Max's new ride III

1186 Words
The moment Max rides his new motorcycle, the first thing that he noticed is how quiet it is. As the bike runs on an electric engine, it doesn’t let out any sound at all. There’s no friction or hiccup when the gear is changed. Not to mention he also realized how smooth it was when he is making turns. It was as if the bike itself is an extension of his body. Making sharp turns is extremely easy for him. If a professional rider needs to tilt their bike and body, Max could easily do that with a simple move, even at high speed. When he is first coming out from the pit stop, he is still in pedestrian mode. However, after completing a lap, he changed into the normal mode, and he can feel the adrenaline brought by the speed. Four hundred kilometers per hour isn’t slow at all, and when he reaches the straight part of the track, he immediately commanded the wind to negate the air resistance. At that moment, he finally realized how fast is 500 kilometers per hour. Max couldn’t even control his own speed when he used his ability to increase the motorcycle's speed. In the end, he needed to deactivate the speed boost from his ability and return to the original speed. After going around two more laps, Max finally finished enjoying the bike's speed as he returned back to the pit stop. Over there, Elliot is already waiting for him. “So, how’s the bike? Is there anything that feels uncomfortable? Turning speed, handling, acceleration, braking system?” “No, everything is perfect. If there’s one thing that I have to comment on, the helmet's glass is too dark. Can you make it lighter?” “Ah, I am afraid that if you want to make modifications on the helmet, you need to sacrifice a few things. After all, that helmet is designed to be bullet-proof. We can change the glass with normal ones, but then you will need to watch out for bullets then. As for collision resistance, it can withstand impact from a B-rank hero.” Hearing Elliot’s answer, Max decided that it is better to keep the bullet-proof function rather than for ease of driving. After all, there’s still collision radar and map on the bike interface that could help him with the viewing issue. If he is sniped from afar, no amount of ease of driving could save his life. “If that’s the case, then I’ll just keep the bullet-proof feature. After all, my life is more important than the driving glass issue.” “Do you really don’t need anything to be changed?” “Yes. I’m delighted with it.” “If that’s the case, you can actually bring it home right away. After all, we only need to bring it back with us if there’s some adjustment that you want to make. If there’s none, then feel free to take it away.” “Really? Thank you.” Max can’t hide his happiness as he hopped on the bike once more and headed home. When he arrived at his apartment, he is pretty confused about where he should park the bike. At that moment, a call comes in. Max is surprised since it wasn’t a call to his phone but a call coming to the motorcycle. He pressed answer on the bike’s interface, and then the call connected to his helmet. “This is me again, Elliot, Air hero. I am calling to tell you that the bike also has its own phone number. It can be used to make a connection with your support’s computer and be controlled remotely. Also, I am guessing that you are going to park the bike or make a stop somewhere. Don’t worry; the bike doesn’t have a sidestand or main stand. So you can just leave the bike as if as it has its own stabilizer and won’t fall down when parked. It also comes with an automatic lock that responded to your biometric signs and is near impossible to steal unless it was towed from the ground using a crane.” “Ah, thank you for calling and telling me these. You saved me there.” “Well, it is my responsibility to explain it to you in the first place. I should be saying sorry since I didn’t tell it earlier.” “Thank you, mister Elliot.” “Your welcome. I’m ending the call then.” After hearing Elliot's explanation, Max could now confidently parked his motorcycle, and he is amazed at how it can stand still without anything supporting it. He vaguely remembers Elliot saying about auto balancer or something, but it wasn’t important for him anyway. The new motorcycle immediately becomes an eye-catching sight for the passerby. Still, as Elliot said, it has an anti-theft feature with a biometric lock, so he doesn’t feel afraid to leave it by the roadside. Few days after that, Max used the motorcycle as his mean of transport, and it immensely helped him in doing missions. Either it was to arrive at the target location or to chase a villain that is running away. He finally realized why so many heroes commissioned their own vehicle and also looked pretty jealous, remembering Alexandra’s helicopter. After all, a flying vehicle and a roadrunner have a clear difference between them. Days passed by as Max feel that his life has returned to normal now. Until one day, he got a call from the United heroes association. “Hello, am I speaking with Air hero?” “Yes, that’s me.” “I’m calling from the association. I am here to inform you that you’re being invited to come to the United Heroes headquarters to attend a meeting.” “A meeting?” “Yes. It is regarding your qualification of rising up to C-rank.” “Eh? Is that true?” “Of course. I am not pulling a prank on anyone. To tell you all the details, can you come on Thursday at 11 a.m?” “Sure! I will definitely be there.” Max is quite surprised about this news. After all, he didn’t think that he will be promoted to C-rank one year after becoming a hero. He remembers that there are a few requirements before being promoted. Doing mission for contribution and the other part is achievements. That is also why Yuna risked her life to go chase Lindt and Vanya with him back in the days to earn enough achievements. Max, however, won’t think much about it for now. He will know about it when he visits the headquarters, so there is no need to speculate.
