Yes sir," they both chorused.
"And I want to assure you that he will never want to disobey you. He doesn't have such courage," Salutary Hale added.
Brawn was surprised at Salutary Hale's words as he knew he had been punished countless times by Salutary Hale for disobedience. He was not sure if the head salutary said it out of love for him or to prove that he did a great job in training him.
"I suggest you give him till next year's shifting ceremony to see if he would shift," the Luna suggested.
"Yes, My Alpha. This might be a unique case of delay in his wolf emergence by the goddess. If you give him till next year's shifting ceremony, we will have the chance to study him and understand the cause of his delay," the assistant salutary said almost immediately. He had jumped on what the Luna said.
"This boy was found in the woods. No one knows his origin or his previous pack! He is cursed with an infection that prevented his wolf from forming! That is why his parents abandoned him to die in the woods. If he gets a mate, he would pass it down to his pups. He is going to be killed so as to prevent this infection from spreading!" Alpha Veer thundered and the Beta nodded in agreement.
"My Alpha, why don't you declare him a rogue instead so that he can be given a chance to survive on his own or probably find his way back to his parents' pack?" The Luna suggested.
"His pup might be found in the woods by some hunter and brought back into this great pack again in the future," Beta Sinew countered. "The Alpha is right. He is an abomination. He should be killed."
"My Alpha, How about making him an omega in this sub-pack till the next shifting ceremony? if he still does not shift after the next annual shifting ceremony of the sub-pack, he would remain an omega for life. When the other packs hear of it, they will know that the Alpha is a wise Alpha who knows how to show mercy," Beta Felicity suggested as she looked at the Alpha. She really wanted to save Brawn's life because she felt he was too young and also unfortunate for not having a wolf. As the Alpha was pondering on what she said, she added, "Also the omegas are not allowed to mate anyone else but themselves. If he has an infection. It will stay among the omegas and remain there."
The Alpha raised his head, rubbed his beard with his right palm and said looking at Beta Sinew, "I think I like that idea . . . Sinew, I think this is better." He liked the fact that making Brawn an omega would make promote his repetition among other packs.
"You are indeed wise, my Alpha. It truly sounds sensible," Beta Sinew replied and the Luna nodded.
The Alpha sat up and said in a clear voice, "This is my judgement. Henceforth, he is now lower than the omegas because he has no wolf. He would be taken to the main pack house to be with the omegas and serve there. He will be given the most work and the least food. If by the main pack's shifting ceremony, he still doesn't shift, I will decide then if he is to be killed or if he is to remain with the omegas . . . announce this to the whole pack."
They all bowed and said, "The Alpha's decision is just and fair," as it was said anytime the Alpha made a judgment.
