Heather's comment caught some of their former classmate's attention while Nicholas stood still, confused. He heard them making fun of him in the background, but Nicholas made sure his clothes were clean before attending.
He was about to reason with Heather, but John Bennet suddenly pulled him away.
He remembered that he and John had the best relationship in high school. They often fought and skipped classes together. Nicholas expected that John wouldn't talk to him like the rest of the batch, but the latter proved him wrong.
John pulled Nicholas to a corner and shook his head while pointing at Heather. "Dude, a woman like Heather isn't on our level. Sitting next to her would only bring shame to ourselves." Nicholas just laughed and nudged John's shoulder.
They were busy catching up when Heather suddenly stood up and picked up a microphone. She was tipsy after having quite a few drinks.
She stood at the center and swayed her hips sexily while singing. Most of the boys in their batch intently focused their gazes on her. On the other hand, Nicholas just admired Heather's beauty in silence.
When Heather finished her little show, the boys rushed to offer her a ride home. They all went outside of the club to see Heather off. She got inside a Porsche and never looked back at them.
"Damn, she's so beautiful," John mumbled beside Nicholas. "Dude, now I understand why you wanted to sit beside her. If I could taste her for one night, I'd be willing to give up ten years of my life."
Nicholas sneered and shook his head at John's silliness. 'So, Heather is signing a contract with Zion tomorrow? Great. I'll be the new CEO tomorrow.' Nicholas smirked, watching the car disappear into the darkness.
Suddenly, his phone rang. All of his batchmates laughed after hearing his ringtone. "Bro, what year is it already? You're still using the oldest phone version?" But Nicholas didn't mind them.
After checking the caller ID, Nicholas quickly answered it. Yet, before he could even speak, his mother-in-law shouted at him. "Nicholas! Have you forgotten that today is the annual meeting? Must the whole family wait for you?! Get your a*s right here!"
's**t!' Nicholas cussed in his mind; he forgot about the annual meeting.
Without wasting a second, he drove away on his scooter in front of his whole batch. And even from afar, he could still hear his former classmates mocking him.
After a few minutes of driving, Nicholas finally arrived. A land rover was parked in front of their house with a gorgeous woman in an evening gown standing beside it, checking her phone impatiently.
Nicholas approached her with a smile, panting heavily. He noticed that Georgina was wearing his gift, the last pair of Crystal Love, and felt delighted that his wife liked it and couldn't wait to put them on.
Georgina glanced at Nicholas indifferently. "Don't embarrass me tonight. Less talk, fewer mistakes. Got it?"
Nicholas could only respond with a silent "Oh." He rode home at full speed only to be scolded.
"Don't you have a suit? What is this rubbish?" His mother-in-law commented. Esther was wearing a simple yet elegant blouse paired with a hip skirt.
Nicholas responded with just shrugged.
Seeing his unbothered reaction, Esther got pissed. "Are you deaf or dumb? Look at your clothes! I can't believe I let you marry my daughter. You're bad luck in our lives!"
Georgina started the engine as soon as Nicholas got in the car. "Mom, don't be angry. It's fine," Georgina tried calming her mother.
"How can I not?" Esther pointed at Nicholas and said, "Do you remember what I told you? After tonight's meeting, go to the Civil Affairs Bureau, finalize your divorce certificate, and leave my house! Do you understand?!" But Nicholas just sat there in silence, unable to say a word.
Broxton State, Villa La Belle.
People flooded the party this year. The parking space had more than a hundred luxury cars parked in line. The hall was packed with people, holding wine glasses and chatting with each other.
The moment they entered the hall, a lot of them greeted Georgina. And as usual, no one paid Nicholas attention, which he didn't mind. After all, he came to the gathering not to be the center of attention but to enjoy and eat food.
However, at every family gathering, there were always people who liked trouble, such as Ryan Clark.
That man seemed to bear a grudge against Nicholas. Whenever they meet, Ryan would always find a chance to insult and ridicule him in front of others.
"Well, well, if it isn't Nicholas? My cousin's good husband," Ryan shouted on purpose as he walked toward them.
