“You guys have to be on your best behaviour okay. If Liam says something to upset you just ignore him.”
“ but I thought you said he wasn’t gonna be there.” I said with a frown.
“ yes, but I’m just saying. In case he’s there just ignore him, Your grandmother has already spoken to your grandfather and”
“He’s not our grandfather.” Andel and I said at the same time. Mom just sighed and continued.
“ I know you guys don’t acknowledge him but please for now just behave. We’ve all agreed to let bygones be bygones.” She said.
“ I don’t remember us saying anything like that mom, do we even have a choice in this matter.” I scoffed and Andel walked out while shaking his head. He had said he just wanted to get over meeting the man so he can get back to his mate.
“ Yolanda you weren’t even born yet when everything happened. besides you aren’t adults to decide anything about that.”
So you’re just gonna force us to have a relationship with someone we clearly don’t want one with?. And yes We are adults.”
“ says who?.”
“ says the law of saint Vincent.”
“ well I’m sorry to burst your bubble but you’re in Canada not saint Vincent, and as long as you’re under my care you do as I say.”
“ but mom..” I started to say as dad walked through the door
“ dad.. are you also forcing us to have a relationship with that man after all he did.”
He heaved a heavy sigh before speaking.
“ Mi hija.. you have to understand, everything happened the way it did for a reason. It wasn’t your grandfather’s fault we left the country. If everything had went well with him accepting your mom the people who were after her could’ve caught us at the pack house or on our way to the airport. So in a way it was a blessing in disguise. We got to leave the country enjoyed our lives a little before we had you both and kept you safe all this while and you know what.”
“What?”
“ both of your grandma’s came together and I don’t know how they did it but somehow created a corpse that looked like your mom and I and made them believe we died in a car accident. That’s why no one looked for us all these years. So, listen to your mom okay?. You don’t have to have a normal ‘grandfather granddaughter’ relationship with him. A hi and bye is okay for now, we’ll see what happens along the way alright?.”
I nodded but I still felt some kind of resentment toward him. Why didn’t he visit us like grandma did though. No phone call or messages, no letters. Whatever, I’m grown now and I don’t need him.
We’re on our way to the pack house, Andel was texting his life away I know it’s Angie because he keeps grumbling whenever she didn’t reply right away
Pulling up out front I took a deep breath to calm my nerves and prepare myself for this meeting.
“ Yolanda, remember to be nice okay.” My mom reminded me softly and I nodded.
I got out the car and went to stand next Andel who was still texting on his phone and smiling. After knocking on the door grandma Jackie came to open the door. I squealed as I rushed to hug her.
“ grandma”
“ oh darling I still look young you make me feel old when you call me that.” She chuckled.
“ don’t worry, you still look twenty five.” I grinned as I pulled back letting Andel greet her. He gave her a tight hug and a kiss on her forehead.
“ look how tall you’ve become. You look so much like your father when he was this age.” She pinched his cheek with unshed tears.
Since I know myself grandma always gets emotional with Andel and I didn’t know why until I saw how she was with dad I had asked mom about it but all she ever said is that grandma has a soft spot for boys and that it’s a ‘mother thing’.
We were now inside the living room when grandma said she just mind linked ‘Our grandfather’ and that he’s coming.
Not even three seconds after she said that his footsteps were heavy enough to let us know he’s approaching. This is it. I’m meeting my so called grandfather. I hope I don’t burst with anger.
“Please stay calm, please stay calm.” I whispered to myself over and over in my head.
“ think good thoughts.” I said as I closed my eyes and breathed.
“ sorry to keep you waiting. Shall we take it to my office.” His voice deep and full of authority. This is the so called spencer. He doesn’t look bad. A bit intermediating.
We all made our way to the office and awkwardly Andel and I stood at the door.
Our parents and grandparents went through another door that looks like it leads to another room.. more private.
We followed and sat at the big mahogany table waiting for someone to break the silence. Spencer stared at me with a little smile and then to Andel, pride shown in his eyes as he looked at dad.
“ I’ve raised you well my son. Now you’ve raised your own.” He said with a proud smile and dad nodded to him.
“ as you know already this is my daughter, yol..” my dad started saying gesturing to me but Spencer stopped him with a raise of his hand.
“ Not to be rude but I’m sure they can speak for themselves . Right?” He questioned looking at Andel and I.. we’re both looking back at him and then I felt something almost like a force. It’s nothing harsh but it’s just uncomfortable.
Andel looked at me with a frown and I looked at him with a questioning gaze when he raised an eyebrow and I caught onto why I felt this way. He was forcing us to submit to him. Or at least he tried. mom and dad had explained all these stuff about being a wolf to us over the years since we’ve been coming here.
“ are you guys mind linking?.” Grandma asked with a little laugh.
“That’s not possible.” Mom whispered with a frown.
“Is it..” she then asked.
“ mom we weren’t.” I mumbled folding my arms over my chest slouching on the chair.
“ we’ll get that sorted out but for now let’s get to know one another. I’m your gran..”
“ You’re Spencer. Our dad’s dad.” My mother’s gasp sounding out through the room before she scolded me.
“ Yolanda!!. what is wrong with you?.” The c***k in her voice softened me a bit.
“ I’m sorry .” I apologized looking at her before glancing at Spencer.
