Welcome To My Life
For the most part I’m going to try to keep this brief. This is just the real basics and I will likely elaborate more as the days go on. I won’t be using full names etc where I can so in theory there’s no way for people to know where I actually live or the people I talk about to keep everyone safe.
So I go by Silver Magpie for the most part. I chose this moniker for simple reasons, I like shiny things and I like flying things, particularly magpies themselves as they are both shiny and they fly. I Live with my boyfriend David, and his mum. We also have three cats, Ramsey, Twilight, and Mary. I’m sure these three will feature a lot. I work in the restaurant of a garden centre mostly on the deli counter, but also as a waitress.
I’m a big nerd. I play a lot of video games, have most consoles as well as a PC and I also play Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). I have a lot of things I want to do with my free time as I have a fair few hobbies I like to dabble in. Gaming is probably the biggest but I’m also a fan of both Magic the Gathering and Warhammer, both fantasy and 40K. I’m more of a painter than a player with Warhammer as I feel I’m good at it and enjoy the results of my work on the detailed models that Games Workshop produce. In terms of games I like roleplaying and/or strategy games. At the moment my favourites are The Elder Scrolls Online, and Conan Exiles. I’m also a big fan of anything Star Wars as I’ve loved the sci-fi genre since I was small.
My school career has been full, completing GCSEs, A-levels, and also university, doing a games art course, but I've not been able to get a job in the field and have more or less given up looking.
My friend group which, as a warning, I will no doubt be complaining about a lot, consists of people I have met over the years that have come together mostly due to D&D. These people I will name here, though won't talk too much about. Just to trying to keep things simple:
Snipe I knew first of all my friends, I met him in secondary school though didn’t like him all that much to start with. His family is quite well off from what I know and he would always call in sick to school whenever any brand new video game came out. Coincidence? Yeah, probably not. Either way we got to know each other more when we joined our first D&D game which happened to be an after school club. He turned out to be a bit like me in that he was quiet and shy though when he does speak he always has some interesting ideas. In our D&D games he’s the min/maxer, always trying to get the most out of his class in combat and isn’t big on the roleplaying part, though he is getting better slowly. Lastly Snipe is a very good video gamer. Out of all of my friends who I have played multiplayer with, baring David, he is who I have the most fun with.
Lib I met around the same time as Snipe. In fact he’s my Ex-boyfriend. We were together for about 7 years but parted ways when we both realised we were more just housemates rather than partners. For the most part I think he’s a t**t who I would really rather not interact with, but the rest like him well enough so I tolerate him to keep the peace. He tends to live a little in his own world and often seems to think he knows things that he really doesn't, but over all he is an interesting person to talk to if nothing else.
Pyro I met through Lib, he was part of Lib’s friend group at school which I found myself becoming a part of as we started going out. Pyro is probably my favourite of all my friends and he has grown up the most. From the little brat he was at school he’s matured into a really nice guy who seems to honestly want to keep us all together. He’s a big Warhammer 40k fan and that’s how we really became friends. Lib and I got into Warhammer and started going to a local tabletop gaming club where I found Pyro and I were fairly evenly matched so I used to try to play against Pyro as I actually had a chance of winning. These days he’s fast becoming one of our best roleplayers for D&D and he’s always up for playing video games with us when there are multiplayer games going.
Xander I met in university. I probably interact with him the least, especially lately but originally he was part of the D&D society that I joined from my first year. He wasn’t in the games I was, however he was in those that Lib joined and I often sat in on. He’s a fun guy to talk to and very much loves his Warhammer 40k as well as being a big anime fan. If I ever have a question about either of these things it’s Xander I go to.
Sil I also met in the uni society, he was in a few of the games I was a part of as he liked a lot of similar things to me. Personally I think he had a crush on me through university, but I’ve only ever seen him as a friend. He used to be our resident game master (GM), the one who ran all the games and never got to play, that’s changed recently, but he’s a big part of why I love D&D so much.
Ghoul I met in the Pokemon society at university then invited him to join in with the D&D society. He’s also a big Warhammer fan, both 40k and fantasy and like me, has a big love of painting the models. He is also my only friend who is into Magic the Gathering as much as I am and we keep trying to meet up for a few games but distance is causing problems in that regard. He’s a great guy to talk to and though is distant at the moment due to his current situation, I hope will soon become more active as things begin to calm down a bit for him.
Wolf is Lib's current girlfriend. She’s a great girl and Lib invited her to join the group shortly before they got together. She’s probably the best GM we’ve had so far as she creates some really fun and engaging content, there's never a dull moment in her games and she’s good at balancing both combat, exploration and roleplay parts of her games. She is a fun person to talk to, especially about Lib. He still has a lot of the issues I had with him, but she seems to manage them better and it’s quite fun to chat with her about him and have a laugh over it. I have had and likely will have a few issues with her attitude sometimes but over all she’s a good person.
Last but definitely not least is David. He’s perhaps not the best looking guy, but he treats me right and has a gentle spirit. Truly David is a large part of the reason I left Lib because he made me realise how little Lib and I did together. When you think to yourself that a good friend seems to care more about you than your boyfriend, you know there are issues. Originally I met David online in the MMO Star Wars the Old Republic. Honestly I liked him then, but being in a relationship at the time I don’t think I realised it. I always looked up to him as he was one of the best and kindest players in my guild and when he came all the way over to see me in real life for my birthday because I was going to be on my own and had a broken leg, we quickly became very good friends. The only real problem I have with him is our living situation. He is a carer for his mum and has been since he was 10. At this point he does little more than take food and drink to her and we need to move out but such a change is very scary for him. But I’m working on it. COVID-19 has put a lot of my plans on hold but that’s just the way of the world at the moment hopefully things will begin moving soon.
And that’s everything that I think is important about me that needs stating before I start. If you ever have a question please feel free to drop me a message and I will attempt to answer it with my next post. I hope you enjoy reading about my life but as the title of the book suggests it’s not going to me the most interesting story ever, so don’t worry if you get bored and put it away ^^’
