Chapter 9— Blabbermouth.
Ryker's POV
"You've found your mate" Rowena beamed as she walked towards me and I froze. Goddess! It was like I was seeing her in a different light, the way her eyes twinkled as she smiled, a one-sided dimple on her left cheek.
I swallowed, quickly averting my eyes away before I let these feelings overcome me.
"This is good news. Is it someone I know?" She bugged. She asked with genuine curiosity and happiness that for a moment I was almost tempted to tell her that it was her. That the moon goddess had made her my second mate.
"You must have misheard." I cleared my throat as I answered her with a straight face. Enzo kicked against my answer. After the betrayal from Elly, I wasn't ready to have a mate yet— a real mate.
"You didn't?" She frowned and I nodded.
The smile wiped off from her face and her hold on me instantly slackened before she moved away from me. "But I heard—"
"—You heard wrong" I cut in.
"Besides, you shouldn't walk into my office without knocking. It's off limits" I warned. I could feel Enzo whining and protesting so I shut him off.
"Right…” she drawled. Her brows furrowed, deep in thought, she opened her mouth to say something and then closed it. She nodded, then gave a small smile that I could tell didn’t reach her eyes. “I'm sorry. I will just —um, return back to where I was coming from,” she said then walked away.
I fought myself not to pull her towards me and have my scent on her, better still put my mark on her and let everyone know that she's mine.
"I would have asked who it was but I guess I have my answer," Bradford broke the silence as I watched her leave.
"Well." I ran my fingers through my hair. Maybe I should have sent her on her way when I got back on my feet.
But if I did, I would never have known I had a second chance mate out there.
"Is there a reason why she doesn’t know that you’re both mates?" Bradford queried.
"Because I don't want her to know. She's only here because of the contract and once it's concluded, then she's going to have to leave.” If she wants to but I didn’t say that part out.
"And she doesn’t know?” Bradford asked.
I nodded. “She must have not broken off the mate bond just like I didn’t do with Elly until today." Since Elly and I were still mates until today, there was no way I could sense the mate bond between myself and Rowena and even if I did, I wasn't going to act on it.
"Oh right," Bradford noted.
"So what are we going to do?" He asked.
"Nothing. And keep your mouth shut about this whole thing." I warned.
"Of course. What did you think I am? Blabbermouth?" He scoffed, offended.
"No, I just want to be sure it stays between us" I replied.

The Rogue's Territory
"I've been waiting for your arrival, Elly. What took you so long?" William, the Alpha rogue, questioned as he walked up to the woman in question.
"It didn't go as planned," Elly responded weakly. When William had come up with the plan that Elly returns to Ryker, she thought it would be easy and she would win him back. She knew how much his love for her ran but what she didn’t expect was to see how quickly he had moved on.
A move she hadn’t anticipated from him.
What was she thinking? Thinking he would forgive her so easily? She scoffed at the thought of her foolishness and ill plan.
"Well tell me how it went," William spoke, he began to pace around, unrest at the thought of his well-orchestrated plan going down the hill.
"Ryker ended up denouncing me as his Luna and his mate," she said. Saying those words out, she felt another wave of frustration and annoyance, why had she allowed William to convince her to move their plans forward, she could have waited baited her time.
"What?! You couldn't put your act on. Make him realize he still loves you. And that everything was a mistake?" William thundered, his veins straining on his neck as he spoke.
"How exactly were you expecting that to work? I f*****g had s*x with another male which he witnessed!” She yelled. “I humiliated him, made him look weak and foolish to the pack. You think he would accept me with open arms!" Her voice matched his tone. She was tired of him bossing her around like she meant nothing. Most especially when his plans don't go as he planned, she ends up being at the receiving end.
"He is your mate, you should have done something!" William growled, his face now an inch away from hers.
"Maybe you've just lost your touch, maybe he doesn't find you as appealing as you were before," he smirked and Elly felt her blood running hot in annoyance. William was just rubbing salt on her already open wound.
Rowena was a pretty female, Elly on the other hand knew from a very young age that she was a sight for sore eyes but Rowena’s beauty— it made her intimidated.
"But I warned you, didn't I? I told you to kill him when you had the chance but you f****d it up!" She said, ignoring the slight jab he just threw at her.
"The dosage of silver I injected in him should have been enough to kill him," William said dejectedly. He clenched his fists as he recalled that day. He should have ended him just like Elly had suggested but his pride was too big to admit his failure.
“The mating ceremony is tomorrow," Elly said, jolting him from his thoughts.
"We can’t just sit around, we need to do something," he replied. He wasn’t going to rest until he saw Ryker drop.
"You said mating ceremony, didn’t you?" He asked, suddenly stopping in his tracks as a bulb lit up in his head.
"Yeah,” Elly looked at him suspiciously.
"The girl, did you see her? Perhaps know her name?" He asked again.
Elly’s eyes lit up as she immediately knew what was going through William's mind.
"I did see her actually. And her name is Rowena." She smiled. Just when she thought all hope was lost, a new one was born.
"A girl like her must come from somewhere, won’t she?” She chuckled.
“We need a background check. Everyone has a skeleton in their wardrobe.”
"Well, darling, do not worry about that. I will begin my digging." With a smile on her face like she won the lottery, Elly walked away.
