nuzzling him. "I am not the only assassin is the problem. His next phone call would most likely be my brother. He's on his way here now." Delilah felt Raz's arm around her tighten. "Oh, I doubt my brother would take the job, but if he did, he would ask to come into your pack, Raz. I believe you know his mate, Alpha Kida?" She looked up at Raz as his eyes widened slightly. "Had Kida found her mate? Did she find her sister?" She couldn't help but feel jealous, and looked at Kai as he nodded."She did her sister is my mate, Kad. She found her pack, and became Alpha, since my mate had no desire to be Alpha." Kai looked down at Kaz. "Because Kad stepped aside, Kida said that Kaz, being the firstborn female of their line, would have the choice to become Alpha. They just had their first litter not too long ago, actually. Oddly enough, they were all boys." She couldn't help but hold Raz tighter, and he looked down at her slightly confused before chuckling, and whispering in her ear. "I only want you, and Kida is a friend. She used to do the escort business, and I hired her for a few parties for appearances only. It kept the shewolves off me, and I was able to actually enjoy an event without someone trying to come on to me." Delilah saw his face struggle slightly, and she tilted her head until he covered her lips with his in a soft but passionate kiss. She couldn't help but melt against him. She was worried about leaving him alone, but for some strange reason she could almost feel emotions. She couldn't help but blush as she pulled away, and looked at her mother. She had a surprised look on her face, and she looked at Delilah with almost a sad look. She wondered why.
