Gale moved away from her and shifted back into his human form. He picked up his trousers from the floor and pulled them on before sitting besides Lauressa against the headboard. He went to lift his arm up to wrap around her shoulders but she moved away from him. His heart ached as he lowered his arm back to his side and he waited for her to speak.
“You can’t always protect me.” She said quietly. This made his heart twist even more.
“But I have to protect you, I’m your mate.” He protested.
“You are and nothing will ever change that, no matter how much you irritate me.” She smiled flatly, “I will never reject you, even as you test my patience. However, you have more to think about than just me. You will be Alpha one day and you have a whole pack to look out for, not just me.”
