        The car came to a stop, and I looked around only to be met by complete darkness. The moon had disappeared behind a blanket of clouds, pulling along all the stars.          Everett pushed his door open and stepped outside so I did the same, taking in the smells nearby. The scent of tree bark, sap, and damp earth enveloped me in a familiar embrace until slowly, other strange smells added to the mix - fire and flowers, animals and people. All distant, all new.         The wind changed direction to the opposite of where we came, carrying the smell of gravel and mud. The path was not paved and went through the trees, which meant they had made it themselves.
