We were at the sweet shop that Gael had brought me to last time. He had asked if he could tag along, I wanted to say no because I wanted today for my brother and I but I honestly didn’t have the heart to tell him no. thankfully i didn’t have to tell him no, or feel bad that I said yes because Andel happily invited him to tag along. A brown skinned girl who looks to be in her late teens walked over to us as we sat down. “Welcome to anamae’s sweet shop, these are your menu’s, one of which contains sugar free desserts. Let me know when you’re ready to order.” She smiled before leaving to clean the table next to us. “ Angie, you know you don’t have to always say that right.” Gael smiled looking at the menu as she walked to throw some empty wrappers and cups in the bin. Walking back and wiping the table she said.“ it’s my job, besides you’re not the only one at the table.” She straighten up with a grin then fixing the chairs around the table. Oddly, I feel a little jealous at how comfortable they’re talking. Especially with her carefree vibe, she’s just..there, smiling. plus the way he says her name. Well obviously..they’re from the same pack. “ relax. She’s always like this.” Gael whispered close to me with his eyes still on the menu. I looked at him embarrassed that he even saw right through me. “ what.. I didn’t say anything.” “Princess, she brought the menu for us a good while now. you haven’t even touched it..you were staring at her the whole time” he looks at me with an obvious smile and I just smiled back awkwardly before picking up the menu. Looking towards my brother now because he haven’t said anything and he’s watching the girl. Delly, don’t even think about it she looks older than you. I thought to myself. I rolled my eyes at how he looks like he’s about to have a panic attack by just looking at the girl. “Je prendrai un café glacé, magnifique” ‘I’ll have an iced coffee, Beautiful’ He smiled dreamily. of course he spoke in French. What’s wrong with him I rolled my eyes shaking my head at him. did he really think using a different language makes him look any better. stifling the urge to laugh i sulked a bit in the chair using the menu to cover my face. She nods jotting down on a little book. “Autre chose” ‘Anything else’ she asked looking at Andel unaffected by him talking in French. He raised an eyebrow, must’ve not expecting that. “Euhh non, c'est tout” ‘Uhh no, that’s it’ He murmured before giving her the menu.she turned to me. “D'accord. Et toi ?” “I’ll have a strawberry cheesecake and a French vanilla cappuccino please” I smiled a little to seem polite handing her the menu, and Gael gave her his as well. After she went behind the counter I turned to Gael. “ why didn’t you get anything.” “ oh, she knows what I want.” He spoke softly drumming his fingers on the table pursing his lips. I nodded, pressing my lips into a thin line. maybe I’m reading into it too much. it’s not that deep. He comes here often so of course she’ll know his usual. Why am I even jealous I barely know the guy for a couple of days and in another week and a half we’re not gonna see each other again.. maybe forever. Meanwhile I was here in my thoughts Andel and Gael were talking, nothing that I was interested in until he asked Gael back for prom. “ bro you should come for our prom, it’ll be lit. Also I’ll take you on a tour of Saint Vincent while you’re there.” “ yea I was supposed to talk to my parents about that, I don’t know if they’ll allow me to go on my own but maybe your parents can vouch for me” Andel nodded “ I’ll talk to my parents first to get them onboard, then I’ll give you the go ahead. It’s not like our parents would say no anyways they’ll be glad we’re having friends of ‘our kind’ visiting.” He air quoted ‘our kind’ with his fingers then laughed. “Alright, you have my number, let me know as soon as possible.” “ why as soon as possible?.” I questioned with a frown looking at Gael. “ well number one I’ve never been to a Caribbean country before. Number Two, you guys talk about how cool it is and number three I’m just eager to experience life on a tropical island.” He grinned opening his arms wide. A little chuckle slip pass my lips and I used my hand to cover it before taking a deep breath to stop. “What?.” He asked. “ oh nothing.” “ so why are you laughing?.” “ is it a crime to laugh now?” I questioned. He shrugged. I wonder if he knows what he’s getting himself into. Soon enough Angie came with our orders and placed them on the table accordingly. Surprisingly Gael also got a strawberry cheese cake and some chocolate looking drink. “ what is that?.”I asked pointing at his drink. “ taste it.” He muttered biting into his cake. He’s not even bothered eating it without a fork. I took a sip. “banana chocolate milkshake ..it’s not bad.” I said taking another sip. Okay maybe more than a sip, more like half of his drink. “Yolan, just get your own.” Andel spoke sipping on his iced coffee. “Oh, we’ll share. She’ll give me half of her drink, right princess?.” Gael said looking at me with a smirk.i opened my mouth not knowing what to say feeling my cheeks heat up I nodded. “ Ugh, remind me again, why did I invite you?.” Andel scowled and Gael laughed “Chill bro I know you love me but you don’t have to show that you’re jealous.” Gael joked. We sat in silence eating and drinking for a couple of minutes before the bell on the door rang signalling that someone entered the shop. “ Gael, I’ve been looking for you yesterday man. Where have you been.” My body freezes up from hearing the voice that sounded so familiar with the one from days ago. “ I was out, is there a problem.” He replied taking a sip of his banana chocolate milkshake “ no, no it’s just something I wanted you to..” he didn’t get to finish what he was saying when he came into view with my side profile. “ babe what’s so important to..Ugh her again.” I heard the voice that was so irritating to my ears. My head snapped towards her.I scan her up and down. “ Auri I told you to wait outside.” Evon huffed. “ why? It’s a good thing I came. How coincidental this thing is here while you want me to wait outside.” She rolled her eyes folding her arms. I’m now trying to fight the heat that is building inside of me. “ thing?. You’re more of a thing than I am. So low of you to start calling me names without knowing me.” “ how dare you talk to me like that?. Do you know who I am?.” I stood up and took two steps to her slowly, staring dead into her eyes. “I don’t care who you are, but you should care about who I am.” “ yolan..” Andel panicked voice started to say but I held my hand up to stop him without taking my eyes off this girl. Though She’s a bit taller than I am, I’m not scared of her. “ do you know who I am?.” I asked her again in a low voice. Andel is now at my side almost to the front of me blocking the girl. “ Yolan you have to calm down.” Andel’s voice reach my ear. shaking me a bit by my shoulder I snapped out of the feeling I was feeding into. “ we’re leaving” Andel grabbed my hand took a couple steps toward the entrance before he stopped. “ Gael can you..” “Yea, don’t worry I got it.” Gael answered before he could finish. “ alright, thanks bro.” He fist bumped Gael. I glanced at Gael, then the girl a little bit longer than necessary. She took a step back slightly bowing her head. I smirked at knowing she’s all talk and no show, allowing Andel to walk me out. On our way out I heard Gael asked. “ what the hell was that all about?.” When we were at a good distance from the shop I slowly pulled my hand from Andel and mumbled. “ I can walk on my own now.” “ what was that yolan?.” He frowned. “ I was defending myself.” I mumbled and continue to walk, not looking at him. “ really?. You were defending yourself?. The girl only spoke but you we’re about to get physical, yolan. What would’ve happened if I weren’t there?.” “ we ran into each other the other day and she was rude, I only wanted to scare her. she won’t be lucky next time.” I said as I walk a bit faster. “Well it didn’t seem that way. I had to shake you to snap you out of it. Is that only wanting to scare her, we are in a public place.” “ so what if we’re in public, I’m not going to cower from anyone.” He took big steps to catch up to me. Grabbing onto my hand. “ yolan.” He stopped and turned me so we are facing one another. “If you could have seen yourself from my point of view at that time, you would understand. I don’t want you to take this wrong but.. I don’t think you’re normal.”
