Chapter 8: The Discovery

443 Words
Mia sat in her apartment, staring at her phone as it buzzed with messages from Ethan. She had been avoiding him for days, unsure of how to face him after what had happened between them. As she picked up her phone to read his messages, she felt a sense of guilt wash over her. She knew she needed to talk to him and clear the air, but she didn't know how. Just then, her phone rang. It was Ethan. Mia took a deep breath before answering. "Hey, Ethan." "Mia, thank god you answered," Ethan said, his voice tense. "Listen, something's happened. I need your help." Mia felt a knot form in her stomach. "What is it?" "It's Marissa," Ethan said, his voice breaking. "She's disappeared." Mia felt her heart drop. Marissa was one of her closest friends on set, and she couldn't imagine what could have happened to her. "What do you mean she's disappeared?" Mia asked, trying to keep her voice steady. "I don't know," Ethan said, his voice shaking. "I went to her apartment this morning to surprise her with breakfast, but she wasn't there. Her phone goes straight to voicemail, and no one's seen or heard from her since yesterday." Mia felt a sense of dread wash over her. "Have you called the police?" "Yes, I have," Ethan said. "But I need your help too. You know Marissa better than anyone. You know where she likes to go, who she likes to hang out with. Please, Mia, help me find her." Mia felt torn. She wanted to help Ethan and find Marissa, but she also knew that getting involved could be dangerous. She didn't want to put herself or anyone else in harm's way. "I'll see what I can do," Mia said finally. "But I can't promise anything." "Thank you," Ethan said, his voice filled with relief. "I knew I could count on you." As Mia hung up the phone, she knew she had to act fast. She quickly called her contacts on set, trying to gather any information she could about Marissa's whereabouts. But as she dug deeper, she realized that something was off. There were rumors on set about Marissa being involved with some shady characters, and Mia couldn't help but wonder if her disappearance was connected to that. Mia's mind raced as she tried to piece together the clues. She knew she had to find Marissa before it was too late, but she also knew that the danger was real. As she gathered her things and headed out the door, she couldn't shake the feeling that something big was about to happen. Something that would change everything.
