"Sir Nicholas, please help the Godfrey family. We are in desperate need of funds and your support!"
He couldn't understand why the family had reached out to him after all this time with such a ridiculous request. The day they kicked him out three years ago was still vivid in his memories. He had nothing then and only had twenty dollars in his pocket now. So, why were they coming to him for help?
Before he could c***k the mystery, another message from the same number popped up.
"Sir Nicholas, I beg you. Help the family. The oil shares you bought three years ago have now multiplied many times. Please, without your support, the family will be ruined......"
'What? Seriously? Crap!'
Nicholas sprung to his feet and dashed up to the bedroom. He dug through the depth of his closet and pulled out the Amethyst Bank black card, which he hadn't used all these years. He couldn't bring himself to throw it away, not only because of attachment but also because only a few could possess a black card. Plus, owning one symbolized status, and each card had a designated agent to manage the account.
Nicholas quickly dialed customer service. His face was pale yet hopeful as he waited for the line to connect.
"Hello, Mr. Godfrey. How may I assist you?" a sweet female voice greeted.
"Quickly, quickly check my card balance for me," he stuttered.
"Sure, please wait a moment." The woman replied.
After a few seconds, she said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Godfrey. Your account balance was so substantial that we couldn't disclose it over the phone. Please, visit our bank's nearest branch and proceed to the VIP window with your card and ID to—"
Nicholas hung up the phone and laughed before the agent could tell him more.
"Substantial account balance?"
This hit Nicholas like a bolt of lightning. He couldn't believe his luck. The very investment that had caused him so much trouble and resulted in his expulsion from the family returned as his golden ticket to financial success!
Nicholas looked at his card with eyes sparkling with excitement. Who wouldn't be excited to know how much money they have in their account after knowing all that?
Meanwhile, in the living room, Blaire held her stomach while laughing out loud.
"What the heck, Gina? Did I just hear Nicholas calling to check his bank account? What's he counting, cents?"
Georgina chuckled, "I give him two hundred dollars daily for pocket money, so he must have saved quite a bit in three years."
"Really? It's like you've been raising a dog!"
Blaire's words made them laugh even harder, and in the middle of all that, Nicholas came running over with an intense look.
He stood before his wife and said, "You said the company is short of five million. Maybe I can find a solution for you?"
Blaire laughed even louder and mocked, "Are you for real? Do you have a pea for your brain, Nicholas? You think you can cough up five million dollars out of thin air with the two hundred dollars given to you every day?" She laughed again and added, "I'll tell you what. I'll call you boss if you can fork out five million within a week!"
"Really?" Nicholas revealed a naive smile, "Then remember what you said."
At this point, Georgina had enough.
'Has he lost his mind?'
Just looking at his poor a*s made her blood boil.
"Get lost, don't be an eyesore here!"
Georgina impatiently waved her hand, and Nicholas quietly went back to the laundry room.
That night, Nicholas was so excited that he couldn't sleep. He tossed and turned until the early morning hours, but his mind couldn't be still, and he eventually doubted if the sudden good news was real.
'No, I'll go to the bank and check it myself!' He shook his head and forced himself to sleep.
Barely even into his dream, Nicholas heard the distant voice of his mother-in-law, Esther calling him.
"Nicholas, get up and drive my daughter to work."
Nicholas was already getting comfy with his pillow and thought he was dreaming. So he ignored the request and snoozed over in heavenly peace. However, the door suddenly busted open, and Esther walked in and furiously kicked him.
"Are you deaf or dumb? I told you to drive Georgina to work. Can't you hear me?" Esther said coldly.
In a daze, Nicholas got up from the floor and looked at Esther, utterly confused. After three years of marriage, he never went out with Georgina because she was too ashamed of him. Now Esther wanted him to send her to work?
At that moment, Georgina approached them, dressed in corporate attire, and impatiently stomped her foot, "Hurry up! Were you deaf or just refusing to drive me?"
"Of course, I'll do it!" Nicholas nodded profusely. He quickly changed his clothes, hopped on his scooter, and drove Georgina to her company.
