Lucy POV
I hated this place and I couldn’t wait to have the chance to leave and go back home. My pack might not be as nice a place as this but at least there I wouldn’t have to watch my mate go through his mating ceremony with someone else. Just as I’m thinking this I realize that I need to get up and get my day going otherwise I’m going to be late, and I really don’t want to deal with Kara or Maddox getting upset with me for being late on my first day. I take a quick shower, get dressed, and make my way to the kitchen. Belinda is in there waiting for me and introduces me to the rest of the kitchen staff before she tells the chef that Maddox and Kara have requested I make certain items for them and he’s not to interfere with that. I’m a little worried that he’s going to be pissed off, I know our chef at home doesn’t like it when someone else is in his space but this guy doesn’t seem to have a problem with it, maybe because he’s younger and more used to going with the flow?
“Hi, I’m Trish, we didn’t get much of a chance to talk to each other when Belinda introduced you but I wanted to say hi and let you know that if you need anything you can let me know.” I turn to look at the girl that just came to stand beside me.
“Oh thanks, that’s really nice of you.”
“It’s no problem at all, so I’m kind of the assistant in the kitchen if you need me to do anything; clean up after you, get you ingredients, check the oven, anything really I’m your girl.”
“Oh great, I’ll let you know.” Trish seemed nice but she was a little much. She was kind of one of those really boisterous people that was overfamiliar. Or maybe she wasn’t and I was just being judgmental and she’s trying to show me a kindness I’d never been shown before. I know I was only going to be here for a short time but that doesn’t mean I have to alienate the people I’m working with while I’m here.
“Is this a permanent placement for you?” She asks curiously.
“No, just until the ceremony is over. The future King and Queen were at our pack for a celebration and Kara happened to love the food I made. She asked if I would mind coming back to be their cook for this week and make stuff for the ceremony.”
“Oh my Goddess,” she starts to whisper dramatically and excitedly. “You haven’t heard yet have you?”
“Heard what?”
“It’s all over the castle, the ceremony has been postponed.”
“What? Why?”
“No one knows for sure, but cancelation notices have gone out to invited guests and vendors and the castle has been told to stop making preparations.”
“Wow, so I wonder what that means for me. Do you think they’ll just send me home and bring me back when they reschedule it?”
“Girl, I have no idea, I’m basically a scullery maid,” she laughs out.
“I’ll have to try to find Maddox or Kara and ask them,” I can’t help but gnaw on my lip as I say that. It’s a nervous tick of mine that I really should stop.
“You don’t feel weird calling them Maddox and Kara?”
“No, should I?”
“I guess not, it’s just that most people around here don’t call them by their first name.”
“Oh, huh, they never really told me what else to call them. What do you call them?”
“I’ve never spoken to one of them in my life but if I did probably Alpha or sir and Ma’am.”
“Okay, I’ll keep that in mind thanks.”
“No problem! So listen you’re obviously new around here and I’m assuming you haven’t really met anyone else yet, right?”
“You are correct, I don’t know anyone except for the people I’ve been introduced to, and I obviously wouldn’t say I know them it’s just you know I’ve met them.”
“Ok so first of all, I’m your new best friend okay?”
Was this girl for real? I have never met a person that is this nice in my entire life. It was kind of throwing me and maybe it’s everything that’s happened to me in my life but I kind of felt like I should be suspicious of her? No, no I have to remember what I said to myself earlier, no judgement. And besides, maybe it would be nice to actually have a real friend here, even if it was only for a week. Or less since the ceremony has apparently been cancelled. Or Goddess hopefully not longer, they wouldn’t make me stay until it’s rescheduled right, there’s no way they could do that.
“Earth to Lucy,” Trish said in a sing-song voice.
“I’m sorry, sometimes when I’m cooking I get really into and lose track of what’s going on around me,” that wasn’t exactly a lie even if it wasn’t the cooking that was distracting me right now. “But yes that sounds good, I’d love to have a new friend here.”
“Okay great, well now that that’s settled you have to come out with me tonight!”
“Go out with you, is that allowed?” She looked at me like I had three heads.
“Why would it not be allowed, do you think we’re prisoners here or something?”
“Oh no, no, I just meant, well we always have to get permission to leave the pack lands, at least the Omegas do so most of us rarely leave.”
“That’s the most asinine thing I’ve ever heard of. Yes we’re Omegas, and yes we live here in the palace but we aren’t servants. I mean technically I guess we are, but we’re not prisoners here. We don’t have to ask our superiors for permission to leave.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t realize,” I could feel myself blushing, Goddess I felt like such a fool. If word got out and back to my pack that I asked something like this the Luna would be furious with me.
“Hey it’s okay, you’re not from here it’s only natural that you would have different customs or whatever. So anyway, tonight, you, me, and a bunch of other pack members hitting up the best club around what do you say?”
“Oh I don’t know, I’ve never been clubbing and I don’t really have anything else to wear besides working outfits.”
“You’ve never gone clubbing?” She shrieked, “well that’s that, you’re coming with us. And don’t worry about an outfit, we’ll go back to my room when we’re done here for the night and you can borrow something from me okay?”
What the heck, I would probably never have another chance to do something like this again. I might as well have some fun while I’m here, my mate certainly won’t give two figs about anything I’m doing, he has made that abundantly clear. “Sure, why not?”
“Eeeeee, I’m so excited.”
“Girls,” Belinda snaps from behind us, “I’m very glad the two of you are getting alone but breakfast isn’t going to make itself,” she gave us a pointed look and Trish and I got back to work. This pack was much larger than my own so I stayed incredibly busy all day. I mostly worked on the pastries, apparently that was what Kara and wanted because that’s what she fell in love with. I hadn’t seen her all day but someone had come down to get a plate of what I was making and take it up to her. Once we had finished our duties for the day Trish and I left the kitchen. I went to my room to shower and she decided she would go to her room to grab some outfits for us to try on and just bring them down to my room so I didn’t have to try to find her place. I had just stepped out of the shower when I heard Trish call me from my bedroom.
“Hey girl, okay so we’re about the same size so here I brought this dress for you it will do wonders for you legs and your boobs. Once we’re dressed I’ll do your hair and make-up and then we can head out. There’s a few other Omegas going and one of them offered to drive all of us.”
“Okay, whatever you say,” this was not my area of expertise, I had never gone out, I had never dressed up, I had never been to a club so tonight I planned to just follow Trish’s lead. After I got dressed and she did my hair and make-up I went back into the bathroom to check myself out and holy crap. I don’t know what she did but the person staring back at me from the mirror couldn’t have been me. “Wow Trish.”
“What’s wrong don’t you like it?” She asked, joining me in the bathroom.
“No, it’s not that, I just can’t believe you turned me into some kind of princess.”
“Seriously babe you’re gorgeous, all I did was highlight your natural features, now let’s get a move on I don’t want to get left behind!” We left the castle and hopped into a car with three other Omegas, they all seemed very nice and by the time we got to the club I was feeling more at ease with them. The line at the bar wasn’t too long so it didn’t take us too much time to get in. Once we made it inside though I was kind of in awe at everything going on around me. There were so many people dancing, the bar was also filled with people, and it looked like there were private sections overlooking the dance floor that were also filled with people. Trish grabbed my hand and pulled me right into the middle of the crowd. I had not idea what I was doing but I was having the time of my life.
