Chapter 4

1760 Words
I'm meeting my mother today at the ice cream where I work to tell her I'm pregnant. Honestly, I can't wait for my break to come. My feet hurt, my back hurts, and I want to sleep. "Winston, take a f*****g break. You're pissing me off." Talon sits me down. "Don't get pregnant if you can't handle it." Zaro scoffs and takes my orders to Nessira. Talon walks away, and I can't stop myself from thinking about that night. I giggle about my dream as Talon comes back again. I groan. "Stop your groaning moms at the apartment. She said she had a change of mind and wanted to see how well we cleaned the apartment." I raise my hands and drop them on my lap. "Just great, and she has the key. The apartment is not clean." Talon shrugs. "You have to deal with her nagging." Talon walks away. I wish I could say something, but I don't want to make that mistake. I get to the apartment and open my door. My mom is cleaning, listening, and singing a worship song, and I turn off the music to get her attention. "Eomeo!" (Oh my) She almost immediately looks at my stomach. "You've gotten fat, Chae-young!" My mom comes up to me. I laugh. "No, eomma (mom), It's something better." I smile, trying to make it less damaging.  "Museun tteus-ieyo?" (What do you mean?) I smile nervously, fidgeting with my hands. "Jeo imsin haess-eoyo." (I'm pregnant). My mom's eyes bulge. "Naega dangsin-eul jug-il geo ya!" (I'll kill you!) My mom chases me with the broom around the whole apartment, and I manage to run out the door, but I bump into someone. "Mom! Please wait!" "I'm definitely not your mom." Grayson furrows his brows. "Gray-," My mom comes out screaming.  "How dare you! Are you getting married?! EH?!" My mom calms down once she sees shock-ridden Grayson. "Hi." Grayson smiles nervously.  "Are you the father?!" Grayson looks at me and back at my mom. I wait for him to answer, but he didn't, so I answer. "He's my boss, Grayson Taylor, and.." I look at his hands, diapers. "Grayson wanted to congratulate me with baby diapers." I look at him and smile. "Thank you," "Oh, um, you-you're welcome." Grayson smiles sheepishly. "Can you believe Chae-Young?!" "Um, Chase Young?" Grayson looks at me. "Chae-Young, my Korean name." Grayson nods. "She went and got pregnant, and he hasn't even put a ring on her finger! Such a disgrace!" If only she knew, his ring was on someone else. "Momma, please let him in and stop talking about me." My mom smacks my head and lets Grayson in. My mom smiles at Grayson. "Geuleul jabneun ge joh-eulgeoya." (you better catch him), my mom whispers. Before I could say anything, my mom cut in. "You guys look so beautiful together! Let me leave you two alone." I groan in embarrassment. "Mom, please!" My mom gives me the death stare, and I back off. "I will deal with you later. You have a visitor." My mom puts the broom down and says her fake sweet goodbyes, and closes the door. "Your mom is nice," Grayson says awkwardly. I shake my head. "Don't lie, and how do you know I live here?" "I went to the ice cream shop, and Talon told me the address." I nod, looking at the diapers in his hands, and I smile. "Ok, Grayson, I'm three months pregnant, and we have six more months." Grayson raises his eyebrows. "Oh." I snicker. Grayson's so cute when he's not being hot. "I actually came to tell you something." Grayson sits down on the couch. "What is it?" I'm curious, is it something terrible? Or something good? "I bought you an apartment." I blink several times and laugh. "I'm sorry, Grayson. I thought you said you bought me an apart-," "That's what I said. I know you won't have space here, and I heard Talon speak about tight space at the little party we had, so I got an apartment for you." I smile. Grayson is so thoughtful, but my mom. I sit next to him. "Grayson, my mom will kill me if she finds out I'm living by myself or with a man that isn't my brother." Grayson smirks. "You won't be alone. You'll be living with my twelve-year-old daughter and her labradoodle, who's named Winston." My jaw drops. "Grayson, what if your daughter hates me? What if she tells Kiki?" "Rosalia doesn't hate anything but bugs, and Kiki barely talks to her, so we're good. I'm moving Rosalia in with you because I trust you, and she needs a girl to teach her how to do things with her girl stuff." I snort. Rosalia is a woman now. "Ok, but can't Kiki do that?" Grayson rolls his eyes. "As I said, Kiki doesn't talk or want to speak with Rosalia." I nod, and I decide to leave it alone. I don't want Grayson to think I'm nosy. "Come on, let me show you the place." Grayson smiles. "Wait a minute, I need a makeover." I turn to go and get dressed, but Grayson stops me. "I think you look beautiful." Grayson grins at my silence and