Day With Mom

527 Words
The first night in the new house felt weird. I tossed and turned all night, felt like I didn't sleep at all. I eventually crawled out of bed to the sun starting to rise. I made a coffee, and made my way to the deck. The back yard was huge, looking a tree line as far as the beach. I could see where Dad was going to build a fire pit for my Mom, she loved sitting by the fire in the evening. I was lost in the quiet, I didn't hear my Mom come out "Morning honey" she said making me jump "Mom, I didn't hear you, you almost gave me a heart attack" I said placing a hand over my heart. Mom laughed and sat next to me on the swing. "Any plans today, besides hanging with your new friends?" she asked giving me a nudge in the arm. "No, why what do you have planned?" I asked. "Oh, nothing I thought we could do some shopping, and go out for lunch while Dad works on my fire pit" she said giving me a smile. "Yeah sure." I replied. I ate some toast with raspberry jam, then showered. I wore a yellow lacy sundress that went just above the knee, and zipped up the back I put on white sandals, brushed my hair to leave air dry, grabbed my purse and met my mother upstairs. She made Dad an omelette for breakfast, she placed his plate in the warmer he bought her for Christmas last year, and away we went. We spent the day going to a few places there wasn't really much in this small town, but did manage to get some new tops, shorts and floats for the pool. Mom found a few pictures she wanted for the hallway, and a nice key rack to hang up in the entry way. We went to a nice bistro place for lunch, I ordered strawberry banana smoothie with a garden salad, Mom just got water to go with her chicken ceasar wrap. "So, did you find one of the boys cute, or both?" mom asked taking a sip of her water "Mom" I said giving her a look. "What, there's nothing wrong with that" she replied. I shook my head. "You know I'm not ready, or even thinking of that right now" I said avoiding eye contact."I know baby, but they both seem very nice, well one is clearly more social then the other" she said. I looked at her "All I want right now, is a fresh start and if they want to be friends I'm okay with that" I said. "Good, because I want you to be happy." she replied. She grabbed my hand from across the table "We both do" she added. I gave her a smile and squeezed her hand. Mom was always looking out for me. I knew she wanted what was best. She was my idol, my best friend, my rock. I could talk to her about anything. "You ready to go?" she asked as we finished up our lunch "Yeah, I'm good" I said getting up from the table.
