CHAPTER 14 - THREE MARKS "We mark you. Before anyone else can." Kael's words hung in the air. My glowing hands were still trapped in his cold ones. Jax let go of me like I burned him. "Kael, no. You can't be serious." "I am," Kael said, not looking at his brothers. His black eyes were only on me. "If Erik tells the council she is a Silver Wolf and unmarked... they will come. Every Alpha will come to claim her. The only law that will protect her is the mating law. A marked Luna cannot be taken." Cole's face went pale. "But... three marks? That's forbidden. No one has ever-" "She is not a normal wolf!" Kael snapped, standing up. "She is a Silver Wolf! She has power for three! Look at her!" All three looked at me. I was still shaking, silver light crawling up my neck now. My eyes glowing. "She said MATE," Jax whispered, his gold eyes dark. "Her wolf said MATE when she looked at me." Kael's jaw clenched so hard it cracked. "Your wolf is confused, little one. You don't know what you want yet." "I know I don't want to be marked like some property!" I finally shouted, yanking my hands out of Kael's. The silver flared and he hissed - it actually burned him. "I just found out I HAVE a wolf! I just found out I'm not wolfless! And now you want to mark me? All three of you?" Silence. Mrs. Hana had quietly left the hall, locking the doors. It was just us four now. Cole knelt slowly, so we were eye level. His warm brown eyes were soft. "No one is going to force you, Elara," he said gently. "But Kael is right about one thing. The council kills Silver Wolves that are unclaimed. Because a Silver without an Alpha... is a threat to every Alpha. My mother told me. They killed the last one 100 years ago." "They killed her?" I whispered. "They hunted her," Cole said. "Because she refused to choose." Jax punched the wall. "So we give her a choice that isn't a choice? That's not better!" Kael looked at me, and for the first time, his cold mask fell completely. He looked young. Scared. Like he did when I first saw him. "Elara," he said, his voice low. "Do you think I want to share you? I have wanted you since you walked into my house in those too-big servant clothes, pretending you weren't scared. I want you to be mine. Only mine." My heart stopped. "But I would rather share you with my brothers than watch them drag your dead body out of this house because we were too selfish to protect you," he continued. "A triple mark has never been done. But if it is done... no Alpha, no council, no one can break it. You would be under the protection of three Alpha bloodlines. You would be untouchable." I looked at each of them. Kael - cold, cruel, possessive, but the one who knelt for me. Jax - hot, angry, golden, the one my wolf said MATE to. Cole - warm, gentle, the one who believed I was strong. "And if I say no?" I whispered. "Then we fight," Jax said instantly. "We fight Erik. We fight the council. We fight the whole world if we have to. But we don't mark you unless you say yes." Cole nodded. "Your choice. Always your choice." Kael didn't nod. He just stared at me, his fists clenched. "If you say no, I will still lock you in this house and never let you leave. Because I will not let them kill you." That was Kael's version of love. Terrifying and possessive and honest. I looked down at my glowing arm. The silver was pulsing, like a heart. Like it was waiting. "How... how does it work?" I asked quietly. "A triple mark?" Cole swallowed. "One bite each. Kael at your neck, as Alpha. Jax at your shoulder, as protector. Me..." He looked down. "At your wrist, over your silver mark. As your guide. Your wolf would have to accept all three. If she rejects one, it could kill you." "Kill me?" "Or drive your wolf mad," Kael said. Great. So either I get hunted by the council, or I die from three bites. I started laughing. I couldn't help it. Tears and silver and hysterical laughter. "This is insane," I said. "This morning I was a servant. Now I'm a Silver Wolf who might have to be bitten by three Alphas to stay alive." Jax suddenly grabbed me, not gently, but desperately, and pulled me against him. His forehead touched mine. His gold eyes were burning into my silver ones. "Say no then," he whispered, so only I could hear. "Say no and run. I will go with you. Just you and me. We can leave tonight. Let Kael and Cole have the packs. I don't care." For a second, I wanted to. My wolf howled YES inside me, leaning into Jax. But outside, wolves howled again. Closer this time. Erik hadn't left. He was waiting at the border. They would never let us run. I pulled back from Jax, tears in my silver eyes, and looked at all three of them. "Will it hurt?" Kael closed his eyes in relief. "Yes." Jax looked like I had slapped him. "Elara-" "But will I be safe after?" I asked. Cole nodded, tears in his own eyes now. "You will be the safest wolf in the world. Because you will have three Alphas who would burn the world for you." I took a deep breath. The silver light crawled all the way to my shoulder, like it was ready. "Okay," I whispered. Three heads snapped up. "Okay?" Kael said. "Okay, mark me," I said, my voice shaking but clear. "But not because I'm scared of the council. Mark me because... because I choose you. All three of you. My wolf chooses you." The moment I said it, my silver exploded. So bright we all had to close our eyes. And when I opened them, my wolf was standing behind me in spirit form - huge, pure white, silver eyes, bigger than any Alpha wolf. She looked at the triplets and bared her teeth - not in threat. In claim. Kael dropped to his knees again without being told. This time Jax and Cole did too. Three Alphas. Kneeling to me. "My Luna," they whispered together. And the white wolf in me growled one word that shook the whole house. MINE.
