Maximus didn't like waiting. Unlike his comrades, he did not have the virtue of patience and this was the last straw.
Jade and Nathaniel snuck through the thin pipes and into the castle courtyard. He couldn't figure out how they were going to sneak past the guards the were marching around just a moment ago. He would worry about it but his father told him to trust his comrades and that's what he was going to do.
But he didn't like having to wait and give them enough time to get clear of the courtyard. They weren't even the ones fighting. Maximus was only meant to rally the locals and bring them to the weapons. It was Fergus, Alaina, and Annabella that was going to cause the ruckus.
He was jealous of that.
