Overseer II

1179 Words
Taking out his phone, Max decided to call Ken to consult. It didn’t take long before the call is picked up. “Hello, Ken?” “Hi, Air. Yes, this is Ken. What’s up?” “Ken, you should know that I am a new D-rank hero, and I don’t have much experience. So I want to ask, how much money do you think I can earn as a D-rank hero per month?” “Per month?” “Yes. I know it varies between high and low D-rank, but can you tell me the average?” “Well, it wasn’t a secret, but you could earn $30,000 to $50,000 on average. So why are you asking about it? I don’t think that you’re someone who would be swayed by the money.” “So it’s like this. I was tasked to hire a team member, but I didn’t know how much I could earn and how much I should pay for the team member.” “Oh, so it’s like that. I can tell you some information about it. As for sidekick, for D-rank heroes, I was paid $45,000 per month. As for Joey, as a runner, her pay is around $20,000 per month. Rika’s paycheck is actually around the same as mine as she is a genius overseer that is highly regarded by many people.” Max could understand Ken’s salary to be around the average of what a normal D-rank hero would get, but he is surprised to see how high the wage for an overseer is. He also learned that backup heroes are called sidekick and those who do miscellaneous tasks like Joey is called a runner. “It’s that expensive?” “Well, I didn’t know about others, but it might be because we’re in an agency, and they pay a lot more. So even if there are some differences, it would be around 20-30% at most. So anyway, what kind of teammate member are you looking for?” “I want to recruit an overseer. As you know, I kind of lacking in the intelligence department, so having an overseer helping me would be great.” “Max, I have to tell you this. If you’re looking for an overseer, aside from the salary, you need to provide other things.” “Eh, what other things?” “Firstly, a workstation or computer that is fast enough to keep up with the overseer speed. That is including the processing capabilities of the computer and the connection to the internet. You can say that is the overseer equipment and weapons. Without that, overseer effectiveness would be limited. It means that you need to set up an office or rent a room for the overseer to work with the computer. I didn’t say this to scare you, but the cost of an exemplary computer that fulfilled an overseer standard will cost you from $100,000 at least and $500,000 for the top tier one.” After hearing Ken blurts out the number, Max can already feel pain in his wallet. It cost so much to pay for the overseer monthly wage already, yet he now has to prepare for the computer and working space for the overseer. “Well, finding a good overseer and convince them to work with you itself is a pretty hard job since they have their pride. You’ve met Rika earlier, and you know that someone who becomes an overseer is brilliant and could even be a genius. But, as everyone said, a genius has their quirkiness. So they will evaluate you, and if they don’t think that you’re not worthy enough to have their help, they won’t join you.” When talking to Rika as they are having lunch, Max can already feel a headache on his head due to how fast she talks and how she always asks him questions, one after another, before even he managed to answer one of them. In the end, she looked at Max and called him stupid and slowpoke for not being able to keep up with her hyperspeed speech. “My big sis already gives me a list of potential candidates to persuade and recruit, but now after listening to your talk, I believe that I still have a long way to go before I could get a team member. I don’t think I’m ready.” “Having a team will be only a matter of time. Just do your best, Air. is there anything else that you want to ask?” “No, I think that’s all for today. Thank you for answering my questions, Ken. I appreciate it.” “Don’t mention it. You can call me anytime. I’ll be closing the call then. I have something to do. Bye, Air.” “Okay, bye.” Right now, Max feels regret as to why he hides his power and doesn’t take the United Heroes school. However, if he has friends that would work together with him, the salary might be negotiate-able, and he won’t have to think much. Even for the computer, they can slowly pay for it as Max earned more money. But there’s no medicine for regret, so he has to deal with what he has to face. Not to mention that if he entered the school, he might not have a big sister right now. So, each decision has its own pros and cons. Max looked at the list of the name again and read the files more detailedly. He is sorting out the people that he will contact first and tried to convince. Of course, he is sorting it out like an absolute beginner with the highest-ranked people at the top. As he doesn’t understand about the overseer, the higher ranked they are, the better. Just like heroes, the higher ranked they are, the stronger. After finished sorting out the list, Max does his calculation. “If I can earn $50,000 per month, I will be able to buy a computer after two months. Three months if I also use the earnings for my living expenses and six months if I also need to cut a portion of my earning to big sis. Well, I don’t think big sis will mind if I don’t pay her yet, and I can still hold on to use the living expenses given by big sis. So, at most, three months later, I am ready to recruit my first teammate, an overseer. I will have a room rent for the overseer, and I can use it as my official office. In the meantime, I should start contacting them and see if they are willing to join my team.”
