Elizabeth's POV
I looked around the well-decorated hall for the wedding. It was huge and beautiful. Obviously, Bethany had a hand in this. She must have surely asked the Finn family to make the wedding to her taste. Well, they wanted to force her into a marriage then they get what they get.
“Is she ready?” Dad asked
“Let me go and check on her” I smiled at him before walking away
Walking closer to the bridal room, I heard giggles from within. Bethany was taking this marriage calmer than I had expected her to. I thought she would sulk about it. Moreover, I knew she had a boyfriend. I exhaled. This was Bethany I was talking about here.
I've known her since I was born and even though our childhood memories were vague I still knew her. She was a spontaneous brat and sometimes in a good way. She loves doing crazy things spontaneously without thought.
She easily agreed to this marriage without even asking to know what the man looked like, how he would treat her, and if she would be happy. She didn't ask all these things and with how fast they prepared the wedding, I felt anxious while she was happily going shopping and partying with friends.
If I were in her position, I would die of anxiousness. What did she possibly tell her boyfriend to let her go so easily? I've met him twice and those times I figured he was very protective of her. He hated when men looked her way even though that was what Bethany liked.
Did she just walk up to him and say ‘We are over'? Or did she kill him? I laughed. It was a stupid thought but I still wondered what she told him. And why did she easily leave him when he loved her so much? He had a weird way of showing it but I knew he loved her.
With a sigh, I opened the door and all eyes turned to me. “Oh, Eliza you're here” Bethany said as I approached
“What fits more?” She asked, placing two pieces of diamond necklace on her chest
I pointed to the one on the right and she smiled brightly. “I told you I and my sister are synced” she said then handed the one I didn't pick to her makeup artist “Take that. I'll go with this” she said, admiring the necklace I had picked on her chest
“It’s almost time and Dad is super worried” I informed her
“Let the old man chill. It's my wedding. I need to take my time” Bethany said
Always so carefree. “Please hurry up. I don't want Dad, getting to go to the ER because his daughter chose to delay in here” I joked
The ladies in the room nodded as I smiled at them. Except Bethany who was lost in the jewelry before her. “Bethany” I called her attention and she hummed, rising to her feet
“I’ve heard you, Eliza. I'll be right back” she said and left the room
I hurried to her. “Bethany” I called to her then grabbed her arm, stopping her
“Problem?” She asked and I hugged
For a few minutes, she stood still before she tapped my back once and I moved back but held her hand. Staring at her, I found it hard not to cry. “I’m sorry” I apologized
“For?” She looked surprised
“My refusal has put you into this. I'm sorry. I'll miss you” I laid out my feelings and she held my shoulder with a wide smile
“I’m happy getting married. And I'm not dying, only getting married so get a hold of yourself. You don't want people thinking I'm older than you, do you? You gotta take pride in five minutes” She added a joke to her words which made me chuckle
“Who will help me take my drugs now?” I hugged her
“I'll call every day for you to do that or just pop in unannounced,” she said making me laugh
“I need to go now,” she said, pulling me off her “We don't want Dad getting a BP with my delay”
I nodded but stopped her when she was about to walk away. “What about your boyfriend?” I asked, “Is he mad?”
She waved her hand with a shrug. “He’s fine,” she said and began walking away
She looked over her shoulder and saw my worried look. “Forget about him, Eliza. I'm happy that's what matters” she yelled, walking away
I went back to the hall though out of sight as I would not want to ruin the occasion. I was to help her while walking down the aisle so it's best no one saw me. At least that was what Bethany told me.
An hour later, Dad came to me and he looked more panicked than the last time I saw him. “Where is Bethany?” He asked
“She is in her bridal room. The last I saw her she went to pick something” I said to him
“She isn't there” his voice almost coming out as a scream
“I’m sorry” he apologized and I nodded
“I’ll go get her,” I told him and he nodded
I went to the bridal room and the makeup artist and other ladies wore worried looks. When asked, they had not seen Bethany since she left the room earlier. I searched the entire building looking for her but she was not anywhere close.
I called and sent messages but none was sent back then I panicked. Dad was looking pale the more time was wasted. I went back to the bridal room to check if she was back and I met Dad there. “Dad, has she bee-”
My words were cut short as he pulled me and placed me on the dressing chair. “Dad?” I called him questionably
I didn't understand what was going on. “Sweetheart, you will have to get married to him since your sister has bailed. We cannot afford to offend the Finn family” he said
“No, Dad. I can't get married to him. Justin would not be happy if I did this” I explained, tears forming in my eyes already
“Forget about-”
I tried to get up and he yelled, pushing me back on the seat, “Forget about Justin!”
Then he turned to the ladies in the room. “Dress her up. No one will know she isn't the one. After all, they both share the same face”
And he left with my tears flowing uncontrollably.
