What was that all about, Sparkle?" Au said as soon as she could no longer hear Brawn's footsteps. She had waited to be sure he had left the premises entirely before asking Sparkle.
"What exactly, ma'am?" Sparkle said playing ignorant.
"Don't try to act like you don't know what I am talking about. I am talking about the "We" you kept using all through," Au said with her fingers curved in the air in the quotation of what Sparkle said.
"I was willing to pay for him, ma'am, . . ." Sparkle answered. She sat on a stool and added what seemed like an arrow to Au. "And besides, why are you so concerned since you don't like him and want to get rid of him easily?"
Au's mouth fell open. She was not expecting Sparkle to ask her that question. She wanted to answer Sparkle's question but she could not think of anything to say. She did not actually know why she was so concerned. She was reacting to Sparkle's use of "we" but had not thought of what triggered her reaction.
Sparkle held her gaze at Au in anticipation of Au's reason but Au seemed to be pulling herself together.
"So you think I want to get rid of him? You think I am inhumane and irrational, right?" Au finally said slowly in a low voice.
"You wanted to report him to the Alpha and you said yourself that you don't trust him so that's why I asked you that question, ma'am. I didn't say you are inhumane or irrational though . . . . I am sorry if my words offended you, ma'am," Sparkle said moving her eyes away from Au to the wall. She knew that even though Au was her friend, Au was still a dignitary and her mistress.
"You can leave now. I want some time to myself," Au said as she walked slowly to her bed and sat on it.
Sparkle wanted to speak but after observing Au's countenance, she concluded that it was not the right time to do so. She walked gently to the door, stopped with her hand on the handle of the door and looked back at Au who looked away to the window. She opened the door and left.
A moment later, Brawn sighted Sparkle walking afar off and called out to her.
"Sparkle! Please wait up!" Brawn shouted as he ran towards her.
Everyone around turned in Brawn's direction as he called. They found it awkward.
It was quite strange for anyone to shout someone else's name out loud from afar. They would rather use the mind link except they don't have the scent of the werewolf's wolf. To get the scent of the wolf of any werewolf for the purpose of mind linking, one had to sniff the other's palm or neck carefully. The neck sniffing was the most effective and was used mostly by mates.
She stopped and Brawn got to where she was, panting.
"Sparkle, thank you so much for what you did for me in there. That was really big. It was because of your intervention that Au pardoned me," Brawn said trying to catch his breath.
"It's really nothing. Just be careful next time, okay?" Sparkle said as she let out a beautiful smile.
"Of course! I will be most mindful of what I do henceforth. Thank you once again," Brawn said finally catching his breath and Sparkle nodded still having her beautiful smile on.
"I must mention how much I really appreciate how far you went for my stupid ass. You went as far as promising Au to join me in paying for the window. That was really something you know?" Brawn said placing his palm on Sparkle's shoulder and she shivered a bit.
Brawn noticed this and asked out of concern, "Is anything the problem?" He asked because he thought she was scared of him since he had tried to kill a lizard.
"Nothing really . . . " Sparkle said smiling nervously. "It is just that . . . no young male werewolf has held me that way," she added in a low voice and looked to the ground. Her cheeks were turning pink.
"Oh, I didn't know. I am sorry," Brawn said retracting his palm from her shoulder. "It is just a friendly gesture," he added.
"I know. It is just the first time I am getting one from a young male omega," she said playing with her fingers and still staring at the grasses on the ground. Her cheeks were brightly reddish pink.
"Well, it doesn't seem to me like a surprise. You are always with Au. Who would want to dare? Au would have all his hair pulled out herself!" Brawn said and they both laughed.
After the laughter, Sparkle said, "I really meant it when I said we were going to pay. You aren't working and I felt there is no place you can get the money from. So I decided that helping you in paying would be not much of a big deal." She looked up at Brawn and smiled. Her ocean blue eyes dilated a bit and the wind blew her black hair to her face.
"Wow! That's . . .That's really nice of you," Brawn brought himself to say. He did not know how to respond to what she said. He was surprised that she could go that far for a person she met only three days ago and did not know well. "So what can I do to repay your kindness?" he asked as he felt it was only right for him to ask.
"Oh come on! I don't need anything from you. As I said, it is no big deal," she said.
"But you really did something big for me today. At least let me give you something," he said placing his forefinger on his chin and raising his eyes to the sky trying to think of what he could give her. "Hmmm, how about . . . how about a friendly hug? Since I don't have money," he asked bringing his eyes back to Sparkle.
She looked at him and he spread his hands wide open.
"Hmmm." She hesitated a bit. "Okay then. A hug is fine," she said and moved into his embrace.
Brawn said as he embraced her, "Thank you so much. I really appreciate you. You are an angel."
When he released her from his embrace, she could not look at him. Her cheeks were glowing red and her skin was developing goose pimples.
She turned her face to the side because she knew she was blushing. She said, trying to hide her cheeks from being visible to Brawn, "I . . . I . . . I really have to go now." After this, she turned and left immediately.
Brawn stood there confused at the whole scenario. He wondered what would have made her leave so suddenly. He wondered if he was the reason she left or if she had something to do. He suspected the hug they had but shoved it away because he felt that any hug from him would be warm and welcoming. He paused as a thought came into his head. He quickly sniffed his armpits to see if they had an awful smell. He was not satisfied with the smell but he felt it was not bad enough to drive Sparkle away. He felt the smell from his armpits was manly and not unusual.
He shook his head and concluded that he was going to get some perfume before he hugged any lady again.
Au lay on her bed trying to fight the only reason that she could find for feeling concerned when Sparkle associated herself with Brawn. She tried to find excuses for herself and thought more deeply about other reasons but she ended up with the same single reason –she had some feelings for him.
She refused to accept this and decided she was going to bury any iota of feeling she had towards him. She was a dignitary and not an ordinary one but the Alpha's sister. She knew was not supposed to be having or harbouring any feeling for anyone other than respectable Alphas and Betas. Having feelings for an omega was an abomination, talkless of having feelings for the new lowest ranking werewolf in the pack.
