Chapter 5 Caught I

The next day, 3 men were seated under the shade in the garden of the same bungalow Evie and her friend Betty robbed. One was Mr Malloy, the head of the police force, the other was the security guard who was on duty the night of the robbery. Then the last was Mr Rogers, the owner of the bungalow and he was a renowned architect.

"You may begin by telling us what exactly happened last night" Mr Malloy said to the security man.

"Start speaking you useless guard!" Mr Rogers yelled at the security man. His patience was on a thin line as the guard he had hired to watch his house during the time of his travels became so incompetent.

"Uh ...um" he tried to find the right words.

"Relax Mr, just tell us what you witnessed yesterday, no pressure " Malloy said coolly.

"Okay " the security guard gulped nervously, " I was at my usual post when a girl with a mask approached me and started conversing with me. I was about to get hold of her when someone tackled me from behind. After that I didn't know what happened next as I was unconscious ", he explained.

"Goddamit" Mr Rogers cursed. "So there were 2 of them?" he asked angrily.

"Please relax sir" Mr Malloy said in a calm voice "What did the girl converse with you about?" Mr Malloy asked the guard further.

"Nothing important sir, it was just a ploy to deviate my attention ".

"Tell me what the girl conversed with you about", Malloy ordered him.

The security guard gulped again" uh.. she said she was the highest ranking criminal in the whole of USA then she asked if I wanted an autograph from her..." the guard trailed

"Anything else?" Malloy asked.

"She also told me to tell you hi before someone tackled me from behind ". He ducked his head low after the explanation.

"Could someone tell me what's going on here", Rogers demanded.

"Sir, it seems the person who robbed your house is no ordinary criminal, she's the one popularly known as 'the witch'". Malloy explained

"So you're saying a top notch criminal robbed my house yesterday without taking any valuables?" he asked and Malloy nodded.

"The girl's extremely smart but we'll catch her in due time ".Malloy stood up from his chair". For the now please double check to make sure nothing of importance gets stolen. "

Rogers nodded and shook his hands,"I'll take my leave ", Malloy left the garden.

Next day at Jw Marriott hotel ....

Evie and Betty were in a luxurious suite. They had lodged at the hotel the night after stealing the blueprint from Mr Rogers' house.

They swam at the grand pool where there was a pool party, played at the golf course , went to the spa joint and they did other fun activities.

Betty squinted her eyes and yawned softly, she turned and saw Evie was no longer on the bed but on the large white couch, she was sipping her brandy while studying the blueprint intensely.

"I didn't know we were having brandy instead of early morning tea", Betty said, as she made herself more comfortable on the couch, right next to Evie.

"Hmm" Evie hummed and smiled at her before returning her attention to the blueprint in front of her.

"You've been studying that thing for a while now, mind if you take a break?"

Evie sighed and placed the blueprint on the table next to her.

"Thanks" Betty muttered " Now explain."

"The blue print is about the house that's going to be robbed soon". Evie explained

"Okay" Betty nodded. " I should really get a mask like yours if we're going to rob that mansion or villa thing."

"Betty" Evie called

"What?"

"You're not coming with me, I wouldn't be able to bear it if something bad happens to you Betty. No one has ever robbed that mansion successfully, so even if I am caught, i can always protect myself with my powers". Evie said to her.

"No, I am not letting you do this alone", Betty protested. " You robbed the museum alone, but I am not letting you do this alone, Evie."

"Don't be naive Betty, don't worry, I got you."

Betty rolled her eyes, "If you say so, then" Betty said nonchalantly .

After 3 hours, Betty escorted Evie out of the hotel,

"You sure about this? You really want to play solo?" Betty asked once they reached outside the hotel.

"Yeah" Evie nodded " I paid for another night so you can stay, then leave in the morning". Evie said

"Cool, be careful, okay" Betty pecked her before she got into the car and zoomed off.
