"Bring me that boy," Alpha Veer commanded the gammas.
One of them went and returned with Brawn. He brought Brawn to the front of the throne and made him kneel before the Alpha.
The throne was made of Ivory and overlaid with gold. There were two diamonds fitted at the top of the throne. The throne had three steps. Beside it was another smaller throne also made out of ivory and coated with gold. Opposite them were ten chairs, five on the left side and five on the right side. The chairs were arranged such that the ones on the right faced the ones on the left. The thrones were in the sub-pack house and were where Beta Sinew and his mate sat to direct affairs. The bigger throne was for Beta Sinew and the other throne was occupied by the Beta female.
Beta Sinew and his mate sat on the chairs opposite the thrones and gave their thrones to the Alpha and the Luna whenever the Alpha was present in the sub-pack.
Brawn was kneeling in front of them all. His fate was to be decided by them that day.
The Alpha looked at Brawn with a face that announced trouble.
The head Salutary and his assistant were also present standing before the throne. Brawn knelt beside them.
"Tell me what was responsible for the abomination that happened yesterday night at the ceremony," the Alpha asked the head Salutary and his assistant.
"My Alpha, we have not experienced such before so the reason is still unclear to us, sir,," Salutary Hale answered.
Beta Sinew said to the Alpha, "I see this as an intentional act of disobedience of the pack laws. This young werewolf here has intentionally chosen not to shift. This is a deliberate action and it should be punished accordingly."
Brawn's heart raced and seemed to have increased its beats. He knew that disobedience to the pack law was not taken lightly. He also knew that being tried by the Alpha and the Beta at the same time would most likely result in death.
The Alpha said, "Hmmm. Truly it appears to be so because the head Salutary and his assistant have no explanation for this."
"My Alpha, I don't think anyone would intentionally disobey the pack law in the sub-pack house in front of the mighty Alpha and his Beta," Beta Felicity advocated for Brawn. "Look at the poor boy trembling and shaking in fear as he is kneeling before you. Does he look like he would want to disobey you, great Alpha? I see the situation as an unfortunate one for him. He has no idea why he can't shift. We all saw him following the instructions and trying his best to shift at the ceremony. If he wanted to disobey the pack law, he would not have bothered partaking in the ceremony at all . . . and besides what will he gain if he remains with no wolf? Nothing," she added.
Brawn's heart returned to its normal beats at the words of the Beta female. He was grateful she defended him.
The words of Beta Felicity made sense to everyone. The Alpha looked at Brawn for a while and asked the Beta, "Where are his parents?"
"He is an orphan. He was found in the woods by a hunter and he claimed his parents abandoned him in the woods and ran away. He said they were lone wolves. I couldn't trace his origin so I placed him under the care of the head Salutary and his assistant," Beta Sinew explained extensively.
The Alpha moved his eyes from the Beta to the salutaries standing before him and asked, "So you are both responsible for this pup here?"
