The whole drive is on autopilot. I have made this drive so many times now that I could drive it with my eyes closed. When I finally get there I turn my car off in the parking lot near the trail entrance. I take a few deep breathes to calm myself. We need this run more than we ever have before. Amara needs to expel her energy and pent up anger and sadness.
Getting out of the car I start towards the trailhead and start running. We need to be pretty far out before shifting. Don't wanna be seen by any humans. Running for about 15 minutes and about 3 miles out I make it to my tree. A hollow tree I have used for years to hide my clothes and other belongings. I take my clothes off and shove them in. Put my phone on silent and shove that in too. I walk a few feet away and take a few deep cleansing breaths. When I'm ready I call upon Amara. I begin to feel the telltale tingling along my skin I love so much. Soon it's followed by the ache of my bones breaking and reforming into the bones of my wolf. Within seconds I'm standing on all four paws. I look down to see my two brown paws. As a wolf, we are unique looking. Not very many wolves have four colors. The going average for colors on a wolf is two, sometimes three. You only find maybe a handful of wolves that are four colors in a lifetime. Amara is tan, white, brown, and black. We are covered in patches of color. I feel myself slowly being pushed to the back of Amara's mind where I will ride out the run. Amara takes the reins and adjusts her senses to everything around her. She perks her ears listening to the world around her before taking off like a bullet into the brush. We catch the scent of a rabbit. Off we go on our hunt, flying over logs and scrambling under bushes. Stopping to listen for how close we are. Amara catches a scent that stops her in her tracts.' mate' Amara breathes. she is panting heavily now and ready to give up on her rabbit. 'We need to get as far away from him as possible. we are not ready to see him again yet' Amara tells me. "run" i yell! we take off towards the waterfall as fast as possible. I have never run faster in my life. As I get closer to the falls I can hear the water and we start to relax. That is until I hear the sound of paws ripping up dirt and leaves behind me. I'm so happy he is new here he would never know about the cave behind the fall so I will be safe there. I come upon the pond at the bottom of the falls, Amara launches us into the water as gracefully as possible trying to keep the noise from splashing to a minimum. Paddling over to the falls we go behind the sheet of falling water. Amara pulls us up onto the stone pad, shaking off the water we pad over to our favorite spot to lay down. it has a view of the falls with the tree line behind the water. it's a beautiful sight to behold even distorted through the water. if anything it makes it more beautiful. We curl up and prepare for a nap as a wolf in a cave hiding from our ex-mate. its gonna be a long and painful week and a half.
