Chapter 10– A pull. Ryker's POV I paced nervously in my room as I came up with different scenarios of how today was going to pan out. I couldn't tell Rowena that she is my real mate but the moment the mating ceremony is done, it wouldn't take long before she gets into heat and…goddess! Enzo would lose his s**t that I won’t even be able to control him. An Alpha without an heir is a pack without a future. It’s like having authority on shaky grounds. Power on the brink of collapse. Elders were already hinting at it while I acted like I was unaware. I need a successor no matter if Rowena is my mate or not, I would have eventually needed one. Elly and I were actually trying until well the forest incident with that rogue. Rogue. I scoffed as I remembered the incident and my blood boiled, it was as if a deep inferno was raging beneath me, waiting for a match to lit it up. How easily it was for her to betray me. And yet, a little part of me felt responsible. Maybe I was the one at fault, maybe I spent my time training too much, and focusing so much on the pack that I didn’t notice how she was feeling. Maybe I pushed her away. Somehow I had driven her to it. I sighed as I ran my fingers through my hair for the umpteenth time today. There was no going back despite what Elly had done to me. Besides, canceling the mating ceremony would only make the pack elders satisfied and think I had finally caved in. A lot of people have put in a lot of hard work for this day to happen, I wasn't going to f**k it up. "Ryker," Bradford called from the door. I turned towards the door and ordered him in. "It's almost time." He stated as he walked into the room. "Why do I have this feeling of guilt?” I whispered. "Maybe because you aren’t exactly telling yourself the truth and also, not informing Rowena that she's your mate. I would suggest you inform her about it before it is too late," he shrugged, “but it’s not my place.” He raised his hands as if to say do you. "I already told you why I can’t tell her. I refuse to give another woman power over me.” I argued. I had given that power to Elly, I had let her take advantage of the fact that I love her and what did she do? She decided to humiliate me in the worse ways for an Alpha. "Right." His lips were set in a tight line and I could tell he wanted to say more but instead kept his thoughts to himself. "Well, it's almost time," he said after a long silence and I nodded. * Rowena’s POV "Hi, Luna, I am Georgina and I will be new lady in waiting." a young girl who I assume will be my age said as she stepped into the room with dresses on her arm, well body, considering the dresses she had almost covered her from the top. I wonder how she had even seen me. I wonder where Anika was but I was glad that instead of her mean glares, I got a bubbly personality. I smiled at up at Georgina genuinely. “Oh hi," she was the first person to be nice to me since I’ve been into this pack. Ryker hadn’t been rude but I guess his niceness but have been because I rescued him. His beta and gamma on the other hand especially Bradford, I didn’t have a nice first meet so I’ve been keeping my distance. Maverick, kept his distance but will occasionally smile and wave at me whenever we ran across each other. "So Luna I was thinking, which of the dresses would you pick out?" I cringed as she called me Luna again. I wasn't their real Luna, in fact, I was a fake, if it wasn't because I had saved their Alpha maybe I would be stuck with dirty attire, thirsty and hungry perhaps in this pack or somewhere in the forest. The only time I would have appreciated someone calling me Luna was when— I sighed. No. I need to stop thinking of what would have be. "Please, call me Rowena." I smiled at the girl wanting her to know I was okay with it. "But—" "Please, I would actually be comfortable if you call me by my name." I insisted and she smiled. "Okay, Rowena. How do you want me to dress you?" She beamed at me sending an energetic aura to me and I did the same. "Why don't you surprise me?" I shrugged and she nodded energetically. I could see her eyes lightened up. "Very well then, let's get you started." She began to pick, pull and tug at my hair. A lot of ingredients went to my face and after what felt like an eternity she was done. "You can look into the mirror now." She rolled the chair and face me towards the mirror. As she stared at my reflection, my eyes widened. It was as if I was staring at a totally different person. It didn't look like me and somehow it looked like me. My brown eyes popped out due to the eyeliner that was used to underline my eyes. My heart ache as I wished my Mom or maybe Dad had gotten to witness this part of my life. Tears began to gather at the corner of my eyes and before I knew it little droplets began to fall. "Oh no, Rowena. You are going to ruin your makeup.” Georgina fussed and began to fan my face making sure my make up wasn't ruined. "I'm sorry," my cracked voice couldn't let me continue and the reassuring smile she gave me didn't let me continue on my apology. "Come on Luna, it's time" she smiled as she led me out of the room. I swallowed as I took the steps that were going to finalize my life. The step that would finalize my future. I kept on reminding myself that I needed this before I would chicken out. As I stepped to the courtyard, everyone rose from their seat welcoming me in and at the far end, I saw Ryker and Bradford standing, both looking dashing but somehow my heart skipped as my gaze landed on Ryker's, my eyes glued to his as I felt a pull towards him. A pull that I didn't fight but instead let it control me.
