CHAPTER 5 It was another rainy day outside when Claire opened the curtains the following morning. She peered outside across the lawn and down towards the forest that she could barely see. The rain wasn’t as heavy as it had been the day before, but it was misty. She got dressed in her comfortable clothes from the day before, pulled her makeshift lanyard over her head and left her room. She found herself sliding on the floor outside. Her sneakers were sliding downwards on a slope towards the hard floor in the snug below. The railing was still in the way, but she knew hitting it would be painful, and she had no confidence that the handrail would stop her fall. She hung onto the doorframe for dear life. She could only hope that the door would not shut of its own will and squash her fingers,