“ you’re a stubborn one. But anyways, I’d like to make you guys official pack members. After all your parents are from this pack.
“ straight to the point huh.” I muttered.
“I like you” he laughed. His laugh vibrated through the room.
“ yes, straight to the point. I don’t like that you’re staying at a different pack when your parents are here. Your home is here..”
“ maybe Andel’s..but not mine.” I said with a bitter smile as I look at him.
“ Yolanda please just stop being so stubborn and listen.” Ohh my god here we go again with her trying to paint me as a bad guy. She frustrates me to no end.
“ I’m not being stubborn.” I huffed annoyed that she’s even siding with this man. He need to see that he don’t get whatever he wants at the snap of his finger.
“YES. You. Are. Why would you even say that.” She raised her voice at me. She actually raised her voice at me and it frustrates me so much that I just want to shout back at her.
“Because i am mate to..”
“ WHAT?!.”I mentally bi**h slapped myself for letting my frustration get the best of me, saying the very thing I didn’t want them to know about. I wanted to keep this from them until I know for sure evon would reject me or I have to go through with it.
“ you found your mate?.”
“ who are you mated to?.”
“ who’s the lucky guy?.”
“ is it Gael?”
“ why didn’t you tell us?.”
I closed my eyes massaging my temple as I’m Bombarded with so many questions. the frustration is growing and I could feel my eyes getting heated.
I opened my eyes slowly glaring at Spencer this is all his fault. “ yolan..calm down.”
I stood up with my eyes stuck on him when I heard Andel’s voice. I pay no mind to Andel as I fought the urge to hurt Spencer. I want to just stop it but there’s something in me that really wants to hurt him but before i knew what was happening I lost the fight. Spencer was clutching his neck, struggling to breathe as I lift him off the ground with my powers.
“ Yolanda, snap out of it.” Andel said as he shook me and came into my view. I look up at Andel his face shown with worry, hot tears stream down my face before he pulled me into a tight hug.
“Are you okay?” I heard grandma asked Spencer as he tried to suck in much need air.
“ you have to learn to control yourself yolan. I won’t always be with you.”he whispered.
“ Andel what are you doing.” I heard grandma’s panicked voice. She’s scared of me. I sobbed even more at that while my brother held me. He’s probably the only one who’s not scared of me.His heartbeat some what calming.
“ Andel..” mom started to say but he cut her off.
“ it’s okay mom. She won’t hurt me.” He said gruffly
“ you’re not sure ..”
“ this is exactly why she never trusted you enough to tell you. Any of you. She kept this to herself and struggled with it..alone. You took her to doctors and psychiatrist. You thought she was crazy but she isn’t because just like her I also heard voices in my head on our birthday. Can you imagine what it’s like for a child to go through?. Headaches, fever, voices in your head. YOUR PARENTS..thinking that you’re CRAZY??.” He said before continuing.
“ I had it for a couple of hours and I thought I was gonna die. She had to go through it for years.”
He snarled looking over his shoulder.Hurt evident in his voice as he spoke.
“ grandma, please..don’t be afraid you’d only push her away.” He murmured cautiously. mom and dad stood still in their seats and doesn’t seem scared or anything.
“So it seems I was right..” came Spencer’s voice with a little laugh.
“What do you mean?.” Grandma asked him
“ when they came to look for their parents and ended up helping with the aftermath of the pack attack last time.. the way she stood up to Liam, I knew she wasn’t normal. The thing is everyone thought the prophecy was about Lenora, turns out it was for her daughter. Liam also thought something was off about her that’s why I tested her.” I knew he was but I didn’t care.
“ what do you mean you tested her dad.” Dad’s grumpy voice rang out and mom put her hand on the small of his back to calm him.
Andel let go of me turning to look at Spencer.
“I simply use my aura on her.”
“You did this on purpose. You wanted a reaction from her.” Andel spoke with a low growl. His voice is now not his own.
With blinking speed, Andel already has Spencer by his neck up against the wall.
Grandma screamed and ran around the other side of the table and held onto mom and dad with shaking hands. They’re on the other side of the room while I’m between all of them.
“ you experimented on not only her.. but also me you prick.” Andel’s voice is deeper than before and it’s almost like three voices speaking at the same time. What the hell.
“Andel put him down.” I screamed as I see the horror on my parents and grandmas face. Spencer’s head slowly leaned to the side as he passes out. I quickly stretched my hands towards the window, twisting it. Thick vines bursting through the windows and wrapping themselves around Andel. I manage to pull him away holding him down. as Spencer was falling I pushed my hands towards him sending a vine to catch him so he wouldn’t fall too hard on the floor. Gasps and screams echo the room from my mom and grandma while this was happening .
It all happened so fast that I didn’t realize I used my powers on Andel in front of our parents.
Andel tries to get out of the grip of the vines as he see Spencer started to stir.
“ Andel please stop it.” I could feel my grip on the vines slipping as I begged him. His face contorted with anger as he glares at Spencer. A sudden heat envelope the room and the next thing I know was the vines that was hold Andel burned to crisp.
“Snap. Out of it” i gritted as I send more vines to hold him down again and just like before he burned them. It took a while but he still burned them. When he looked at me I almost got scared. His eyes we’re glowing with a copper colour as he snarled in warning before he walked slowly towards Spencer when an idea popped into my head.
“ mom, call Angie.”
