Alex POV
Walking the same path after so many years doesn't feel right. It feels foreign and forced.
nothing in these woods feels like home, yet it feels familiar. If I had a choice, I would have never come back here. But some things are inevitable... Especially if those things start creating chaos in my carefully constructed life.
I had to rebuild my life after everything this pack took from me, and I don't regret a single day. Because it wasn't just me, but Luca too.
I may have been kicked out long before Luca was, but he doesn't have to know that... not yet.
The only thing that separates, "City wolves" from wolves choosing to stay in the forest is, City wolves as they call us aren't that set on tradition and we cannot shift whenever we want to, whereas those choosing to stay in the forest live for the tradition and shift. They will never know the outside word, and we don't mix. Most wolves that have been shunned, chose a city life where they can start over.
For a wolf not having an Alpha makes them dangerous. We call them rogues because their animal instincts take over completely. An Alpha is kind of like an anchor. It keeps the animal side at bay and more sociable.
I shudder just thinking about what might have happened to Luca if I didn't find him. would he have gone rogue, or worse?
It's time to set a few ground rules.
as I neared The Rosewood border, the scent of hundreds of wolves filled my nose. This is something I do not miss. I don't miss having to share my space with wolves that know no boundaries. I don't miss the training grounds, and l do not miss the Alpha.
To be honest, my wolf has never even felt the absence of an Alpha. and now that I have Luca, she never will.
Ruby was born to lead, not take orders.
"What do we have here?" I heard a sickening voice from behind me. One i would recognize anywhere.
I slowly turned around and came face to face with one of the warrior wolves who tried to force me into submission.
"You haven't changed one bit. You still smell like a wet dog" I said, taking a noticeable step back.
"Still feisty" Kyle said, taking a step closer. I stood my ground keeping my wolf at bay. he doesn't know that I'm an Alpha... in fact very few know why I was banished.
"I came to speak to Kaide." I said, knowing he has an open link to his Alpha.
"Before we have some fun?" Kyle said, with that same sickening grin. some things never change.
I could give a command, and he will be forced to obey, or I can snap his neck... but that would cause too much drama...
"Just tell Kaide I'm here to talk... or he can pick up what's left of his pack" I said, the threat clear in my voice.
Kyle took a step back just staring at me, and I can guess that Kaide had heard every word I just said, and allowed me entrance. I watched as Kyle's face betrayed his emotions as it went from smug, to confused, to anger in a matter of seconds.
I ignored him, stepping around him.
"I'll find my own way." I said, not looking back.
I knew exactly when I entered the pack border because my wolf started to get restlessness. being in another Alpha's territory made her and me uncomfortable... Especially this one.
I was met at the edge of the field by more warrior wolves. These ones at least smelled somewhat decent.
"We're here to escort you to the Alpha's office" one said, looking at me sceptically. I don't blame him because he cannot smell my scent.
I nodded my head and followed quietly.
Everything still looked the same, except for the new faces, which is a lot. Well wolves in the woods only know how to breed... That is how the packs never decrease. I shook my head and just chuckled lowly.
soon we came to a stop in front of a building...
'This looks new' I thought to myself as I inspected the building carefully.
"The Alpha will be here shortly" the same warrior wolf said.
"Is this new?" I asked before I could stop myself.
"This is the Alpha's office. He finds it uncomfortable to allow strangers into his home" The warrior wolf said and I nodded my head.
Well after what happened a while ago, I also wouldn't want anyone in my home.
The scent of Burned toast hit my nose first. I scrunched my nose in disgust and turned around.
I watched as Kaide strode towards me with confidence and a blank expression. He doesn't look happy to see me...
"Dismissed" He said, and all the warrior wolves were gone, leaving me alone with him.
"What are you doing here?" He asked with a snarl.
"To return something that doesn't belong to me" I said, taking a photo out of my bag, handing it to Kaide. I watched his face lose all colour and realization set in.
"Yo.... You... You killed him?" He asked staring at me with anger... soooo much anger.
I held my finger up, "tst, tst, tst, not me. Someone worse than me, more dangerous than me... one that has his eyes on your pack." I said crossing my arms.
Kaide walked past me and opened his office door. I stepped in not bothering to wait for an invitation and heard the door click shut.
"Some of your wolves are acting out... whether you sent them or not... they will all end up the same. I came here because I protect what's mine, and that doesn't include this pack. If word got out that I came from this pack everything I've worked for will be destroyed... and I can't let that happen. I came to warn you. Get your wolves under control or back in your territory, or I will have no problem making them all disappear." I said, with a low growl.
Kaide lowered his head, and I could hear his teeth grind. "If anything happens to Luca, I will personally take pleasure in ripping you apart... this time I'll do it in front of everyone" I said, taking a step closer. "I dare you to challenge me, Kaide." I growled again. But this time I didn't stop until he was on his knees, with his head hung low.
"Stop." Kaide said, in a whisper as breathing became harder.
I relented and took a step back. "This is my pack, and I am the Alpha. You are on my territory. One word from me, and you'll be as good as dead." Kaide said. I stared at him for a second and burst out laughing. this was not a mocking laugh, this was the kind of laughter after a good joke has been told.
I took a minute to compose myself and looked Kaide in the eyes.
"You think your little pack can take down a purebred Alpha? Ohhhh sweetheart. You don't know anything do you? You think because you're a pack Alpha they can protect you... from me?
I wouldn't hold my breath. This is your first and final warning. I DO NOT repeat myself!" I said, letting out yet another deep growl. this time I didn't pull Ruby back... This time I watched as trails of deep red blood were left on pale skin. "This is what separates me from you... I don't bleed for, or because of anyone. Next time, I won't stop until you're dead." I said, crouching down to his level. I grabbed his jaw roughly, forcing him to look at me.
"Reel your rogue wolves in, or I will take care of them." I said.
"How did you even know their mine?" Kaide asked in a broken voice.
"There is only one wolf that smells like burned toast." I said, letting go of his jaw and stood up. I dusted my hands and folded my arms.
"Luca is mine... You made it very clear that you didn't want him the day you rejected him. If anything happens to him because of your incompetence... I will tare apart this whole f*****g pack... and then you" I said, opening the door.
I didn't wait for his reply, and I didn't wait for an escort... I just left.
