The end is only the beginning

Damien was the first to move. He wrapped his arms around Adrien. He was joined by Jacob, as they stood there; the Alpha and his two loyal Bettas. He held them tightly, tears silently rolling down his cheeks. They were his blood brothers. They took a step back, as he took Sienna’s hand and walked down towards his father. He was sitting at the edge of the pool. Adrien towered over him. His voice had even become deeper. He knelt before his father bowing his head in shame. Sienna stood beside him. He wasn’t just facing his father; he was facing all the people standing in the garden. On his knees, his hands hanging by his body. “I couldn’t begin to find the words to beg your forgiveness. I hurt the people I loved the most. I hurt innocent, pure souls who never asked for any of this…” Sienna put her arms on his shoulders, and Sol let out a whimper. Hilda walked over to them. “You couldn’t control it, Adrien. Sienna is your mate and being away from her had a horrible effect on you.”  Adrien and Sienna had already figured that out. “You are not just an Alpha. You are the Rougarou, and Sienna is a Wendigo,” she was speaking just to Sienna now. “You are now creating a new world, or actually you are recreating the old one we had all walked away from, in order to save our species from extinction.” Sienna held Adrien tightly. He buried his head in Sienna’s chest, the tears still silently rolling from his eyes. His mother ran to him, hugging him tightly. She was so glad to see him alive and well. He didn’t look haunted anymore. There were silent murmurs in the crowd. They could feel the shift, but not everybody agreed with the change. Especially Sol. She walked angrily out of the garden towards the house. Jacob wanted to chase her, but he stopped. He was falling in love with her, and her love for his Alpha was breaking his heart. Clarissa stood closer to Damien, their hands finding each other. The shift was strong, as though the world started turning the other way around on its axis. Adrien stood and wiped his tears. He stared at Sienna drawing power from her. “There are things to be discussed. We have turned our back on our true nature for too long. It has brought doom and extinction on us,” his voice was commanding and strong. His own father could feel the immense power dripping from every word. “This must stop. We all need to come together and find our true nature.” Some of the Alphas turned towards the house and a growl sounded deeply in his chest. “We belong outside in the moonlight, not in a mansion,” he raised his voice and they all turned to him. They sat around him in the garden, his fierce gaze on them. Damien and Jacob stood next to him, and Sienna sat beside him, stroking his arm. “Hilda, Gina, please join us,” she motioned at them. They hesitantly stepped closer and sat down. “The voice of the Shaman has been ignored for far too long, and we have all lost our way. Stumbling blind in the darkness,” Sienna said softly. “But now we can begin to find the light together.”  Adrien inhaled deeply. “The reason our numbers have dwindled so much, is because most werewolves don’t live in their pack. And a wolf alone can not survive.” Sienna looked at their response as she said, “and most werewolves have assimilated too much with humans. Trying to adopt their ways, instead of living our unique way of life.” Gina smiled. This was finally starting to make sense.  “We are children of the forest, but we do not roam it. We drive fancy cars, trying to accumulate more money and power, in the ways of the humans. We are their protectors, but we turned them into our Alphas, and followed them.” Adrien stopped. He could see that not all the Alphas were convinced. He expected this. Last night he woke up to find Blackhawk sitting on the edge of his bed. Sienna was awake and smiling at him, covering herself with the blanket. Blackhawk smiled. “Please dear boy, do not get up,” he chuckled. Adrien’s eyes grew wider. “Now that Sienna has marked you, you can also see the spirits.” He stood up and walked towards them. “I am afraid I bring you a tough decision to make together. Your union has started a change. Sienna is the strongest Wendigo of her kind. She can wake the collective memories in the mind of our kind, and begin the return to our old natural ways, before we turned our backs on our true nature. But this will be a long and hard battle. No change comes without crisis. We all grow from crisis, that is how we change. Can you walk such a long and painful road? That is the sacrifice you are asked to pay, in order to fulfill the prophecy. It is your choice, and your choice alone. You do not have to take on this role. You must choose it.” He stood silently smiling at Adrien. “You are a true Alpha my dear boy. How much you have already suffered,” He stroked his short hair. Adrien looked at Sienna. He knew the answer without even asking. “And I will suffer more grandfather, to be the true Rougarou Alpha.” His grandfather knew Adrien would never walk away. He closed his eyes, saddened for the pain he knew they would both face. The terrible sacrifices they would have to make. The war that would come to them. Some of the werewolves would not want this change. They would not go down without a fight. Especially the Lycans. They had acquired too much power in the human world and would never part with it. They were also the first to abandon protecting the humans, as they were the first to kill humans in the first world war. The road ahead was not clear. The outcomes were unknown.  Now Adrien was standing among the Alphas, holding Sienna’s hand. The Lycans never showed. They have been unreachable for decades. They were completely immersed in the human world. He could tell from their faces who was going to fight him. Who would join the fight with the Lycans, until they were all dead. But he could also see the faces of those who had hope. Who wanted to follow a beacon of light in the darkness, back to their true selves. They have always felt out of place, and now with Adrien and Sienna, they felt like they were coming home. “This is your time to make a choice for yourselves and for your pack,” he raised his voice. “And for the future Shamans of our kind,” Sienna finished.                                                                                                                         Damien stood closer to Clarissa, and he could feel his skin tingle with every touch. It was the same Clarissa, but something about her was different. He had never noticed how intoxicating her scent truly was. It was drawing him like a moth to a flame. He looked down at her, how she fit so perfectly in his arms. She looked up at him, feeling so safe and calm. She felt her senses awakening, as from a deep sleep. His eyes were changing color. A dash of amber twinkled in his chocolate brown eyes. What did this mean? Sienna stood next to Adrien; his enormous arm wrapped around her waist. He was even taller and broader now, but she still fit perfectly in his grasp. She lay her head on his chest. Her golden hair twirling in the breeze. She was still pale, but her skin seemed to shine in the moonlight. She was a true Luna. A Shaman, as all Lunas are supposed to be. They could see to the far border of the territories. The war was coming to them; to drink their blood and steal their land. This was their fate, to fight, together. This is what they had chosen. Adrien squeezed her tighter, kissing the top of her head. She always smelled like Vanilla and Honeysuckle, with a dash of Lavender. As strong as he was before he met her, he was weak without her. The mark on his shoulder twinkled in the moonlight and sent shivers through his body. As if feeling her mate, Sienna turned and smiled at him, pulling herself up to his neck, to kiss his mark. His body trembled, as his muscles tightened. They had a long and hard road ahead of them, but they were together, they could face anything. Lightning shot in the sky. “A storm is coming,” Sienna said, and Adrien nodded. “You are with me Sienna. I can endure any storm when you are with me, no matter how bad it gets.” Sienna smiled and rested her head against his massive chest, his scent making her feel warm and safe. They watched the storm build up in the distance, as the wind picked up. Adrien slipped her hand in his, as her scent made him yearn for her. “Baby, for now let’s just enjoy this quiet time and go home.”
