Well today was fun, in the sarcastic sense and felt rather long.
After getting ready for work and heading out the door I found it once again raining. It wasn't heavy just that light almost mist like rain but it was still annoying. I know everyone jokes about it always raining in Britain but this is getting a little silly. Thankfully as it was only a light drizzle the roads weren't too bad, but still wet enough for me to be careful. The journey was fine with very few others on the roads, this time I was the one behind them and I made sure to keep a good distance due to the weather.
I walked into the office to sign in and my supervisor got a call from her manager. There was an email sent out yesterday that we all had to park further back. I didn't worry because I thought I was in the right place normally anyway, but apparently not. I had to dash back out and move my bike. Before lock-down I used to park it inside the gates, but coming back they've built a new mobile building where I used to park to increase the staff room space. As there's so much less room there I've been staying out in the car-park with everyone else but today they've decided that's not safe enough, or more likely that my little bike (compared to a car) takes up one whole parking space when that space could be used for a customer. So back behind the gates I go. I found a spot but it's a squeeze so I'm going to have to keep an eye on it. I moved the bike with no kit on, which felt really odd, so had much more manoeuvrability getting off in the space. When I'm wearing my full kit it will likely be much harder, but we'll see tomorrow, maybe if I park as far over as I can it'll be ok.
Back actually in work the morning went kind of slow and kind of quick. I was once again training another person to be on the deli counter, she was ok but very slow. I think if we were back before lock-down she'd be fine but with only one of us being on as a general rule she's going to struggle. Luckily it was fairly quiet, at least for us, through the morning and part of the afternoon too. I think the other sections were struggling a little more though as she was taken off to help run food to the customers. That was bad timing as that's when they started coming in for deli too. It went from really quiet one moment to really busy the next, where I was very much unable to keep up. Thankfully Liv was waitressing and once they'd caught up a bit she jumped on, to give me a hand. Between us, we quickly got through all the orders and it began to slow again so she left to go back to waitressing while I finished the last couple of orders.
Just as I was on the last one, one of my supervisors came over and sent me on break while putting my trainee in my place. I was hopeful that the order I had would be all she would need to do. I thought it was really unfair of them to get her to cover me on her own even if it was just 15 minutes, for a start she'd not even been on there to train properly for the whole day. But we did as told and when I came back she and another newbie to deli were struggling with a few orders that had come in while I was gone. Seems between them they were ok, but I definitely detected a bit of panic between them. I quickly got to helping finish the orders and a couple more that came in the meantime. There was a little confusion as to if we could close or not but the moment we got confirmation that we could my trainee was taken off again. This was frustrating as once again I wouldn't have the help to close. Like yesterday this pushed me back a little, but I realised it sooner and pushed to get it done. I cut a couple of corners as I knew I was on there again tomorrow and would make sure everything was done properly then.
Getting home was much the same as coming in. And I definitely had my glasses this time. Thankfully the pair I left yesterday were still where I left them and I made sure not to take my spares off so I wouldn't forget them. One pair on my face and one pair in my bag, safe and sound. As soon as I was home and in the door I made sure both pairs made it to their normal place on my computer desk. That was a little relief and weight of my shoulders.
Of course the next thing I did was load up Conan. Today I mostly gathered more resources to refine and added in the final few creating tables as well as building paths that let us more easily get down off the ridge I was building the castle on. I also did some decorating by using a table as a stage for the dancer I escorted up there and a whole load of candles to make the place sparkle. I also put some of the candles along the walk ways to help them be more obvious even though they're really not that bright. They may not really help that much but they are pretty. Building the walk ways gave me an idea of putting them everywhere like paths that link everything on the map together. It would help be a guide as I could put signs up saying where different routes lead to. It would be a big job, and not all that good an idea with the purge and things but was still a neat idea if I would ever get around to it.
A good half hour after our normal start time David pointed out that I normally had a D&D session on Sundays. I'd managed to get so involved with my game that I had completely forgotten about that. Luckily, in some ways, it turned out that it wasn't running anyway, too many people weren't able to make it today, and to be fair that included me this time. I had been thinking about not joining today anyway, I just didn't have the energy or patience to deal with the group of them.
Sil later joined me on Conan for all of 10 minutes and almost gave me a heart attack. Conan has an interesting way to reset your level up choices in that you have to make and drink a special potion. There are two sets of stats you can reset, attributes and feats. There are potions for these individually and both at the same time. Sil made the latter but I didn't realise that was a thing that existed. The former ones are much harder to make due to the resources they need coming from the highest level area of the map, the reset of both however is very simple to make needing only some flowers you can find in the starting zone. Sil proceeded to get his character drunk which mechanically means he started using random items from his inventory. So when he called out "I just took a reset potion because I'm drunk!" I freaked a little. After a quick Google and a lot of calming down it was ok until he also said he'd made more of them for the rest of us. I'm getting a little fed up with these guys wasting resources, especially as this time it really was a waste even if it was something we can easily get a hold of again. The potions have a decay timer of two minutes, i.e. if they are not used in that time they get destroyed and vanish. It's just lucky it wasn't the more specific ones. After that Sil left again. As far as I can tell making the potions and getting drunk was basically all he did.
Soon after I also logged off to eat with David and watch some batman. I do like a good bit of batman.
