Far away from the town of Neuron, stood another town, at the Southwest of the kingdom, called Barrowbreg, known for its wealth and elegance. Unlike the busy streets of Neuron and it's nosy subjects, Barrowbreg, was known for its quiet, yet lovely neighbourhood, where classy folks rode in their carriages, going from one magnificent gathering to another. In one of the mansions, carriages of fine designs come and go, with people coming out of it, dressed in fine silks. The women wore high flower hats on their heads, tying up their hair in tight buns, while the men dressed themselves in trousers and shirts, with a cane in their right hand, and tall black hat on top of their heads. The men gathered at a wine cellar playing cards and discussing about politics, while the women stayed in the garden informing one another of the latest gossips.
"Did you attend Her Majesty's last ball, Lady Aura?" a blonde woman in a dark pink corset dress, asked another beside her.
"Why of course, I did, Lady Aubrey" she answered with a polite smile.
"Well, did you see Lady Tabitha?" Lady Aubrey asked again, this time leaning closer to her.
"Yes, I did. Her dress was as stunning as always" there was a hint of jealousy that, Lady Aura tried to mask, as she recalled the red dress.
"Did you see the coloured girl in blue?" Lady Aubrey lowered her voice, and gave Lady Aura a knowing look.
A bright smile sat upon Lady Aura's lips and she answered
"Don't you mean the girl that outshined Lady Tabitha?"
"Well, if you put it like that, yes"
"Mm, yes. I saw her, and my my" she had a satisfied look on her face, as there was finally someone, who out shone her rival. The two ladies giggled a little as they discussed the events that happened at the ball.
"Speak of the devil" Lady Aubrey signalled Lady Aura as they both saw Lady Tabitha, walk in with her head held high. She was escorted by her brother, Lord Noel, who, Lady Aura has been trying to woo, for a while.
Tabitha wore a yellow dress that matches her hair and make her skin glow. Her blue eyes scanned the room with pride, until it paused on two certain ladies from afar. Her eyes didn't stay too long on them, as her brother introduced her to someone.
"Tabitha dear, I would like you to meet a friend of mine, Lord Malachi" he introduced. Tabitha extended her hand and the young Lord took it, placing a feather like kiss on it.
"Hello, Lord Malachi. Pleasure to meet you" her voice soft and mellow, like the cool breeze in the winter. The young Lord smiled upon her, as his eyes shone when he caught a glimpse of her bosom.
"Oh, the pleasure is all mine, my lady" his voice shook, as he couldn't control himself.
Tabitha sneered in her heart, as she stared at his disgusting look.
Why the heck will her brother introduce her to someone who can't control himself at only touching her palm.
Even though she didn't like him, Tabitha didn't utter a word as he and her brother starting a conversation. She chimed in every now and then, until her brother left to greet other people.
"Do you have a thing for art, Lady Tabitha?" Lord Malachi asked eagerly.
Pressing her lips together, Tabitha answered him
"Yes, my Lord" her answer was short, yet polite.
"Well then, the gallery awaits" he said as he joyfully led her to the art gallery. Even though Tabitha didn't want to go, she had to because he was introduced to her by her brother and the last time she left the guy her brother introduced her to, she was punished severally.
Malachi took her to the art gallery. They stood in front of a forest like painting, with vines for trees and rocks for soil.
"Do you know who painted this?" he started up a conversation.
Liam Hemsworth, she answered in her mind, but shook her head as a response.
"Well, it was painted by Leo Hemsworth. A fine young man, from the Northwest part of the kingdom" he filled her in, trying to impress her. Tabitha held her tongue as she screamed in her head of how wrong he was. She watched the smudged look on his face, thinking he's winning her heart. He showed her more paintings, untill she told him she was tired, and he took her back to the garden. Luckily for Tabitha, he met an old friend on their way there and got caught up. Tabitha took the initiative to leave and took to her heels, going to another garden. She sat on a fountain, and watched the little fishes in the water. The breeze blew and danced around her hair. She took a long drag of the fresh air and let out a tired sigh. Being a woman wasn't easy. Dipping her hand into the water, she caused the little fishes around to swiftly swim away. She didn't take her hand out or move it, and slowly, the fishes came back and started dancing around it. The sight brought a beautiful smile on her lips, as her blue eyes watched the fishes with fascination. The arrogant wall she usually put up was gone, and she looked like a little child.
"Beautiful, aren't they?"
She heard a voice asked from behind her and she immediately jumped to her feet. The arrogant wall that was once gone, was, once again put up, as she saw a tall dark skinned man in front of her.
"Who are you?" she questioned.
"Benjamin, my lady" he bowed. Tabitha stared down at him, and puff her shoulders up, making a 'hmph' sound. Turning away, she was about leaving, when the man suddenly grab her by the arm. Pulling her close to him, his wide palm, took a hold of her neck and he stared deeply in her eyes terrified eyes.
"Don't make a sound"
Tabitha that was about to scream, suddenly obeyed, which shocked her. Her eyes grew wide in fear, as the man tilted his head and bit into her neck. Tabitha tried to scream but it looked like she lost her voice. Tears filled her eyes, as she dig her nails into the guy's skin.
