Maddox POV
Did that Omega just yell at me then run away? I was about to chase her when Kara came back in, “oh hey, where did that Omega girl go?”
“Not sure,” I said through gritted teeth, “she took off right after you went to get a plate.”
“Well she seems nice, even if she seemed a little slow. Did you see the way she just stared at me when I introduced myself?”
“Yes she seems to be strange,” I said before thinking about how my chosen mate and my fated mate were in the same room just now, how strange is that? I spent a year looking for my mate when I was 25. My mother had talked my father into it, he had wanted me to select a chosen that would be a good match to rule by my side. He was worried I would find someone that was unsuitable, jokes on me because that’s exactly what happened.
I can’t have an Omega as a mate, that would be f*****g disastrous. Plus, I had asked her Alpha about her last night once I rejoined the party. I told him it was because I was so impressed with her cooking, which to be honest was fantastic, but I needed to know more about her, as did Leo. Darren told me she was an odd one, unpopular even among the Omegas, he said it was because she didn’t like to shift in front of anyone. No one had ever seen her wolf, and there were rumors that she didn’t have one. He said he only knew this because his daughter had filled him in on potentially harmful gossip, and for some reason she thought I might not take kindly to a wolf-less Omega. I honestly couldn’t care less about that, although if she didn’t have a wolf, it would be one more thing that made her wrong for this position.
“Earth to Maddox,” I heard Kara say.
“Yes, what is it?” I snapped at her.
“Jesus don’t bite my head off, when are we going to leave this place? I think I’m starting to get bugs from being around all these mutts.” I sighed Kara could be nice to people when she wanted to be, like she was with my mate, but she was also stuck-up, vain, and self-important, she cared only about herself and things that could promote her own inflated sense of importance.
“Soon, I think we’ll leave in a few hours.”
“Ok thank the Goddess, oh my goodness,” she said moaning, making me turn to look at her.
“What?”
“This Danish is so freaking good, actually so are these biscuits. You need to find out who cooks their food because this s**t is amazing.” Huh, that gave me an idea, one that might mean I can have my mate close to me without setting off warning bells about bringing a strange woman home.
“That Omega you seemed to like, is their cook.”
“Seriously? Doesn’t she do all their cleaning and stuff? I thought she just made you a plate and was going to bring it to you. You’re telling me she cooks like this, and they don’t have her in here 24/7 to make all the food?”
“I guess not, hmm,” I said knowing she’d ask what I was thinking.
“What is it?”
“Our ceremony is in a week, and I don’t even think our chef cooks breakfasts this well. I can’t say for sure what her other meals are like but what do you think about asking her Alpha if we can borrow her for the week? She would be able to make the morning breakfast feast.”
“That is a fantastic idea! I want our day to be perfect and if I have these Danishes that morning then it will start off as the best day ever.”
“Done then, I’ll go talk to her Alpha.”
“Ask her first.”
“Why?”
“I don’t want a pissed off cook making our food, if she’s mad that you forced her to go, she might not cook very well.”
“She will if she doesn’t want to become a rogue,” I growled out.
“Oh my God, relax. Just go ask the girl, I want everyone to be envious of our cook, not eating something flavored with salt instead of sugar.”
“Fine,” that worked out perfectly because I had to make a few things clear. Leo followed her lavender scent to the tree line where we found her sitting by a tree, with her knees curled up to her chest. My heart clenched for a moment seeing her in such a vulnerable position, but I couldn’t afford to feel like that so I brushed it aside.
“What do you want?” She asked sounding, sad. f**k I didn’t like that either.
“I’m going to be speaking to your Alpha, you will be leaving with us in a few hours.”
“What why?”
“My mate,” I said emphasizing the word, “fell in love with your breakfast, she wants you to come and cook all the breakfasts leading up to our ceremony. What my mate wants, my mate gets,” it might have been a low blow to keep calling her my mate but f**k it, she needed to know where we stood. “You will be coming back with us but you will be sticking to a few rules: you will not reveal to anyone we are mates, you will not draw attention to yourself in an unsavory way, and you will not have relations with any other males.”
“You freaking as-“
“I would think very hard about you want to say to me. Because if it’s anything less than, I accept your terms Maddox, I will have you banished from this pack today and made to become a rogue,” I growled out, although Leo was not happy with that statement. She looked at me with tears in her eyes before closing them and taking a deep breath.
“I accept your terms Maddox.” I didn’t expect her to give in that easily, I’m just hoping this isn’t a big mistake.
