Chapter Four: You're a Boy, Aren't You?

2151 Words
Alex was getting worried. It had been eight days since she last felt Kainian's presence and no matter how far within herself she searched, she couldn't find any trace of it. Was the deal completed or something? She decided to visit Gavriel to check her suspicion. When she got to room 126 her confusion grew stronger. A nurse was changing his IV bag and Gavriel was...Alex walked over to him and grabbed his hand. His eyes were closed, his skin had grown paler. It looked like blood had been dripping from his eyes and nose earlier. "What is wrong with him?" Alex asked the nurse. The nurse smiled weakly and shook his head. "The doctors don't know yet" the nurse responded. He finished changing Gavriel's IV and wiped the blood away from Gavriel's face with a wet towel paper. The nurse began leaving the room. He glances back at her. "Would you like me to bring in another folding chair" he asked. Alex stared intently at her brother for a moment before turning to the nurse. "Would a visitor's bed be too much to ask for?" she said. The nurse smiled and nodded understandingly, throwing the paper towel in the trash can and left the room. The nurse returned about half an hour later, rolling in a small visitor bed and placing it in the furthest corner. "I hope you don't mind, the doctors need to be able to reach Mr. Foximore without any obstacles in the way" he said. Alex shook her head. "It's fine, I get why you're placing it there" she said. The nurse pointed to a small closet in the room. "Sheets, blankets and pillows are in there" he said before taking his leave. Alex glanced at the clock. 11:30 pm. She hadn't killed anyone since Daniel, meaning there was no upcoming Roxavite to fear. Kainian was gone and Gavriel was...seriously, what is going on here? Alex thought, kissing her brother's forehead. She went to the closet and grabbed the things, making her temporary bed and lay down on it. Without Kainian's laughter filling her head, sleep came quickly. Max was annoyed at two things: that he had to attend seventeen practice sessions before he could leave the squad and that Ash was getting more attention from the girls in the squad than he was. This would be the third cheerleading practice session they attended and according to his calculations, the seventeenth one would be in ten weeks since there was a long break before the intense training began. Boy was he counting the days until he could burn this outfit. He looked at Ash who was surrounded by at least seven female cheerleaders on the bleachers in the school's gymnastics hall. He supposed he could understand why they found him attractive: he was 6'3 with dark purple-green eyes and short, pitch black hair and wavey bangs what barely reached below Ash's eyebrows. They might be identical twins but separating them from each other based on looks wasn't hard. Max himself had short, spiked, blood-colored red hair and thanks to his heterochromia he had one dark-green eye and one dark purple eye. He was 6'0, thereby shorter than his younger brother. It seemed silly sometimes to think of Ash as his younger brother when there was only a two-minute difference between them. Also, there was the fact that Ash had always been more mature than Max. But that hadn't stopped the brothers from getting into their fair share of trouble in the past. His brother had his head bowed down and his flushed face was visible even from all the way here. Max laughed. He was contemplating walking up to them and saving his brother. The girls were definitely hitting on him and Max couldn't decide if he felt sorrier for them or for Ash. His brother was about as shy as they come, he rarely spoke to anyone but him, Hailey and Alex. He barely talked to their parents even. The point is that there was no way that Ash was going to be able to tell them that he wasn't interested. Not in girls anyway. Ash raised his head slightly and saw Max staring with a small grin on his face. Ash gave his brother his pleading puppy face and the girls swooned. Max nodded, walking over to the small crowd and grabbed Ash's arm, dragging him away. "Hey, we were talking with him!" one of the girls yelled after Max. Max kept dragging his brother but threw a glance back at the girls. "Sorry ladies, unless you puncture those airbags in the front, this guy's not swinging by to give you flowers anytime soon" he yelled, and Ash's face must have grown three shades redder. They exited just as the gasps of shock echoed in the gymnastics hall. Ash glared at him. "Was there no better way to put it!?" he said. Max laughed and let go of his arm. He lightly slapped Ash's cheek repeatedly and grinned. "Forget about them, we have a revenge plan to come up with, remember?" Max said and began the walk to the school's parking garage. Ash sighed and quietly followed behind his brother to their motorcycles. She was running frantically through the dark forest, holding the baby close to her chest. A pack of wolves howled in the distance. She could hear her own heartbeat in her ears and she could taste iron and blood in her mouth. She made the mistake of looking behind her and didn't see the vine in the ground in front of her. Her foot got caught in the vine and she fell down hard. With a swift motion in the air she managed to fall on her back instead of her front, saving the baby. The wolves howled again. They were close. Really close. She tried to get back up and run but something was wrong with her foot. The dark clouds in the sky rumbled as if they were mocking her futile attempts to escape. The wolves had found her. She crawled backwards until her back hit a huge rock. They were closing in on her. This was it, she was going to die. The biggest wolf suddenly growled at the pack and the wolves whimpered and backed off. All but the big wolf who was getting closer to her. The baby was crying. The big wolf was snarled in her face, his sharp teeth exposed. She