Chapter 28 going back home

Guilt is all I felt while I hang out with Gael and Andel for the past two days. Guilt because I knew what he went through and still did what I did.

I planned on telling him at the airport but I also don’t want to leave a bad impression of me. I thought about if I kept it to myself and what could happen if I don’t tell him.

so I decided to call him to my room to tell him about it even though it meant telling him his cousin is my mate and him not wanting anything to do with me.

As I was calling him on the phone an urgent knock came at my door. I went to open it only to see Gael’s the one there.

“ hey, I’m sorry, I can’t go to the airport with you. My dad just made this last minute change to have me go with the group that’s going to investigate the matter at thunder banes. I’m so sorry.” He held my face and pulled me in for a kiss that I hesitantly responded back to like the other times ever since what took place in my room with evon.

He let’s go of me, pecking me on my cheeks. His kisses are always sweet and gentle.

“ okay, but I have something to tell you..” I told him softly

“Gael. come on man, let’s go.” A tall bulky man shouted from the corridor leading to the stairs. He turned to see the man then looked back at me apologetically.

“ you’ll tell me over the phone. I have to be on my way now okay but I’ll text you to check up on you. I’ll miss you.” He replied while cupping my cheeks. A small smile played on his lips

“I’ll miss you too.” I murmured closing my eyes as he pressed one last lingering kiss on my lips before leaving.

I sat and cried in my room until Andel came to my room to get me saying mom, dad and grandma are waiting for us downstairs. He noticed I was crying but didn’t say anything other than looking at me with pity.

Grandma is going back with us, I’m not sure of the reason but I’m sure we’ll know once we’re home.

We’re in the plane about to take off when I received a text message.thinking it was Gael I quickly looked at my phone only to see it’s evon. I rolled my eyes in irritation before reading the text.

‘though you didn’t let me know when you were leaving I hope you have safe flight.’

I was gonna reply to it but then decided against it. As I was going to put my phone in my backpack another text came in, this time from Gael.

‘ safe flight babe. Let me know when you’re home, alright.’ With three kiss emoji and a brown heart.

I smiled replying back to the text.

‘Alright, I will’ kiss emoji with a red and green heart.

Two stops, two cloaks and twelve hours of travelling. We could take a straight flight back home but that would risk leading them to where we live. So we took a flight to miami then we cloak ourselves. take another flight to Saint Lucia cloak ourselves with a different look then took a flight to Saint Vincent.

It’s a lot all in the name of staying safe but I’m tired of running. This is no way to live. I flopped down on my bed breathing a sigh of relief.

Taking out my phone to see a couple of missed calls and texts from Gael asking if I got home safe. I immediately text him back letting him know I was home safe and that I’ll be taking a shower and go to bed because I have an exam tomorrow.

Two weeks blew by Andel and I completed our exams and are now preparing for graduation. graduation will be the following week and I am so excited.

I invited gael to come to attend my graduation because every time I tried to tell him about the situation something always come up, anyway, he said he can’t. I’m a little disappointed but He said he’d video call so he wouldn’t miss it. Andel said he doesn’t care if Gael comes or not, which I find weird because he was all for Gael when we were in Canada. I even cussed him out for saying that.

The day of our graduation I am dressed in a white simple button up shirt a black stretchy pants and simple black flats.

Andel is dressed in the same black and white attire and his black Clark’s shoe that he’s always cleaning. And of course we have our gowns on.

The graduation started everyone received a pamphlet for the order of events upon entering. we sang the national anthem then the school song and sat down. our parents and grandma’s are in the front row literally taking photos of us sitting listening to the principal give her speech. When I see my mom holding the phone to take a picture wiping the tears from her face I pretended to be fixing my cap, using my hand to hide my face.

“ Yolanda.. Yolanda.” I heard her whisper yelled. I turned to her direction raising my brows at her with my eyes wide open.

“ move your hand” she mouthed pointing a finger at me.i shook my head putting my focus back on the principal.

Soon enough it was time for subjects awards.

Andel and I had bet on who’s gonna get the most and who would get the award for the subjects that we both are doing. My palms are sweating as I looked behind to come face with a grinning Andel and he mouthed. “ it’s time” I just rolled my eyes at him because he was slacking off way before we went to Canada.

The teacher who came up to announce the awards were there reading the paper for a while like she’s confused then she went and spoke to the principal and two other teachers, nodded and came back to the microphone.

“Ladies and gentlemen, graduates.Good morning. Now, this is the first time we are witnessing this kind of performance in our school.” She paused with a smile and everyone applauded.

“ for the first subject, mathematics.. award goes to, Yolanda Anderson..” my family are the first to be heard clapping and cheering followed by the rest of the audience I grinned looking back at Andel only for it to be frozen from the next few words.

“ and Andel Anderson.” I got up walking up to get my award Andel following close behind me

“ the war is on, yolan.” I heard him say with a hint of smile.

Before she spoke again a teacher came and whispered something to her and she said okay.

They called the rest of subjects awards which aren’t subjects that I am doing then a couple of what Andel did that he got the awards for. The girl Jennifer that I had slapped got two awards an was looking at me the whole time laughing and I could’ve sworn I heard her say ‘ look at her she only has one award’ I shook my heard not paying her any attention.

As it is, Andel already collected five subjects awards I don’t dare to look back at him.

“ office administration.. yolanda Anderson.” I Went up to get my award then was going to step back down when miss Barbour stopped me.

“ oh no darling, stay here.” A proud smile on her face. Miss Barbour has always been my favourite teacher. I stood there casting my eyes to look at my parents when I caught a glimpse of someone behind my mom talking to my grandma’ ‘my dads mom’. Gael. He came.

When he looks up at me he smiled and winked. My breath got caught in my throat. My heartbeat increased, blinking my eyes not sure if I’m seeing things but I’m not, he’s really here.

After I collected four more awards I took a glance at Jennifer giving her a smirk and rolled my eyes. they called Andel on stage saying this one is called ‘the battle of the twins’ and everyone burst out into laughter.

Andel collected two of six subjects while I collected three of the six and now down to the last one. I’m not sure I’d take this however if I do I’d be surprised.

“ the last subject, physical education and sports.. andel Anderson” I clapped and smile giving my little brother a hug before going down while Andel stayed and collected more awards. Most well behaved student, most well dressed student and a couple more that I wasn’t interested in. When it was over I ran towards Gael jumping in his arms wrapping my arms around him as he held me tight. Our faces buried into each other’s neck.

“ you lied. You said you couldn’t come.” I croaked out as we pulled away. He cupped my cheeks kissing me on my forehead.

“ I’m sorry. I wanted to surprise you” he whispered smiling at me.

“ Yolanda, remember you’re still on school grounds my dare. And I wish you all the best in your future endeavours alright.” Miss Barbour said giving me a side hug.

She looks at Gael before She continued. “Boyfriend, I hope you give nothing but the best to her she’s a very good girl.” Gael nodded and smiled then she turned to my parents and grandparents telling them how wonderful and exceptional I am and all that stuff.

While I was sitting with Gael talking and giggling with him, Jennifer passed by staring at Gael before she glared at me then left.

“ what’s her deal?.” Gael asked

“ she’s jealous of Yolanda.” Andel snickers sitting down next to us

“ you’re joking right?.”

“ nope. I’m very serious. That’s why Yolanda was suspended.”