pulls me into his car. We're in the rich part of L.A, and luckily I'm not too ashamed because I'm riding in Grayson's Porsche. When we reached the apartment, I couldn't help but open my mouth. "Grayson, is this an apartment or a hotel?" He chuckles. "We're at an apartment complex." Grayson laughs as he gets out of the car and opens my door. "Oh, thank you." He bows, making me laugh. Grayson walks inside with me on his right arm. The receptionist immediately hands him the key, and he tosses it to me. "Kiki knows that Rosalia lives here, but she won't bother to check on her, so I added you to the equation." I raise an eyebrow, but he keeps moving. "You're on the 20th floor, the top." "Wow, only the best for your babies." I smile, looking at the beautiful decor. "And my baby's mother," Grayson adds. "This is yours, 20b." I looked at him before opening the door, and I couldn't even walk in. "Grayson, not that I'm complaining, but this is way too much." He furrows his brows and gently pushes me. A frizzy orange-haired kid lay asleep on the couch. "Grayson!" I whisper. "She looks just like you." I coo. Her hair, though, is a mess. She has her mother's hair. Kiki is African American, and her biological parents died, and Caucasians adopted her. "Her mother doesn't do her hair, and I can't do her hair. Make yourself comfortable, and I'll have a mover transport your stuff." "Oh no! The least I could do is bring my own stuff." Grayson looks at me like I'm weird. "You're pregnant; sit down." I roll my eyes. "Which reminds me," He starts. "My sister, Nessie, saw you playing volleyball a few days ago." I sneer. "Ah, she told on me," I say sarcastically. "Nessie likes Kiki, ok, it's best if you're on her good side." Grayson grabs a water bottle. What he said makes me wonder if he likes Kiki. I've never heard him say one good thing about her. "What about you? Do you like Kiki?" Grayson pauses. He's completely speechless. "Hi, dad!" Rosalia smiles softly upon her awakening. She looks at me and smiles. "Hi! Are you the one having my baby brother or sister?" Grayson's eyes bulge, and I, not knowing what to say, nod. "Um, Rosalia, this is Winston-," "You have the same name as my dog!" Rosalia giggles but stops after she realizes it's my real name. "No offense." I shake my head. The name Winston is known as a dog's name. "Rosa, don't be difficult, and take care of your own dog." Rosalia smiles sheepishly. "Um, yeah, about that, Winston got our neighbor's dog pregnant, and she wants you to take the puppies." I try to stifle my laughter as Grayson narrows his eyes at Rosalia. "Whatever, just put them in a box and write free puppies." Rosalia giggles and nods, and Grayson turns to me. "I'll be back," He turns to Rosalia. "Behave." He walks out the door, and Rosalia walks up to me. "Can you help me with my hair? I totally get it if you don't want to, it's just been this way for as long as I can remember. I mean, my dad tried to do something, but it failed, and my mom doesn't want to waste money on a hairstylist." I smile and nod. "Of course, why wouldn't I help?" Rosalia and I hit off pretty quickly, and I managed to brush out her knots and make her hair beautiful. Rosalia and I walk the dog and order pizza. We watch a comedy show while we wait for Grayson. I had forgotten entirely about Talon, Nessira, or Zaro during this time. I left my phone at home as I was having a blast at this apartment. "Sorry, another late meeting-," Grayson brings in a pizza box only to find out I had already ordered pizza. "What time is it?" "11:00 pm, dad, you're beyond late." Rosalia says, still watching the show. "It's alright? Did you buy chocolate or marshmallows?" Grayson furrows his brows and c***s his head. "Why? Is that something you want?" "Dad, she put melted chocolate and marshmallows on her pizza. That's why she's asking." Grayson raises his eyebrows in surprise. "Pregnancy cravings, I'll go to the store." Grayson turns around to leave, but I grab his hand. "Grayson, it's fine; I'll eat without chocolate and marshmallows. Go rest." I take a pizza and lead him to the couch, where he rests his head on my lap and falls fast asleep. Rosalia looks at me. "I'm glad dad found a nice lady. My mom tortures him." Rosalia tidies up the chair while I sit there in shock. "I suppose he cheated, but I would too if I was in a relationship with my mom... I'm off to sleep!" Rosalia walks into her room, leaving me with so many questions. Kiki is such a kind person, and she always has something good to say about Grayson. From what I heard 13 weeks ago at the cake tasting, they were pretty much head over heels in love with each other, or was it just a lie? A facade to hide the truth? Grayson, what if you weren't even the bad guy?
