I slammed the door of Ethan’s car, glancing at Ben and the others that had already scattered. This time I didn’t even think to suggest going alone to meet my father, but when Caleb said he’d go with me, literally everyone voted against it. So now I nodded at Ethan as we headed together for the dinner, leaving the chilly morning wind behind and stepping into the warm embrace of the goddess of syrupy waffles, strong coffee, and crispy bacon.
There weren’t that many people inside - just an old couple sipping tea in one of the corner booths, four teenagers laughing loudly and slurping milkshakes by the door, and a few men sitting quietly at the counter.
