Chapter Two: The Morning After

I could not believe it. I loved down at my body and smiled. I was mated. I had finally stopped the games and mated to Nikoli. I looked over and saw him asleep on his stomach. His arm had rested on my stomach.

I smiled as I watched his breathing. I looked closer and saw his back more detailed. I ran my nails along his sculpted back and her him chuckle.

“Little fox that’s sensitive.” I looked to see his crimson eyes staring at me.

“Your back.” I started. He pulled me into his touch and kissed my forehead. He peek at behind at his back for a moment.

“I guess your power etched out on my skin,”he said as if it was natural. I pulled away only to have him roll me over on my back. He nestled himself between my legs and my breath hitched.

“Don’t worry little fox I want us to heal first,” he chuckled as he kissed the nape of my neck.

I hissed at he ran his knuckles along my shoulder. The markings looked like they were scorched.

“What do you mean my power…did I do that?”

He nodded. “When mates bond their souls to one another our power creates branding on one another.”

“But you have tattoos already…the one of your mother.” He kissed my cheek.

“That I had one of the wolves in the tribe complete for me. All the tattoos on wolves in higher rank are given with magic ink. But when a wolf finds his mate, if they are strong enough their power will create art on their skin..”

When Nikoli sat up I saw the detail as clear as a picture. It was a fox with its tail fanned out behind it. My power had created my animal on his back. I began to tear up as I reached and touched. I stopped when I saw my left hand.

There were drawings that reflected on my body. Nik chuckled as he glided his hand on my shoulder. I followed his hands with my eyes and saw designs on my shoulder.

The designs wrapped around my arm from my shoulder to my index finger. I pulled the covers off my naked body and saw how the markings connected to the second marking of my hip. There was a small wolf chasing after a foxling on my side. I smiled and followed the etching with my finger.

From my leg to my ankle was markings that I saw when I was a priestess. At the end of my ankle was the Moon its as full as the night I crawled out of the grave. I looked at Nikoli who was staring at the tattoo. I frowned at it.

“What’s the matter little fox?” he questioned.

“Its not like yours…” I said. IT was like it was reflecting off the light.

He traced the markings and i hissed but not out of pain. “Sorry, Zoe. It looks like your powers created them. I have never seen this happen before. Most of the time there markings are burned in your skin. The tattoos are on the male in the bond.”

I lifted my arm and saw it looked like it was disappearing with my movements.

“So this is not normal?” I frowned.

Nikoli shrugged. “I honestly could not tell you, little fox. There were not any documents of the Alpha of the pack mating with the Wiccan of the Tribe. I checked,” he said as he kissed the foxling on my side.

I moaned and wiggled away from him. That caused a hiss of pain to be released from my throat,

He glared up at me. “Rest,” he said sternly as he slipped his pajama bottoms and stood up. “You need to rest. Your powers took a lot out of you. You crawled out of your grave and walked here almost a mile from there……” I heard him swear.

I should not have mated with you.

“So you r3egret making me your mate,” I said. Tears formed in my eyes.

He [paused and turned to me. “Zoe what gave you that idea.”

“You just said…that you should not have mated with me.” Tears streamed down my face. He came into bed and brushed the tears from my face.

“Little fox I did not …I didn’t say that. I thought it because mating takes a lot out of both mates. You used your abilities and mating…” Then he stopped explaining.

“Nik,” I tilted my head.

“You heard my thoughts.” He frowned.

“I could always hear your thoughts.” I said.

He shook his head. “That was when I gave you permission, Zoe. My shield was up, no one can read my thoughts that easily.” He looked at me with amazement.

“So you don’t regret last night?” I asked.

He kissed my lips and grabbed the back of my neck. When he broke the kiss I was out of breath. “No, I don’t regret one second of you in my arms. I felt bad because I didn’t want to hurt you or put a strain on your body.”

I nodded and smiled. “I love you,” I said.

He kissed me passionately and pulled my closer to him. When he broke the kiss he smiled. “I love you too, little fox.”

He slid out of bed and pulled the covers over my form. “I’ll get you some clothes and have Jade come to check on you.”

“Jade?” I looked confused.

Nikoli nodded, “So when Jyde started taking over her mother’s duties as High Priestess she gave everyone her true name as Heirchild. Her mother and I had agreed that while she was in the village she was not to give her real name.”

“So Jade is High Priestess,” I said.

“She is training to take over. Her mother is letting her have the main duties in the village while she learns the ins and outs of taking over the temple.”

“Is everyone,” I asked. I didnt realize that everyone had mourned me.

“They know that you are alive, little fox,” he smiled.

“How,” I asked. I sat up with a hiss. Nikoli gently nudge me to lay back down.

“When we mated I am pretty sure everyone feel our souls mate. They probably felt your power as well. Lex texted me saying that there was a barrier up.”

I was shocked. “How long has it been up?”

Nikoli chuckled. “The barrier has been up since last night. It went down after we woke up.”

I was surprised and shocked I was never able to create a barrier to last that long. “Did I tap into your powers,” I asked. Nikoli shook his head.

“No that was all your doing. I can’t explain it but I think your abilities are fully awaken now.”

Nikoli quickly made breakfast for us and gave me one of his long sleeves to lay in. He told me that if I decided to wash off to take a bath and soak. He also mentioned not to panick about the sheets either.

I did not know what he meant until I got up to pee. I screamed when I saw it. I yanked the bedsheets from the bed and went to the fireplace. I sighed at how silly I was being and just tossed them in a plastic bag.

When I started moving around I heard a knock at the door. I answered it and had the wind knocked out of me.

“Oh my Goddess I am so glad that you are alive! You and Nikoli are mated and I am so glad that—

“Jade give her some room to breath,” a voice called out behind me. I looked up to see Alinta. I smiled seeing her in shorts and a ripped shirt.

I pulled the raving woman off of me to see Jyde…Jade in the High Priestess garb. She had tears forming in her eyes.

“I missed you so much. Thank you for the boots, “ I laughed. “Made the walk here so much easier.”

Jade laughed as I invited the two of them in.

“So you saw me?” I asked. Alinta was sitting on the couch while Jade and I were talking on the sofa. She nodded.

“During the funeral, before we buried you.” She whispered the buried part. “I saw you crawling out of the ground. I had to hold in my scream because it terrified me. Your eyes were blue and…” She stopped.

“Are you okay, Jade.” I asked. She nodded.

“Well I am happy you and your Alpha are mates, a lot of wolves wanted to go to war with the Shattered Pearl pack. Me personally I was hoping that ALpha Kai would have offered his little participate as an offering.” Alinta snickered.

I looked at JAde. “What happened to her?”

Jade’s eyes squinted a glared. “Nikoli demanded that either he kills her after your funeral or Kai exiles her from his pack. Kai chose the later and Nikoli made it clear the Shattered Pearl are not welcomed here. Least they want a war on their hands.”
