Chapter 19
(Jehovah’s Valley, Oregon, Wednesday, October 1, 2013)
IN THE PENITENT'S CABIN, Janet curled in a corner, her arms wrapped around herself. The memories that she had shoved away were flooding back, and she cried. Cried for the innocent young girl who was going to have her life shredded, her trust in her father and her community destroyed. For two decades she had tamped down those memories. Being back in the Valley, back in this damned cabin, brought down the walls.
Two decades ago she had fought, screamed and argued with her father. He ignored her as he spoke the vows that bound her to John in his eyes. John held her arm tightly, pulling her close to him so she couldn't pull free.