gulped and her grip around the baby tightened and the action made the wolf stop snarling. The wolf's grey fur suddenly turned white as a third eye opened up on his forehead. She knew that this wasn't normal but something about the wolf's purple eyes made her feel...safe. The third eye blinked and the wolf bent his head down to the baby. The baby wasn't crying anymore and was instead smiling lovingly at the wolf. The wolf bent his head lower and the baby stroked its head, patting it. The pack had surrounded them in a circle and howled. The baby smiled and crawled out from her grip, climbing up to the wolf's back. The pack all turned and growled viciously at her. She reached her arm out to try and grab the baby from the wolf's back. The big wolf growled louder than all of the wolves combined and bite her outstretched arm off. The baby laughed hysterically. She gripped her arm but before she could even register the pain, the big wolf attacked again, ripping her head off her body. Alex woke up in cold sweat. She wasn't imagining it. Reaching within her she finally found Kainian, laughing hysterically. "Where the f**k have you been!?" she thought, her blood boiling. Kainian didn't respond but kept laughing. "You f*****g piece of s**t, I thought the deal was being broken or something!" she thought. 'Oh, rest assured you won't be getting rid of me that easily, little one' Kainian said. Alex took a deep breath. "Where.Were.you." she thought firmly. Kainian giggled menacingly and grinned. 'I had to teach a little parasite a lesson. Oh, and you would do well in not insult me further, I don't want to have to teach you a lesson too, little one' Kainian said. Alex gulped and shook her head. She glanced at the clock and saw that it was already 7 am. Gavriel had regained his normal skin color again. His silent grunting made Alex fall out of the small bed when she tried to get up. Getting her butt off the floor, she grabbed Gavriel's hand. "Gav?" she said hesitantly. He opened his eyes slowly and frowned. "Sis?" he said confused. Alex practically squealed as she kissed his cheeks and nose repeatedly. Gavriel laughed. "Whoa! Here I thought you had forgotten about me, whoa okay okay, sis calm down geez" he said laughingly but made no attempts to stop her. Alex couldn't describe how happy she was to hear his voice. She gave her brother a heartfelt hug before pushing the nurse call button. The nurse from last night walked in hurriedly and smiled when he saw that Gavriel was awake. "Good morning Gavriel. You gave us a real scare last night buddy" he said and checked the IV bag. Gavriel saw the small bed in the corner of the room and looked at Alex. "That much of a scare huh...sorry sis" he said and smiled apologetically. Alex slapped his arm lightly. "Not like you decided to be unconscious you goof. Besides, those beds are more comfortable than one might think" she said and the nurse laughed slightly at that. "I'm gonna need a few more blood samples from you Gavriel. I am glad that you're awake now but we still need to figure out what happened to you last night" he said. Gavriel nodded and the nurse went away for a while before returning with a tray with a tube shaker, tubes, extraction needle and more. Gavriel gulped and looked away. Alex snorted. "Okay, your fear of needle's are going to ruin your cool guy act" she said. The nurse cleaned the hollow of Gavriel's arm with alcohol. Gavriel kept his gaze locked with Alex's and chuckled. "Who said it's an act, sis? Besides, you visiting your brother in the hospital is ruining your whole cold-hearted b***h act" he said. Alex grinned at him. "All done" the nurse said. Gavriel flipped his head and his eyes widened when he saw the patch on his arm. "This cold-hearted b***h just successfully kept you distracted. You're welcome, wuss" Alex said and flicked his nose. The nurse collected the test tubes and chuckled lightly. "It warms to see how close you two are" he said and left before any of them had time to respond. Gavriel and Alex looked at each other for a moment before they simultaneously laughed. "You can't talk me out of it Gav, I've made up my mind" Alex said. Gavriel sighed. "Alex, you're not staying here until tomorrow, sis. You should go home, get some rest, eat something that doesn't look like shaky roadkill and take a proper shower" he said. Alex shook her head and Gavriel grunted. "I'll do all those things tomorrow, after I've made sure that you really are okay. So shut up and eat your roadkill" she said and brought the food tray closer to him. She went to lay on the visitor's bed, resting her head in her hands and watching Gavriel as he finally began eating. 'HAHAHA, when he comes back in you, little one, are going to put those excellent flirting skills in action again' Kainian said. "Not too difficult seeing as he's pretty cute. Do we have to kill him? Can't you pick someone else?" Alex thought. 'But it'll be fun! sun, run gun, young, little, little, OH! Don't you want to see him naked, little one?' Kainian said. Alex blushed brightly and turned her back to her brother. "What the f**k are you talking about!? We don't have to undress him to kill him!" she thought. Kainian laughed. 'I am fully aware of that, little one. I was making a joke. Moreover, from what I've seen of your body, pursuing him to come over to your place would be easier to do if you were naked' Kainian said and giggled hysterically. Alex felt like dying. "You...you're a boy, aren't you?" she thought. Kainian grinned. "Didn't you know that already, little one?" Kainian said. Alex thought about the past two years with Kainian. How many times had it- HE seen her naked!? Alex covered her face. Oh god, please kill me she thought. Gavriel glanced at Alex and shrugged. Hmm, guess she's taking a nap he thought and went back to eating the bad looking, but tasty hospital food, not knowing that his sister had her back to him to cover her now tomato-red face.
