Chapter 1
“Just sign it, then I’ll pay the bill of your father’s hospitalization right away.” Stephan said in a gentle tone that Susanna got so familiar with but now felt nothing but meanness. This was not what she had ever desired or expected. “I didn’t mean to do it. I was just……” “Save the nonsense, we’re not that close to talk further. As long as you sign it, it’s quite fair enough…” when saying these words, Stephan even didn’t take a glance at her. Susanna didn’t say anything but looked down at Stephan in silence, hiding her trembling hands in her back. Why are they ending like this? “As long as you agree to divorce, you don’t have to worry about the cost of the hospitalization.” Sitting on the sofa and looking into Susanna’s eyes, Stephan finally said it out. Yes, they’re a couple, but now he is asking for a divorce. “Stephan, is this really what you want?” Susanna asked, calm and gentle as always. Stephan paused like one in a trap. Susanna continued to stare at his eyes, unwilling to look away and trying to figure out what she had desired to ask so many times. “She has come back, right?” When saying this, Susanna could feel the trembling in hands had spread to the whole of her body. She sucked in her bottom lip, to try to calm herself down. Stephan didn’t ask, but his silence had answered her question. Susanna couldn’t help breaking into laughter. “It looks good. At least you got what you want. You married me to fool her, and now she came back and you still love her, you two are the perfect couple, aren’t you?” Hearing this, Stephan looked down and refused to look at Susanna. “It’s alright, I say it out it’s not because I’m not accepting it.” Susanna smiled and kneeled down onto the ground. On the table was the contracted claiming that she could get a payment as long as she signs on it. Susanna picked up the pen lying on the table. Browsing the pages full of articles that clarified the duties and rights of Party A and Party B, and now she was the Party B. “Party B could get 10,000,000dollars after the divorce.” Susanna repeated for twice, on the opposite of her was Stephan looking out of the window. Susanna laughed slightly, “You’re decent as always.” She loved him for his decentness but now got hurt for the same reason. “Nobody could affect your mood, namely nobody could break your poker face, right?” Susanna stopped the looking and signed her name stroke by stroke. Time seemed to be frozen, Susanna didn’t know how long has past before she realized the contract turned to be so remarkable with her name. She had never thought she would sign on the divorce contract on time and in such a mood. She didn’t expect the divorce would come on time. Just like she didn’t know why his puppy love could turn around. Just like she didn’t expect she would fall into love with him. Life always goes on as unexpected…… Peeked at her signature, Stephan stood up immediately and picked up the contract for divorce. “I’ve signed on it, I won’t go back on my word.” Susanna took the last glance at him and said word by word. “That would be nice.” Stephan checked on the contract and didn’t look back at Susanna. “In fact, I’ve paid the bill and give them more for the continuous treatment. As long as your father is in this hospital, it will be free.” Stephan quitted the checking and went to the door without any hesitation. “One last thing, Grace did come back, and please don’t bother her in any means.” Stephan seemed to be in a worry log, he finally couldn’t hold it back but talk frankly. “You always think she is innocent and I’m the mean one that I would hurt her.” Susanna grinned sardonically. “Stop it, I hate you smile like this.” Stephan yelled out as if she had seen him through. Susanna burst into laughter and couldn’t stop. “My dear sir, you have no right to force me to do anything or stop me from doing anything. We’re nobody to each other, please don’t ever try to make me do anything for you.” Stephan wanted to say something but eventually failed. “It’s okay, then……” Stephan halted and continued, “good luck to your dad.” After saying that, Stephan left and what ahead of Susanna was the long and empty corridor of the hospital. “Hello, are you Susanna?” Susanna didn’t know how much time had passed by, a gentle voice of a nurse waked her up. Susanna looked at the innocent and worrying eyes of the nurse, Susanna forced herself to answer with a smile, “Yes, I’m Susanna, what’s the problem?” The girl was round 18 years old, just like her 10 years ago, innocent and shy as a rabbit. She stared at her with worries full of her eyes, “Susanna, I have bad news to tell you.” Susanna took a step back, a kind of instinct was stopping her from asking anything. However, bad luck won’t leave even though you try means to ignore or avoid it. “Susanna, I’m sorry that……” Therefore, on Christmas Eve, Susanna lost who she loved the most and who she loved the best. Susanna saw nothing this day but wet building and scenes. It was at that night that she had dewatered her eyes. Although she didn’t receive any love or care from her father, he was the only one that she could care in this big big world. She still remembered at that night, he promised to her that, “don’t worry about your father, he would be good as long as you’re fine.” He tried to comfort her for her father’s leaving without saying any words. “Stephan, will you leave without telling me?” She inquired him by looking up, he was a man a head taller than her that she always had to look up with quite a weird gesture. Stephan pated on her head with a gentle smile, “Don’t worry, if I leave, I will leave in a clean and clear way.” Yes, he had kept his promise as said.
